Onions are the mans apple. lol. My grandfather used to make me a sandwich that consisted of an inch thick slice of onion on rye bread with mustard and pepper.... I loved it. even as a child.... good man Mr. Offerman.

That eye twitch in the beginning was perfect.
My grandfather would regularly eat onions like this. He would throw a dusting of salt and pepper on the exposed flash as he ate it. He would hoard those little S & P packets in his pocket, which would bust open. Then, he’d come in for a hug, and the seasoning would dump out of his shirt pocket. He was also a big fan of a thick slice onion sandwich on rye with salt pepper and mustard. Every now and again, he would spread butter on both sides and cook it like a grilled cheese. He was always very adamant that you don’t want to heat the onion when doing it. Super hot pan and super quick sear.
I was talking about him while I had some people over one Christmas night, and a buddy of mine put back an onion about half the size of this one. He said his goodbyes suspiciously early, and when I went out to my car, which was parked next to his, right there on the parking line, there was a puddle of onion puke, with footprint in it. I guess whoever took his spot, wasn’t looking when they got out of the car? I don’t know, but I got a good chuckle out of it. Poor shoe 🤮👟

In Germany a very popular thing to eat on bread is "Mett" which is essentially minced pork with a specific mixture of spices. It's essentially raw besides being cured. You normally put salt, pepper and onion on it.
Whenever people wonder how much onion I put on it (tons!) I often just go ahead and eat the onion like this. It looks badass and is delicious!
