    I have a big oil filled geode that I featured in our 500 sub Q&A video. It was the same shock to me as well when I cracked it open and I couldn't find much info on it. Mine is is about 6" round and was completely quartz filled except for a few small pockets that were filled with oil. The worst part is I self collected it over 15 years ago and can't remember where I got it from. I cracked it open only a few years back. I narrowed it down to either Pennsylvania or Texas as that is where I was living back then.
    It still bugs me to this day!

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 года назад +2

      They really are amazing, and from what I can tell it's both rare and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which ones got filled. I saw one video of a person cutting one and the oil just poured out of it.

    Can anyone tell me why they are called thundereggs?

    • @CurrentlyRockhounding
      @CurrentlyRockhounding  3 года назад +2

      According to legend, thundereggs were named by the Native Americans of central Oregon, who are said to have believed that these strange, agate-filled stones were thrown by fighting "thunder spirits" who dwelt on Mount Jefferson and Mount Hood (two of several snow-capped peaks high in the Cascade Range). The Native Americans believed these rival, jealous gods hurled large numbers of the round-shaped rocks at each other in fury during thunderstorms.

      @@CurrentlyRockhounding Thank you so much! I know Mt. Hood. I'm from California. I believe that Mt. Hood is sacred to the Modoc people. Others belive that an underground society of unknown humans (or maybe Et's) reside deep within this volcano.
