i just spent the last 2 weeks with ya learning this solo..Ive been wanting to learn this lead since i was 16..im 64 now and retired so i now have the time..This video is much easier than spinning the record on 33 1/3 rpm like we had to way back then lol...Ijust want to thank you so much for taking the time to post this vid..Great work..you are a great teacher..thanks again man
Dude!! I posted my comment, then saw yours! Sounds as though we had the same experience! Two weeks to break it down, started playing in my late teens, now I'm 62 and revisiting and learning old solos!! Even made the same comment about spinning the record over and over!! I swear I didn't read yours first, so that's awesome!! 😅
Well finally! I finished the solo that I never thought I could play because of a lot of different reasons one being low /short.concentration issues . I have to say with your guidance I frigin did it man ,now just get the speed up and Bang !! Always loved that slide /back,feed/back 7/5. 1st one Thanx Kelly!!/your akool dude . Think you have some Trower lessons will work on next .later...
I was working on something VERY different (Kid Charlemagne solo) when I started surfing and accidentally came across this video. How glad I am that I did. I think you did an excellent job of breaking this old classic down. Got a little fast for me here and there, but that's what rewind is for, right? Heck of a lot better than the old days of trying to place the needle on the vinyl in exactly the right spot, over and over again!! 😀 Anyway, been doing bits and pieces for a couple weeks, but finally got it all down. I had to play with a backing track several times to get the total "feel" and timing down, but again, it seems to be right on the money. Thanks for an excellent presentation!
Excellent tutorial, great patience as you are going through the solo. I found myself very rarely needing to slow down the video to catch all the detail. Thanks again for taking the time putting this together!
Good Day fine Sir! I have been following your guitar video’s and I have found them to be excellent! I’m a long time Michigander and enjoy a lot of the same music that you have highlighted. Hats off to your fine classic rock selection of all time and the licks! Really dug your Sweet Jane video as with one. I feel truly inspired by your playing and teachings! Rock on Brother! Tim
Thanks Tim! I'm glad you enjoy what I do. It's turned into a good hobby for an older fella, haha. I like shining a bit more light on some of the unsung players from the seventies. That's where my heart is.
Your lessons are excellent...I enjoy your detailed style of teaching, even without tab I've learned how to become a better guitar player...thanks again mate
Quickly becoming my favorite guitar channel! Absolutely love your content and approach! This classic solo actually looks doable for me... unlike most! Kelly, thanks for the repeated inspiration to keep picking up my guitar!
Well that's very kind, thank you. There's a hell of a lot of guitar channel competition out there and I don't want to just rehash what others are doing.
Love it. I learned the chords a long time ago and improvised along with it the best I could. It's nice to finally know how it's actually played. If nothing else I can keep noodling with it but include the signature phrases I just learned.
Great tutorial. I was able to learn the solo very quickly. The scale run starting at about 2:02 seems to be played differently by everyone. I listened to the record and heard yet something different. A bit baffled by that section.
Tenho 55 anos, sou do Brasil e adoro está música. Estou estudando guitarra a dois meses e está sendo um desafio tocar isso, mas estou tendo progresso. Obrigado pela aula maravilhosa!!!
Wish i could go back 50 years and hear how I played this solo in my cover band,i had a new LP and a Red Marshall 1/2 stack Superlead 100 watt,we played CrossEyed Mary ,Locomotive Breath, lots of DP and Lz
Seeing as the acoustic guitar has a capo on the 3rd fret, and only one note during the solo goes below the capo (the low A#) which can be played on the 6th string, i play the whole song with the capo on, and i play the solo too. It works, perfectly. Learning the solo with the capo means you can bring the volume right down and play the acoustic parts when the time comes.
How can you not love a Jethro Tull guitar lesson done on a Squier? Excellent! (I bet he is even using a Squier 10 watt solid-state amp, but who cares!!!!!) LOL. Killer!
@jedsmith4988 thanks mate! Well, D is the fifth interval of G, both major and minor, so any D note while soloing in G is going to compliment your solo nicely.
Fabulous once again Kelly! You’ve nailed the tone too. What effect have you got on the Strat? Always thought Martin Barre played a Les Paul? Another one of my favourite classic rock solos from the 70s. Top man.
In this tutorial I didn't worry to much about tone. Just my amp with a bit of chorus. This particular Strat has three humbuckers in it. I have it on the bridge pickup. My performance video for the top 100 solos however, I really worked at the tone on that one. Bit of fuzz but not too much. Low gain on the amp, and again bridge humbucker.
Awesome tutorial, thank you !!!

Thank you for your detailed instructions which many instructors don't have the patience for. Thanks again.

Kelly Once again great work! Your playing is so clean The tutorial is very well structured. Thanks again.

The way he groups the same 3 or 4 notes together in each little phrase, learning this solo is like playing Simon.
Thank you!! Excellent and clear.
Thanks Joe!
👍🏻Two tutorials from you on this, no excuses for me not to deep dive this song.
Thanks
Thank you! It is the best tutorial by far! Two thumbs up!
Love it. I learned the chords a long time ago and improvised along with it the best I could. It's nice to finally know how it's actually played. If nothing else I can keep noodling with it but include the signature phrases I just learned.
Great job man! I love this song and I'm starting to learn to play guitar. Thank you so much for the work. Congratulations and prosperity...

Still, my favorite guitar solo of all time!
Great job, Kelly Dean!!!

Awesome job good teacher.
Thanks Gordon!
Your welcome Kelly.
Much thanks sir! Excellent lesson
A great tutorial. Interested to know what pickups you've got in your Squier?

awesome! Many thanks!

Excellent lesson on a brilliant solo. Any reason the licks, mostly in Gm, start and stop on D?
@jedsmith4988 thanks mate! Well, D is the fifth interval of G, both major and minor, so any D note while soloing in G is going to compliment your solo nicely.

Fantástico!!!
Excellent! Kelly can you make it look like it’s a little hard for you.
Thanks man, appreciate that!
Nice try .
Now did you NOT !! notice it was played
on. 59 Les Paul?
Because that strat sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard .
So that is a fail .
That Strat has humbuckers in it. So it's not the pickups.
