I'm only a 23 year old but I honestly vouch with people in the comments about certain appliances from back then lasted years. Being from parents growing up during the 60s and 70s, I always hate how the things they have that are older then me last way longer then things made now a days. We had our fridge for 25-30 years that worked like a dream, and then they got a new one last year that broke within the first month. This century is taking a downturn that only Carol Burnett can fix with laughter 🙏🏻

They arranged for a sales rep to come over and my Aunt was also there. The guy went through the ENTIRE presentation. Mom kept interrupting him to say, "You don't have to do this. We each want to buy one." But he went on for almost 45 minutes. It was weird. But in the "olden days" people had work ethics, so maybe he felt he had to do something to earn his money. 🤔 Not like these days. 🤑 LL 🙋🏻‍♀️✝🇨🇦

I once let a double glazing salesman pitch for five hours. They cold called me, I told his manager that I wouldn't be signing until I had got three quotes. Also told the patronising salesman the same thing as soon as he arrived. I opened a box of chocolates for 'lunch'. As he was leaving with me not buying he suggested I made out a personal cheque to him for the deposit, and if I changed my mind he would destroy the cheque. I got my cheque book out, his face lit up. I put the pen on the cheque book, he was happy. Then I told him that I wanted to get three more quotes. He left slamming the door.

I remember my father putting the Rainbow Vacuum Salesman through two hours of hell making him demo every feature: sucking water out of the toilet - then blowing the water back out; vacuuming out our dirty fireplace... Then making him vacuum our entire house. Meanwhile, my father is poring highballs insisting that the salesman drink with him. Eventually, my father broke out the checkbook since the poor guy definitely worked for it. In 1974, $1200 for a vacuum was a lot of money, but my dad said it was a fair deal since the guy drove at least 15-20 miles from the nearest town out to our ranch, and the fact he was such a good sport.

    • @jaffaorange3809

You're talking about the Compact. It changed its name to Tri-Star. They were green, they were gold, they changed to red and then red with a black bottom and finally silver with a black bottom. I used to sell them for $1500 in 1986. Great vacuum.

I heard a saleslady tell a young couple (they were going out the door) to go shop other stores and they'd find a sofa they could afford... the man bought a sofa from her! It was a weird tactic but it worked. I sold a king mattress once by suggesting his wife would fuss at him for buying it! LOTS of strange closes... but if it works... it works!
