I was at this game in the man United end, fantastic atmosphere, always had a soft spot for Dundee United after this game, I must admit dundee United where the better team over the two legs.. I miss these days, proper grounds, real fans and standing..
When Scottish clubs were even expected to go far in European competitions, before all the money and foreign players ruined our game, now even my team Ayr utd beat Dundee United 5-0, loved watching highlights at night involving united and Aberdeen in Europe back then.

They did this repeatedly mid season to intentionally destroy the chances of any team that challenged them. It basically became a bought and paid for league for decades.
Remember listening to it from Ireland as a 10 year old on 5live radio with dodgy reception....midweek... it was gripping stuff and up for grabs right up to the end....a united fan.

From a Celtic fan who grew up with DUFC, A/Deen and us fighting for the league, Hearts later. It's still in my head that going to Tannadice will be a hard game. That was a great team. McLean was a superb manager. I always thought the Dundee Utd side of the early to mid eighties were a better footballing side than Aberdeen. No disrespect Aberdeen. Both were great teams. And I've been chased by the Utility and the ASC. It'd be great to see you both up there again. But don't kick my head in please.
I was at Old Trafford watching Celtic play Rapid Vienna that night. There were 50,000 of us. The biggest ever travelling support in football until Seville. I remember we booed when we heard Man U had won.
Remember watching this on Sports night. I loved the Man U kit at the time. Had the home one but would have loved to had the away too... especially the all white. The blue one worn at Sunderland was pretty damn good as well
Jim Mclean what a manager. A true true great - similar to Clough in that he made an ordinary team into almost Euro champs and he won them their only Scotts Prem div in think 82 - 83 season And yes I know Clough did it twice (euro cup)
I remember wishing Robbo well for the 2nd leg when he came to sign some England promotional stuff for a brewery at a nightclub in Hull. He was chuffed that there was at least one genuine United fan there that night and I remember Dundee gave us a helluva game/scare over the two legs. All credit to both teams. This is proper football as it was before the hype and mega bucks ruined it. IMHO, it beats the pants off this modern crap and VAR. Anyone for tiddlywinks before they spoil that too...

I always liked an away day to Dundee,(rolls n mince yummmm!!) you had to watch for AUF/Utillity at the train station/city centre then hilltoun huns on the way up the hill! good chippy at the flats though. Scottish fitba stadium atmospheres were not the same when all seater grounds started replacing the auld grounds. So glad I got to see most of them before it went to shit. BRING BACK TERRACING!!!
The old Tannadice was a great away day. Terracing was almost vertical under the shed. Few pints in The Plough at the top of the road. A mince roll or two and toddle off to the ground. The football specials were great. Get yer macaroon bars!
I was there. Great atmosphere. The difference between the teams was that every Man U player was very good, but United had some weak links. Mind you, it was when United could compete with the best in Europe,courtesy of Jim McLean.

this was the man utd team which got me interested in football. check out that move between robson, stapleton, strachan and finished by hughes. atkinson had a excellent team to watch, they maybe lacked a little in height & he should have spent more on his defence instead of all those strikers. and robson should have worn some sort of shoulder strap. then sparky was sold and big ron got the heave, alex f came in and had to rip out virtually the entire team except robbo and brought back hughes. then as soon as cantona came in, that was the icing on the cake, i knew they'd win the league after that.

You need a degree to get a ticket now. I had an LMTB back in the late eighties but had to give it up. I always regretted that.
