    I just bought a set of each type myself for my new time trial bike and got the following weight.
    Continental GP 5000 TT TR - 28mm = 248,7 gram
    Continental GP 5000 TT TR - 28mm = 258,4 gram
    Continental GP 5000 S TR - 28mm = 282.5 gram
    Continental GP 5000 S TR - 28mm = 287.6 gram

    Great, love these videos! Regarding the TT TR, that’s about 5.7% of error. Coming from the outdoor apparel industry, I’d say that’s close to acceptable. I’d expect everything within 5% from any item with a liquid state production step. (The rubber in this case) Keep up the great vids.

    Love everything you do. May I suggest doing a video about the weight of air in the tyres. I have measured it to be quite a bit. Not surprisingly because it’s pressured.

      Unsolved RUclips-Quirk: when people delete their comments. You can weigh the tire without air and with air in it.

    • @fiddleronthebike
      @fiddleronthebike 2 месяца назад

      you can do that, but it is relative meaningless; the air inside a 28 mm tire pumped to 6 bar adds only about 1.5 g to the wheel, so you can neglect that, even as a weight wheeney

    • @christocan4710
      @christocan4710 2 месяца назад

      @@fiddleronthebike I don’t think that is correct. I weighed my wheels and it was a lot more. 1 Liter would be 13 grams unpressured. At 6 bar and 0,5 liters this would already be almost 40 grams. Or am I missing something?

    GP 5000 28mm clincher is 242gramms measured. Michelin Power Cup clincher 237gramms. With 30gramms TPU these are the way to go for weight weenies. GP 5000 clincher is also much more bullet proof against punctures vs. STR/TT.

      On paper that maybe, because of tubeless, the gap kind of closes. And in the real world 600miles in, ridding over very flinty and sand cover roads I have yet to see any cuts in the tyers.
      but then I run these on on resvere 40|44's with 25mm ID and the 28s blow up to to around 32mm wide on these rims so I can run pressures into the high 50's depending on the roads and dryness of the route. I really love the power cups they are miles better than any of the GP's but until Michelin up date those with a larger tread cap on my wheels they're a no go, and on many modern rims over 20mm ID.

    Not bad weights for 28mm. I've just received some IRC Pro Formula TLR S-Light in 25mm and they're 224g. My Challenge Criterium TL in 25mm are 230g.

    What's the difference between STR and TTTR? is one strictly for tubeless and the other on can be used with tubes? Both are TR (tubeless ready?) so it's a bit confusing.

    • @slayerofgrams
      @slayerofgrams  Год назад +3

      All can be used with tubes or run tubeless.
      The TT TR (TT stands for time trial) is a lighter and had better claimed rolling resistance. But is less durable than STR.
      For everyday riding the STR is probably the your best bet between the two (if you’re not counting grams)

    GP5000 S TR - I found them not very reliable .... maybe mine bad luck? GP5000 (standard) worked for me for 2y. but with S TR (tubeless) i had problems in last 3 months, and i had to pump them up every day.
    maybe they are too thin ???

    • @gaza4543
      @gaza4543 8 месяцев назад

      Tubeless in general you will find yourself having to add pressure most days, it's akin to running latex tubes but no wear near as bad. But you should only lose around 1-2 PSI in a 12 hr period. If you're losing PSI at a rate of knots then there is something wrong with the installation, My Gp 5k s tr's held air for hours without sealant and are actually some of the best tubeless tyers for road I have come across in that regard if not the the best.
      I use orange seal reg I think that the keys for Conti , from what I have read GP str are happy bead fellows with this combo and proved as much, beyond that make sure the rim tape is perfect and has been compressed for a few days with a tube in the tyre prior to the conversion. Something that really helped me was to use the Reserve Fillmore valves, these are brilliant and allow the tier to be inflated with nothing more than track pump. Make sure you add a healthy first dose of sealant, I added 50ml to my 28's, on my rims they're big boys! running close to 32mm, so im really pushing them and ive had zero issues. with weeping side walls or anything I was all set up in 10mins. got them to hold air with no lose in 15mins.
      Coat the tyers in soapy suds and look for air leakage get the sealant over these problem areas, leave the wheels on side on top of a bucket for a few mins allowing the sealant to settle
      all the time squeeze the tyres between your fingers enough to compress the bead ever so slightly and the sealant will find its way in to gaps of bead. Often the problem area.
      Tubless you have to methodical everything has to be done just so, it can't be a "that'll do" mentality it just wont work otherwise and everything as to be supper clean
