    I just bought this bike and it scares me lol I’m coming from Harley’s so this is a whole different ball game to me but I got it because I don’t trust myself with a r6 or r1 and I just wanted something for my 100 mile commute and this thing does the job haha for $55 a week compared to my truck $140a week I thought this bike is super fast like you said with a constant calm throttle you don’t even notice you’re doing 100… I just wish this bike came with a better exhaust and without that ugly license plate / turn signals I’m so bummed that on top of the bike payment I have to buy an exhaust and fender eliminator kit with integrated lights just to be happy with the look and sound

    Sick edit and commentary ! Also great information, I’ve had the R7 for a month now and I upgraded from a 400CC sport bike. As you said the R7 is a super sport but is still manageable for newer rides. Also when you add your own modifications to the bike such as an exhaust, tail tidy, and new turning signals , this bike changes for the better.
    The only non performance downside is how quiet the bike is. I added a TOCE exhaust system and the bike is so much more louder and gives you a whole new riding experience.

    As a Super Sport, it's the typical Yamaha track weapon, a friend of mine has one, it is on the slim side, being a gen6 ZX10R rider, but I recognize its hidden potential and capabilities, excellent break down and review, and as a side note, all the unsolicited hate let's you know you are going in the right direction

      I don't even think it's potential is hidden. When I rode mine for the first time I immediately felt that it's a weapon. Those high pegs are just chefs kiss, the torquiness in the low rpms, the body position. I think it's perfect in it's own class.

    @mihel 10 месяцев назад +2

    What a great in depth review. The production quality is outstanding! Is the R7 a superbike though, I can't agree. And I own a 60th Anniversary R7 myself. It's just semantics really. R1 class bikes are called superbikes for a reason. If R7 would be a superbike, then R1 would need to be a hyperbike, just for the sake of sheer definition of absurd performance. Just as it is in the car world. It's a great sports bike, a "beginner +" class. Let's say like a Ninja 400+. It is Yamaha's response to people turning MT07's to track bikes and it is just as great at this thing as Yamaha designed it to be.

    • @socalriderb
      @socalriderb  11 месяцев назад +3

      Bro I’ve asked myself that question a lot and here’s how I answer it. The answer is I don’t know. Here’s why I say that. When I had the ninja 400 there were times that I let my inhibitions go and just went hard. But it didnt have that immediate jump to let me make big mistakes. Took a while to get in the higher rpm range and let me rethink how stupid I was being. Didn’t go up to the R7 until I realized that I might have a self control problem that I need to correct. After I got that under control I chose the R7. Now here’s the deal, I could’ve gotten a R1 or another litter bike but I still don’t know how I might handle more power emotionally so I got the R7. I’m more emotionally mature on the bike now, so I’m ready to get that liter bike now

    • @ATrainCalledQ
      @ATrainCalledQ 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@socalriderb I appreciate the answer! I know for a fact that I would push things too far (new rider) and decided that a smaller bike is necessary for me. I want to go fast but I'm old enough (31) to know better. It was a grounding revelation. Thanks again!

I've ridden the R7 a good amount and compared to a basic superbike like the ZX-6R or the R6, I just don't think it compares really. The R7 is kind of in a class of it's own. IN MOST CASE'S the typer expands after heat build-up... you need to adjust your tryers PSI for the type of riding you want to hit like i love hitting's 55 degrees of lean all the time but if your pressers are too high you lose contact patch and you will notice slipping all so its due to Wight placement on the bars {{{{ as well with lower PSI's its harder too turn and you lose responsiveness' but you gain is stable traction and positioning of the front weel and its harder too off place it as well
    me SuperSport rider and I love hitting tyres to the max PSI is super important!!!! never forget that

    Great video. Shame you didn't use actual OW02 videos of Nori Haga sliding the original R7 around Sugo in WSB, since it would have made for a more compelling narrative. Is it a superbike? No! why? Apart from being a sheep in wolves' clothing, the new R7 has the same performance and handling of an SV650S from 2 decades ago. They were fantastic bikes and with the right mods were brilliant track bikes. Light, flickable and plentyof toruqe. Sound familiar? The R7 is an accomplished supertwin and you'll probably see more of these bikes on the Isle of Man or Irish road races. I'd say it's a good ancesteroal replacement to the venerable SV. If you want to call this a superbike, you'll need to classify the Honda NC35 and NC30 and ZXR400 superbikes too, which they clearly arent.

      @@socalriderb not going to lie, your video had me pondering. I've got a 4C8 R1 that I used for track and it's a bit too much for the road. I loved my old CBR500R that I had for a commuter, purely because I could go everywhere on a wide open throttle.
      It's much of the reason why I got drawn to revisiting recent R7 was the fact that it will deliver that essence. Long term videos like yours was very insightful. I'd happily swap the R1 for an R7 because unlike your awesome so cal canyons, the roads across the pond in South Wales and England tend to be piss wet 300 days of the year.
      My other winter bike is an FZS-1000, so it's not as if I need 2x R1 engined bikes for my speed fix.

      if you’re a freeway or track bro, get an R6, sure, but if you want a bike to daily or to commute, the R7 is perfect. having instant torque at like 3k makes it a way more practical city bike vs having to spool up to 9-10k to tap into some power like the R6.
