Leeds fan here. Tommy played in an era where every team had a few hard men . I used to go to Elland Road with my dad and couldn't wait for the Liverpool game to come round. Tommy was one of the best hard as nails but brilliant 👏 RIP to a great
Tommy Smith was from that band of Footballer who could dish it out as well as take it . Hard but fair , skillful as well . RIP Tommy , Shanks and Bob are waiting for you
A man who never took a backward step on the field a great warrior who gave his all fo 90 minutes today's lightweight namby pamby players would be crying for their mums after two minutes on the pitch with him! Rip Tommy
Heartbreaking to think he had to sell his medals to make ends meat especially with all the clowns playing today and getting ridiculous amounts of money for being drama queens
I can remember '77 when Smith scored in the final. There was so much scoring talent in that Liverpool side but smithy wasn't one of them. I can't remember him ever scoring another goal (though I'm sure he did) but he headed himself into the history books that night. Those were great nights. RIP Tommy Smith.
Met him once with my mum , mum not knowing much about football asked him are you important ? He replied madam I'm very important ! , loved watching him play Cyril Knowles was terrified of him !

@@MARKETMAN6789 It’s sad in a way how the Liverpool v Manchester United rivalry has become so spiteful. 71 when Manchester United were banned from playing at OT they played a home game v Arsenal at Anfield. That certainly would have been unthinkable even 10 years later. Clubs are very similar but very different as well. A lot of teams want to be be like Manchester United. I first come across Tommy Smith in 1970. and immediately, I knew he would win major honours with his beloved Liverpool, and even his mum told Shankly he will win a cup if you play him,
Known as a hard man, but had great talent beyond that The goal against BMG was the icing on the cake that day - I believe he missed the Final against Bruge because he had the misfortune to drop something upon his foot shortly before that day Great player and RIP
He was also a fierce critic and hater of ltalian football too.... in an interview he gave for LFCTV in 2008...l remember him talking about the 1965 european cup semi final 2nd leg between lnter milan and liverpool at the san siro that smith played in...From what l've read on this. lnter beat us and went through to the final 4-3 on agg. But if you were to look at the TV footage from that game...Two of the first goals scored by lnter should never have been given. And after the final whistle, tommy smith claimed he pushed and kicked and screamed at the referee when walking off the field, and towards the tunnel. But the referee did'nt finch one bit. And that convinced tommy smith that the referee in that game had been paid off...And sure enough years later. After an investergation by the sunday times newspapers . His claims was in fact proven right. And since the 1960s he said. Time and again smith said that ltalian football is and always has been fiddled....RlP
Ive always been an evertonian but had a huge liking for tommy smith, a local lad who made it to the top...tough as it gets on the pitch but a good laugh and a really decent man, who can ever forget his fabulous header against munchengladbach !!... a classic header by a true red....what a feeling it must have been to score such a beauty...🍻
Remember him taking a penalty Pre match before the 1986 cup final. He was on benefits at the time and an Everton fan shopped him to the DHSS. They stopped his benefits 😂😂😂

RIP Tommy. You were a true Anfield Legend. YNWA
Passionate, tough, committed, legend of a player. The kind of player you didn't want to upset on a football pitch.

Favourite story about Tommy Smith was when Chopper Harris poleaxed Emlyn Hughes during a game and he shouted across “well done Ron”. Priceless..
