I am age 42 and have considered myself to be part of Goth culture for nearly 30 years. Lynn and Connor, you have such wonderful advice and insights on what the culture truly means. It's about exploring, being comfortable enough to ignore judgement, and ultimately embracing the individual within. Burn by the Cure is my absolute favorite song by them. Ill admit im jealous you saw them perform Burn live! I've seen the Cure twice but unfortunately they didnt play Burn. Still amazing though. 🖤

I'm always socially conscious too. I never know what to say to new people. It's sometimes easier if we have similar interests. I'm always quite. Really enjoy the channel.

The Hunger is another good movie too. With David Bowie and Bela Lugosi Dead, you can not complain. Crow is definitely my favorite and an emotional movie as a person that went through similar things.

Anxiety can be a weird thing...not only have I felt like I could sink through the floor (sometimes depends on the
situation) I will totally go blank-I'll forget a name or something and I get quiet thinking why my circuits misfire at the most inopportune moment. I feel the struggle when it comes to anxiety. As for meeting you guys either you two would be "oh she's so awesome" or you two would run away screaming lol. Sometimes other people get thrown by my humor because it can go dark sometimes.
Honestly same. It comes and goes sometimes too, I can have stretches where it's not as bad, but I've had a long run of it being really bad recently, definitely feel the sinking through the floor thing!
Hoping everything goes easier for you on the anxiety-in the past my anxiety would be bad enough to cause panic attacks. Thankful I haven't had panic attacks in a long time.
I’m an (old) 80’s kid and I’ve seen The Cure 5 times since 1986. Best concert ever, every time! But I’m basically the preppie in a sea of black. Love it! I’m glad you got to see them.

I've never seen the crow. You guys have talked about this movie before in another video. Now that it's out on Netflix, I'm definitely going to watch it.

And definitely watch "The Crow: City of Angels" as well. I know most sequels SUCK but this one is really beautiful and I feel really continues the mood and world of The Crow.
I watched the Munsters, Adams Family and I believe I watched The Crow once as a child, thinking around 6-7 maybe, one thing I remember was liking how the "creepy" cartoon characters looked as a kid

I can relate to the Panic (hence the shirt I made that says "I panic at a lot of other places besides the disco") I have a job where when I tell people I am shy and have anxiety it surprises them. So thank you for answering my question and I hope that if I ever visit Ireland I can meet you guys maybe :3 no pressure lol. Also, having a significant other who is "social butterfly" is a life saver when more introverted. ^-^
I feel like the being old and alternative thing is easier when you have tattoos like when I’m old I’m still going to have all these bats and ghosts and creepy things tattooed on me 😂 without effort I will still look alternative without having to actively do anything lol. Speaking of other j-fashion styles would you ever do a dark decora look? Cybr grl did a video trying it out and it looked so fun
This is so true ! We are both covered in spooky tattoos, like bats, pumpkins and ghosts 👻 Although in Ireland it’s always cold so we cover up and no one ever gets to see them 😂 It think probably getting our necks tattooed fully black would do the job! Ohh I’m going to look up that video now ! I’ve only ever seen really colourful decora so that sounds interesting! I could imagine a full Sanrio Kuromi decora look!

Channel 4 started showing The Munsters when the channel first started [Mid 80s] along with a few other old Black and white shows [I guess they got as cheap filler] Lost in space, I love Lucy etc, they where kind of a 'big thing' back then as English kids hadn't seen them before

yea I have very bad social anxiety, im completely comfortable at home, around family around friends etc, but I struggle to even to walk to the gas station and pick up a drink or snack
Mine is definitely situation depending, like if I go somewhere /do something often enough I can mentally prepare myself and its okay. But social gatherings and new people etc just send my body into fight or flight
@@RandomGothCouple yea im basically the same, my friend tried taking me to a party once and I said why not, try and meet some new people, but I basically just froze and panicked stuck by her side the entire time, I was not comfortable at all, like I can handle small gatherings as long as atleast 1 or 2 people are there that I know, but larger groups I just feel lost and want to leave asap

I found The Cure bc they did the opening of a cartoon that i realy liked in my childhood called Dragon Hunters. It´s their best song in my opnion.

I absolutely love the Addams family and my personal favourite is Wednesday definitely can't wait for 2nd season on Netflix. Also I've never listened to any of the bands listed in your video but I like listen to Evanescence, Elysion and other bands that use Goth in their music occasionally like Motionless in white so does that make me not a Goth....
If you like those bands you should try out more gothic metal bands like paradise lost, lacrimosa etc definitely think you'd enjoy that! Like I said, once the interest is there, it's a mindset and all about personal identity! No one can tell you otherwise!
And Lacuna Coil check them out! Maybe Nightwish too...

There was actually an attempt to reboot the Munsters a decade ago, produced by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Hannibal), but it never got past the pilot stage. The reboot had a new title: Mockingbird Lane. The pilot is available to stream, but sadly no physical media release.

I Rescued a bat of my cars roof and fed it fruit and kept it in a dark place till night then i let it go that when i use to live in my old house i wanted to keep it but i know i had to let it go unfortunately but it kept flying around the house then it flew off in the night

About the band question: like I listen to a lots of different goth or dark music, I like to look goth pretty often and I like gothic aesthetics so therefore I call myself a goth. However if you said you only listen to one or two bands, say The Cure, and that's it, you can't call yourself a goth.

As an elder goth I have a little bit of advice for newcomers. Find the nice older people in the subculture. Among those of us in the 40+ crowd there tends to be two kinds of people. There are the elitist gatekeepers and there are what I call the bodyguards. We bodyguards will protect you as much as we can from the judgmental jerks and we will make sure you have a good time within the subculture. We will be happy to give you the best hacks on DIY projects or tell you where to find the best makeup or talk music with you in a relaxed way (with some of us also wanting to learn about newer bands or styles you may know about that we don't).
Bodyguards want the subculture to be a welcoming place that evolves and continues. We want newcomers to get into goth subculture and we invite their creativity and inspiration.
Anyone who uses gatekeeping to try to prove how special they are is hiding some insecurities on the issue. They are afraid they aren't goth enough so they have to try to seem gothier than others. In reality we are all equal (regardless of how many/which goth bands you listen to or how you dress or how long you've identified as goth).
I think the whole hierarchy of gothiness is silly but I'll use my goth cred to help newcomers any day. :)
i get the height difference thing XD my husband is 6' 4" and I am 5' 5"....they always see him first but thats okay. though now i have red hair, so people tend to remember us idk why but that makes me anxious

My favorite Gothic movie is Sleepy Hollow by Tim Burton.
I have bats under my windowsill so if I have the window open during the summer they sometimes accidentally fly into my house. As cute as they are I try to avoid it. I found a mummified bat once in my living room and I don't want that to happen again. Look at my page and you'll see the last bat I found (but in my garage.)

@@RandomGothCouple Yeah that's the plus. I can hear them during the first half of summer too, presumably because they have babies and they are chatty. They have a very high-pitched sound that you feel more than you hear.

Kane was my favourite wrestler as a kid, undertaker was a close 2nd! I think this sacrifice by London after Midnight would fit so well in a gloomy early 2000s style vampire action movie!
Y’all ever pet a bat? I remember a fruit bag picked the parade pad to roost under the ceiling. I gently pet his head with my finger tip and he was soft. Didn’t bite or try to, seemed to like being pet on the head.

I’m 68 and still wear the Black…been thru the best days of the 80’s & 90’s…ok more Gothic Victorian now and toned down but will never change..my partner is in her 50’s and will never change…60’s Addams Family & Munsters is what we grew up with…its too varied now and not the the same really and newby Goths i speak to copy YT Goth influencers too much…Type O Negative will always be the best Gothic Metal band!!!
