Proper footballer, hard as nails , he was just a no nonsense hard tackling great defender. I'm a united fan, but players like Tommy Smith were so crucial in all great sides. While the flair players in midfield , and the strikers with their goals get all the praise and credit, players like smith are the glue that holds the team together. Great player, and a lovely bloke.
R I P Mr Tommy Smith. I ad the honour of meeting this man back in the 90s. A true gentleman. Hard as nails on the pitch n although I'm a Walsall fc fan I send condolences to all Liverpool fans around the world. True legend
What a fine player & wonderful servant to Liverpool FC! Tommy played in a team that dominated European football & his name sent shivers through Europe's finest forwards. Saddened that these wonderful old players didn't get the vast monetary rewards of today's players.
One of the club's greatest servants.. Totally committed to the cause and a great Red.. I was lucky enough and privileged to see you play from the late sixties onwards. RIP Tommy
What a man If the modern players had a ounce of the fighting spirit he had we would win a title. Even though I never seen him play much he was before my time he's one of my favourite all time players. Give me football pre premier league any day of the week before the game was killed with the greed of modern football.
Great man, always admired him from a distance as an Arsenal fan. Remember that goal well, I always want British clubs to do well in euro finals. I love the honesty and down to earth nature of Tommy and those of his generation. Very few of the modern players have the charisma of these guys. Massive respect and rest in peace.
r i p tommo, im old enough to have had the honour of watching tommy for many years as a regular at anfield, played for the honour of the club, who will forget that goal in rome
as a kid in formby in the 70s,, this guy was liverpool to a man, with out this guy liverpool were not the same team,,a true shankly legend, l was a leeds fan so this isnt easy for me to say,,but when liverpool played with out tommy they were vulnerable,,such a shame he had to sell his hard earned medals, if he played today ,,he would be buying old legends medals himself and still he would be worth millions,,
All the marvelous men that are still left needs to get together and write a book; all of you have so much to tell us. The Stories you have must be incredible. Someone needs to do this before all of you are gone and no one left to tell us. Thank God for Klopp. He is managing Liverpool forward into the future! We must not forget 'the Road' that Liverpool took to get here; it could help lead Liverpool into the future.
I'm a Chelsea fan and I loved Tommy Smith. A great player and great leader. And he hated Emlyn Hughes who broke Peter Osgood's leg in a filthy assault.,
Ive always been an evertonian but tommy smith was somebody i really liked, a local lad made it good and played in a tremendous team...i genuinely believe we'll NEVER EVER see the likes of tommy smith, brian labone, peter reid or phil thompson again...local players...made it to the top..in great teams consisting 98% of players from the UK...it galls me that those days are gone 😪

It's a shame he had to sell them and not keep them for his family. On the other hand of course he sold them FOR his family. Now - these days - a player with Tommy's talent can earn in a month what these medals fetched in auction. I just feel sad that Tommy had to sell these medals.
Did he really HAVE to sell them? Medals are won on merit... the same goes for war medals. These are sort of things you simply do NOT sell! Keep them and pass them down the generations.
its a pitty he had 2 sell them!:-0 couldnt LFC put em on display 4 him+ other players winners medals + gave the cash 2 the explayers from the fans paying 2 c them? i bet alot of fans wouldve turned up+payed to see them?? it would B-good 4 moral for club + financial 4 the ex players!+they get too keep them! every1 wins, look after our legends!! ynwa.something should be done 4these all time greats! let em keep OWNERSHIP of th medals! put em in trophyroom+payem a wage off club+players at club! How the hell can Tommy Smith say he is "happy with what hes got" 4:25 ? is he talking about the poxy tattered medals he has laying across his grandmothers table? or the poor guys ..life stake on DLA? this was at least 20yrs ago..The real Tommy was left behind!!! and Lost In time a long time ago.... GOD BLESS YOU TOMMY SMITH..RIP YNWA
As a Liverpool fanatic he was a great player, I remember that header in the 1977 European cup final in Rome. However it is very sad that he came out with racist views and comments which have been documented. In addition ex player Howard Gayle in his book quoting in explicit details the constant racist abuse he suffered off Tommy smith. Very sad and upsetting to read .

He seemed to be a nice man, wish he was as nice to the people of the color.
Well, he was around during the black and white days, must of been difficult adjusting to the introduction of colour.
Yes ask Howard Gayle

Where's his surgical collar? Don't let the benefits people see you doing this video, Smithy!
Thug. Wouldn’t last 2 minutes now. Could only kick his opponent no skill what so ever.👎🏻
Table never lies 🤣😂🤣
Bit like Roy Keane.
Yep he was hard but he could play too - he delivered some of the greatest long balls diagonally I've ever seen from a defender
coward
He makes Roy Keene look like a cheerleader
