Thank you all so much for watching! I didn’t know how close this genre was to many people, thank you so much for your game suggestions! I’ll check them out!!
I've been playing SD2 since before its official release & after all these years I'm still learning more each time I play. A solid 9/10 for me. A few minor gripes but tge developers have worked hard to get a good balance & make it fun.
That’s awesome! How did you find it? I love that feeling of solid knowledge but always something to learn. I have that with Europa Universalis 4. It always baffles me how they develop these types of games.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I'd spotted SD44 videos on YT & liked the look of it but heard SD2 was about to be available for beta testing & immediately paid for it. Absolutely love the game's depth. I agree about the complexity being a bonus for staying engaged long term. With SD2 I think the sheer veriety of units ads a lot of that depth. Subtle differences often but they help keep it interesting. The deck building system is also a great idea. So many possibilities.
@@McMonkeyful Thank you so much for such a well crafted response! I absolutely agree with you, and wish I had come up with those lines lol! All the best
Steel Division 2 is one of my most played games but I personally don't consider it realistic. For example, tanks have health points (you can't see it but they're there, represented by battle damage). If you want to check out something realistic I suggest taking a look at Graviteam Tactics Mius Front. Wind and temperature affects ballistics. Just know that it plays like a historical battle simulator rather than a traditional RTS. Merry Christmas!
@@MrSquishyMelon sounds great! I love the Cold War setting! I’m interested because I’ve only known of it as a “cold” war but I’m sure there were many “hot” conflicts
I have to admit this genre of game was not my forte, but I’m so glad that the community has strong feelings about the topic! I’m going to pick up gates of hell, everyone has recommended it!
very realistic rts for recommendantion: combat mission series, most new one is CM:COLD WAR but there are various others being those modern day like CM:BLACK SEA(war in ukraine wich was actually made before the war started and was realistic enough for one of the ambushes you do on the campaign to have been done in real life in the same place it happened in the game and theres a video of it) CM: SHOCK FORCE 2(fictional war in Syria NATO VS SYRIAN ARMY AND UNCONVENTIONALS) and then theres WW2 Combat missions wich there are several going from italy to eastern front to berlin or france graviteam tactics is also very realistic especially due to its communication system and is probably the most realistic ww2 rts there is less realistic ones the best would be gates of hell full of content but i havent played much
Not even close to titles like Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front or Combat Mission series played in real time. I think You used wrong adjective (realistic) or mentioned games are not in RTS category, which is a point I can see.
I completely disagree.. I downloaded and played steel division 2 with all the dlcs.. I really liked the large map and all the historical units, divisions..etc I also like how plane battles look, However when it comes to gameplay, it just feels very surface level.. Meaning when units clash, you dont really get the sense of a combat happening.. it just looks like paperclips dont silly animations then disappearing into the ether.. Look at units when they surrender.. or when they climb out of vehicles, the vechicles just disappear.. I wouldnt call this game realistic at all.. It's fun, grand scale military tactics game probably.. but definitely not realistic.. Gates of Hell, now THAT game is pretty realistic and immersive.
Howdy! Thank you for writing this! I completely understand some of your points, and definitely the vehicles vanishing breaks immersion. And that’s with every game, I do think when you zoom in and have utilized tactics well, it does feel more in depth rather than surface level. But that’s my personal opinion and I’m not taking anything away from your experience. I’ve heard a lot about gates of hell so I’ll have to check it out! Thank you again!
So i got the bundle of everything for around 34. I would highly suggest if you want specific ones to look for the ones that give you American armies and other ones. it brings greater diversity to the game. Hope this helps! Let me know
Wow, thanks for the quick response. Can you respond too now, my antivirus quarantined Win32BogEnt and won't allow for the dl to continue. Should I flag as false positive?@@Dog.Dad.Studios
I wouldn't call it realistic, this looks like Michael Bays version of war. Give Graviteam Tactics a try if you want something that aims to be realistic
Wargame: Red Dragon was better. Steel Division made it a lot more game-ified/casual. There were definitely improvements, but the Multiplayer was much better on Wargame: Red Dragon. The tactical and stealth elements were a lot better in W: RD.
That’s very sad, I don’t understand why developers do this. I really liked the maps they had but user created content is always the best. Thanks for your comment
There are heaps of community mods for this game. The maps are not moddable because the AI needs individual scripting to understand how to play each map. The lack of maps is one of the biggest complaints in the community but there are heaps of mods for the ui, divisions, stats and graphics.
Looks like a cartoon. Just all flash... No substance. I can almost see the floating HP bars. For a better arcade experience you can play: Gates of Hell or Men of War. For a better warsim experience you can play Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front or the Combat Mission series. This is just... Ugh... How are you actually praising this? That's like giving 5 stars to cafeteria food... Standards man... Have them.
You can't even compare GOH or MOW to sd2, completely different styles of games. I agree it's definitely not the most realistic but the balance between realism and fun is really good.
The problem with Combat Mission - while it’s unquestionably best available small units tactics simulation, battles there couldn’t be characterized as “this looks like war”, because graphics are poor and it looks like ****, not war :). Gates of hell has beautiful graphics and for an RTT they implemented some interesting ideas (I.e. no hit points for AFVs, somewhat decent penetration system, etc.) But collapsing ranges (they wanted to use as many on the map as possible, instead of sticking to what’s appropriate), lack of morale, breakneck speeds and a complete lack of C&C considerations, make the game fun to play, but very little to do with actual WW2 battlefield. Steel Division does the ranges well (mostly), but has not physics at all (otherwise, you would not be able to run the game), and of course C&C considerations aren’t there either. Which brings us to Graviteam - which attempts to simulate the battlefield with information flow, use of observation devices (tanks can’t see with their surface:), terrain physics (vehicles will get stuck in the mud), ballistics, etc. But it makes the experience very unusual, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I just bought this game winter sale on steam. Definitely one of the best RTS games I've ever played.
