Our Lady of Lourdes is a title of the Virgin Mary. He is venerated under this title by the Roman Catholic Church as he originated in Lourdes, France. The first apparition is dated February 11, 1858, in which Bernadette Soupres (age 14) tells her mother that a "girl" spoke to her while gathering firewood in the Mazabiel cave. Similar apparitions of the sister and a friend "Lady" were reported on 18 occasions that year, leading up to the climactic revelation, in which she introduced herself.
On February 1, 1876, Pope Pius IX officially granted the canonization of Notre-Dame du Saint Rosaire. Marian devotion gradually increased as ecclesiastical inquiries permitted her apparitions. In later years, a large church was built at the site and it became a major site of religious pilgrimage.
