    Do you think if you weren't filming you'd get hooked more? These tourneys seem pretty cutthroat especially with no chair. Obviously this is clay so you can kinda check most calls but still curious.

      Not sure how it is in Europe, but I’ve played a ton of futures in the US this year and everybody has been decently fair. I think when you see the same faces week in and week out that if you start hooking people you’ll get a bad reputation quickly and people won’t want to practice with you.

    • @tennisbrothers

    I don't know if it's just for the voice-over, but you're always pointing out every little thing you did well. A positive mindset is important, but if you look at the top players they're often critical of their games and are never tooting their own horns. It comes across as you being complacent and it really seems like you lack that cutthroat competitive nature/fire if you regularly go into matches with prejudices like "he's much more experienced than me" or "this will be a learning experience." Being too nice to yourself won't win you any matches. You actually need to believe you can win these from the get-go to do this, not having excuses to fall back on as backup from the start.

      Yeah I fell that he has the all too common yet dangerous “I’ll play as best I can and if I lose I lose” mentality. It gives you an out. You really have to have the fire and say to yourself “ I’m not losing to this guy across the net”.

    • @frozendiamondz
      @frozendiamondz 2 года назад +18

      Agree. When broken early at 3-1 in the first set: “I think inexperience, I’ve always had a shaky start but I’ve always made up for it in the games after…”. Not sure if having a mentality of accepting a poor start in all your matches is a good one. If that’s a problem then work on it. Play the early games with just as much importance as the later ones else you’ll find yourself in situations where you can’t make it up like this match. Find your rhythm and depth in the warm up. Toss the mentality of a being a player with a slow start and play hard from the beginning and think of yourself of a player who plays hard from point 1!! Keep up the hard work !

      There are many comments on how I comment my videos. When I go hard on myself the comments are mainly about that I need to be more positive - when I comment quite positive the comments tend to go along the way you commented. I guess there is no perfect way to comment. I obviously want to win, I hate losing more then anything! and I'm determined to win when playing - however in the selected scenes I show each week I like to strike a balance in terms of letting you guys know how I reflect on the match, what I felt in the match and how I tried to make it work for me - on the day. Most of all I value your comments ;-) - keep them coming - I try to answer as many as I can.

    Felix - am I missing something? I don't see one backhand of yours hit deep into his backhand corner. Not one. Please correct me if I am wrong. But, I see a ton of forehands you are hitting deep to his forehand. corner And on the ROS, why aren't you aiming your backhand towards the T on his backhand side? He has a slice backhand. For me, bells go off and I know I want to hit high, heavy topspin to his backhand. Those are a pain in the butt to return with a slice. So I would look to hit hard to his forehand to expose the backhand, then high, heavy topspin to his backhand. He will cough up short balls. Obviously, he is a talented player but I don't see your tactics clearly. Sorry if i sound like I am picking on you.

I don't know how tall you are but I'm 5'11 and can serve 130 (120 in matches). On your serve, you lose a lot of height when you commit to it. You have a normal knee bend but drive forward rather than diagonally up toward the ball. Next time you're practicing try too. (or don't, just some friendly advice) :) Good luck in the rest.

    Love the series, love your talent and love your game. Super Djokovic-esque with your strokes and movement. Can’t comment too much on the tennis, as I’m no where near your level. As a viewer though who is rooting for your success, I’m starting to find the branch of commentary a little gratuitous. It comes across as more excusatory and lacking a sense of true self-critique / analysis. Again, as a viewer I’m not sure if this commentary supersedes into your game mentality and whatnot, and therefore contributes to certain results, but it comes across that way. I get there’s some air to fill within the match and we are witnessing the minutiae of athletic performance and change, but may be worth brainstorming some different ideas? Perhaps guest-commentators? Or commentary from your coach? Also totally get that you’re still in teens and such. It seems tough to go through this athletic training, and then publicise your post-match thoughts for entertainment. Obviously commentating and filling space is an art in itself and not a main focus at the minute so totally get why it’d be a bit rushed over. Respect either way.

    Bro, amazing Job. As a tennis player as well, I know it is easy for the others who are watching, to comment about your Game.
    However, the only thing I would say is that maybe you could have work more his weaknesses, like his backhand, lock him up in his backhand corner, in order to open the court, since that would lead him to play more inside-out forehands, opening his forehand side, also since he was slicing a lot with his backhand, there were many chances to go to the net, and etc.
    Of course, therefore it is so important that you dominate your own backhand crosscourt as well, which is something you, me, and probably all players have to improve.

    Hey can I just point out one tactical thing? This might be hard to notice in real life but the time difference between you both, specifically in getting back up from the ground after making the serve, was significantly in your favor.
    He was more unbalanced with his weight on his left side when rising up to rally, compared to your quicker and more balanced, centered, body position to rally.
    He might have a faster serve but if you were able to compact your swing or take the return earlier, and just redirect it away from him, without necessarily hitting it with loads of pace, he would have loads of trouble recovering.
    Just a note

    Your analysis is great and commentary is entertaining for sure. I noticed when your opponent went high topspin to your response was either slice, runaround forehand to middle, tight blocking two-handed backhand. Your recovery is very very good but if you can find a way to mitigate that damage or even turn it into a strength, I think it will put pressure back on your opponent to rethink their strategy. This is just off a glance of highlights. Great work!

    Thanks for the upload, it provides a really good insight on what you have to go through even to get one point. However I couldnt help but get angry at you how your opponent didnt really hit any backhands, and when he did, most of the time you won the point or received a shorter, easier shot. Maybe I am wrong, and the highlight missed his powerful backhand winners, please let me know. Thanks!

    I think you must gain a little more pace and spin to be effective on clay. Recover a medium ball is very simple for good player on clay and to excape from central drills you must add extra power and rotation to the forced shot. You opponent in this occasion is a good player, but nothing incredible and many times he can dictate the point with his forehand. These are the players that you must overcome most of the times. You are young and you gonna make it.

    I didn't see you going for angles. Play them with some top spin. Works well for me. It helps me to open the court and play a bit more offensive on clay.

      @@tennisbrothers Going into rallies with clay players is not always the best way, especially when you are used to play on gras or hard court. It's fun but they usually have more experience on this surface. Further more it is a bit one dimensional. Drop shots work great as well when you want to break the rhythm of an ongoing rally (Don't have to mentioned that you opponent has to hit shorter so that you can attack 😉)
      As far as I now you like to go to the net so angles could open you new opportunities to shorten points. What does your coach think?

    I think you have to reduce those errors! You try to go for everything but you still dont know how to play on clay! In contrary the other guy knew perfectly what to do so learn from him - keep the ball in!! - go deeper and move your opponent around the court - also stay in lower position when moving around !! - So basically build up the point rather than going for winners from difficult positions only ending up missing simple shots… Just my 5 cents! It takes time to master clay court!! Keep it up 👍

    • @jonathanp639
      @jonathanp639 2 года назад

      But Felix has the weapons than Leonardo lacks of. It’s like asking M. Berretinni or A.Rublev to play like Nadal. They would be more ineffective, as consistency is not their main weapon. Felix doesn’t need to play like Leonardo, just play his game more confident and that takes time to build up. Once he starts winning he will be unstoppable.

    Very strange match, lot of breaks especially in second set. You got your chances in your serve but played little bit easy on them and let the opponent keep the rythym in rallies. Next single when you are playing, can you take your coach to commentate your play just like you doing in videos? It would be constructive to you and us. Keep going Felix! Good job.

    a) I know it is not common for guys at your level to sweep the court after each set but imo players who don't lose all rights to complain about bad bounces. Saying this as a member of volunteer groundsmen in my club.
    b) will you and Ashley focus on improving your shots or on your tactical game/shot selection as well? It's hard to tell from short match summarys but in many videos I had the impression that you are playing opponents who cannot really hurt you with their backhands but you are giving them to many opportunities to use their huge forehands (e.g. by that sloppy slice at 10:07). Or are you not at a point where you feel confident to play BH cross court rallys with guys on that level, yet?

    Nice play Felix, definitely some adjustments you’ll need to do with your court placement and backhand.
    It always seem you kind “shy” and your opponent dominating the point, definitely if you could maintain your game like when you got “loose” you would win lots of matches.
    Of course far from me to advice you, I’m sure you working in with your coach, but it could do you good some “hunter mentality” in the court
