Mam why are atom not stable

Every atom needs 8 electrons in its outer most shell to become stable. Atoms of helium, neon, argon, krypton means all the noble are stable. Other than that all the atoms have less than 8 electrons in outermost shells. So in order to become stable either atoms loose or gain the electron to have 8 electron in outer most shell or they even share the electrons with other atoms
