This song is so beautiful, it just gives me a scene in my head with pirates, partying and slaying off there bountys and celebrating about there fallen captian, and how they are just having smiles on there faces along with the villagers as they return home with a bounty reward!
This song makes me think of King David from the Old Testament, he was all of these (Soldier, Poet and King) in one, he was a soldier in Saul's army (his most famous act was slaying Goliath) many of the Psalms were written by him and of course he became the first true King of Israel (Saul was selected by the people but God chose David)
So many people don’t realize the true meaning of the song, but I’m glad you mentioned it! I love how everyone makes something different out of the song
Actually, it’s about Jesus. “He will slay you with His tongue” is referring to the verse in the Bible that mentions His words being sharper than a two-edged sword. “He will tear your city down” refers, I believe, to your sin, rather than an actual city, though he did destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, so… there were actual cities as well. 😅
