Nick Murray - " The GTS is a package of everything unnecessary offered on the 911" also Nick Murray - " I have a collection of casio calculator watches"
Nick, what I love about your reviews is that you always provide a detailed & very honest take on all cars. So even though you 're a Porsche and a BMW guy, you're not afraid to admit when something is wrong with them or when a competitor does it better. But yet you're still positive about the whole experience...
A GTS has a bunch of unnecessary add ons? Says the guy with the seatbelt outlet trim in leather for $550, steering column casing in leather for another $500 and model designation stamped into the armrest for $350. Personal taste is ALWAYS considered unnecessary by other people.
I think he’s right about the Alcantara, looks so so when it’s new, when it’s a few years old can look horrible. I would however order the PDK and sport PASM with full leather interior.
These two cars with manual transmissions & non professional drivers almost invalidate the experiment, The GTS was clearly the faster, you can see it pull ahead between gear changes, the GTS driver seemingly messed up every gear change. I'd expect the more commonly supplied PDK semi auto gearbox cars to produce a different outcome and in favor of the GTS.
Yes I think he even started in a lower gear than me each time so he would pull ahead and then have to change. I think the interesting part is that when both in 4th gear side by side the GTS did not pull ahead.
I also should have said well done for making the effort to do this, another pointer to my slight bias is that my GTS is on order and I've optioned the PDK,
The manual box is just more fun, and once you master it nothing else compares. There is nothing like banging through the first few gears and nailing every shift. Takes practice though.
Ok Nick, you did it again! You can't hide your hate about the GTS... By the way, Euro delivery is back! I'm just coming from Europe where I did 6k road trip on a GTS and JES, never cross my mind having less power and less handling capacity. On the Nurburgring, it's was totally impressive and on the ALPS, never get tired because of the suspension, always super comfy even after full day driving. Did the German autobahn (where you MUST put the firm suspension setting at very high speed), Austrian, Italian, French and Swiss ALPS. Also the Mediterranean coastal roads and nothing to complain about the GTS. I was waking up at night and thinking: "Are we morning yet, are we morning yet" Here some FACTS: 1. You CANNOT order a Carrera S with the wide body like the GT3 (4wd out of the question when you know how to drive and Porsche proved it by not putting the AWD on the GT3 and the GT2). This is enough argument to order a GTS right there. 2. On the Nurburgring (The absolute reference for sports cars), the GTS do it in 7m24s and the Carrera S in 7.34. 10 second faster, than the S and even faster than the Ferrari ENZO! By the way, the front lip is made of cheap black plastic and it's designed to be changed without spending big $. 4. On the autobahn, the GTS manual 7 speeds can do 200mph, not the S! ruclips.net/video/k-nym4O7wt8/видео.html 5. About the Centerlock wheels, when you have a flat tire, you call Porsche assitance because you don't want a grease monkey touching your car anyway. Also, never heard you complaining about the Turbo S, GT3 or GT2 wheels (Centerlock also)... Finally, the rims are larger than the ones you can get on the Carrera S (.5 inches) so that's another things that is not possible to upgrade on a S. 6. The sound insulation is different on a GTS providing more engine noise inside the car. Also another option not available on the S... 7. About the black theme, I was prepared to add all those option on the S before the announced the GTS so it's a huge $ saving to have it all on the GTS. If you don't like it, you can change it to std config as well as the Alcantara interior for 0$ 8. The GTS represent the most desirable 911 to drive on roads for performance/confort and you can also take it on the track, it will perform pretty good. The GT3 is really tough to get and a lot more expensive. Turbo and Turbo S are 4wd and PDK only so only for baby boomers (no offense). Keep making videos Nick so I can correct you when you talked about the 911 GTS :) Regards.
To give you a more complete answer... I totally agree with all your points (well aside from 3 and 8) of course the GTS is faster as I said in the video, my point is that to get the small amount of extra performance you sacrifice some of the fun, joy and convenance of owning and driving a 911. A GTS is faster but back to back the base Carrera is more fun to drive every time.
Fact #3, I think the front lip might hit the road in city driving (speed hump, etc) but didn't experience it in GTS driving (Grand Touring Sport). That might explain our different experience between Nick & I. By the way, Nick 911 front lip looks more damaged than the GTS one... Probably because the GTS is new, I know. Finally, Porsche offer the front axle lift option so not a real problem since there is a solution when you ordered. GT3 and GT2 are way worse and Nick do not bitch about them, why is that possible? (see my explanation at end of Fact #8) Fact #8, the GTS is a Grand Touring Sport, if that's your kind of usage, it's the car for you. You do racetracks, buy a GT3 or a GT2. You do city driving most of the time, bought a Carrera. If you bought a Carrera S before the GTS was available, do like Nick, bitch about the GTS...

Hello Nick! As an M4 owner, i had come across a few of your M4 videos before. Now that i've placed my GTS order, more of your videos came up on my 911 GTS searches. Since, apparently, we tend to like the same cars, i just subscribed to your channel. +1 for the C4S front active vents / aero. Radiator doesn't become a giant leaf collector during the fall / winter seasons. I had to put in customer made grill for my Cayman to stop debris from collecting there.
You're crazy, Nick. I love the GTS trim. It's the sweet spot in the 911 lineup, as far as the price to performance ratio, and it looks sporty. What's so wrong with that? That said, my top choice in the lineup would be the new GT3 Touring because you get the lovely 4.0 na engine, as well as a more mature aesthetic.
Interesting video Nick. I also had to make the choice of 2S or GTS. Went with the 2S and am loving it. PASM -10 still needs some care, a further -10, plus longer overhang would definitely require a lot of caution and the $A6k front lift option in Sydney. That doesn't make for a relaxed daily driver. I was also a little sceptical about the alcantara and the dull look of the satin black centre locks. The RS Spyder wheels take a little more effort to clean but look great when you do. Overall, although you get a discount with the options in GTS pack, in my case it offered a number of options I was not fussed about. The S with PDK and sport chrono is way fast enough for my licence. Love your channel!
I really love how you remind people that your opinions are just that your opinions and everyone’s vary! I love the GTS but as you said it’s not for everyone. Great review thanks! Rick
Nick I had a pied French Bulldog similar to yours. Unfortunately she passed away and the breeder retired. I'm in Rhode island do your have the breeders info to share? Thank you, Ryan
Though the power difference is only about 7 percent between the GTS and S, there would be more to be gained with a software tune (On the GTS) due to the larger turbos being able to flow more on the top end.
Not sure if anyone asked this yet but the first thing that came to my mind was: has the GTS even been broken in yet? The second thought was that the driver of the GTS appears to not be very comfortable driving a three pedal manual.
Great review. I’m still a bit confused on which 991.2 models have wider rear ends. GTS yes. Not the C2S or 4S? Finally, for the money, I’m interested in missing the largest turbo swap possible in stock location. Does this mean the Carrera T is the car for me? Minus the wide rear end? But then need AP Racing brakes. Sooo..maybe GTS or C2S after all?
I wonder how much the four-wheel drive system contributes to to the base car performance ? Putting all that power through four wheels instead of two kinda makes sense.
Nick, do you think the glass roof works with lighter colors like Miami Blue? I’m not sure I like the contrast as it distracts from the basic 911 shape.
Hi Nick, there is one thing, that should be kept in mind. There have been dyno-tested several stock GTS and Carerra S in germany and the Carrera S had a range from 423 hp to about 440 hp. The GTS had a range from 451-476 hp. All cars were completely stock! So if you compared a good Carrera S at the top of the range with a GTS at lower range, it is no suprise at all what happened. So this only makes sense if you dyno-check the cars before testing. My GTS - also a manual -for ex. had measured 469 hp stock. And by the way after some little adjustments (exhaust + air filter) it now has 492 PS. :-)
The thing I like most about these videos are how ppl spec or just buy an existing 911. It amazes me how one car can be so many different ways. I don’t think Nick would like the options I’d pick at all.😂
What? This guy sold his Mercedes-AMG GT S to buy a 911 GTS. It does pay to do your homework before you buy a car which is right for you. Otherwise, it will be, buy trade-in, buy trade-in. Again, the 911 GTS is a matter of personal choice. You need to weigh up whether it's worth paying the extra cost. I think you cannot go wrong if you buy any 911 CS/C4S with the options you want. Nick, you were being very nice about this car, it seems you held back just a little. Tell us how you really hate anything alcantara, middle twin sport exhausts, GT3 front bumper bar, GTS side logo, wheels, engine sound, turbo lag etc. Ohhhhh hang on, I think you kinda did.
The dude can't even find a gear, I don't think he's too clued up on cars, he probably just buys whatever catches his eye without even looking at the specs.
I'm still not getting the idea of the GTS from level. So until yet, all I know is that you get a slight power upgrade, slightly lower to the ground, more sport focused design, and a lot of payed-options that you get for free in the GTS. Right?
Great fun! I have never considered that my 4S would be faster than a Gts. I wonder if the 4S with the double clutch woul does better because it would eliminate the “time lost” in switching gears. I also agree with Nick-the base 12:53 Carrera. the most fun in sudden acceleration is the base. Nick give us a review of the hybrid 911. Can wait to drive test one of them.
Good video nick , currently have a gts on order and would appreciate you're opinion on the difference between 20mm/10mm suspensions ride quality? Thanks in advance
I am absolutely delighted with my 10 week old GTS in GT silver. With a GTS you still need to order a custom build though and I find the long wait really tries my patience. I use mine every day so I have PASM -10mm rather than S-PASM -20mm. I have black leather with 18-way seats in place of the 4-way alcantara that come as standard. I have a torque wrench and break bar kit in a nice neat case that fits perfectly in the trunk; I bought it on Amazon. My options added 21 percent to the price and include adaptive cruise and blind spot monitoring, front axle left, glass sunroof, PDK, multi function steering wheel, keyless entry and drive and rear wheel steering. I also have power steering plus, folding mirrors (I set them to turn in when the car is locked so I can tell at a glance if it's locked) rear wiper and comfort lighting. I also added some purely cosmetic bits including brushed aluminium trim, silver belts, aluminium PDK shifter, crests on the seat backs and stainless door sills because the standard ones are too short. I left the GTS logo on the doors and the rear end but it does look a little busy and had I ordered a 4 GTS I would likely have trimmed it back to just 911. If I was ordering it today I would add ventilated seats.
Great Video Nick. Miami Blue in photos looks either light blue or even a shade of green in others. Does the video represent the colour accurately? Thinking about a Carrera T in Miami Blue but cant find a 911 in the colour to see in person.
I don't know if the GTS is properly broken in yet. Does it even have 2000 miles on it as per Porsche manual of when the car mileage wise might be broken in more. In addition, I wonder if it's a driver issue too. Seems like the GTS drive has a slight pause between shifts. I'm wondering if your buddy put on more miles on his GTS and ran with yours again, would it be a slightly different story. Perhaps I'm giving the GTS owner the benefit of doubt.
Great review. I’m still a bit confused on which 991.2 models have wider rear ends. GTS yes. Not the C2S or 4S? Another good review Nick, I am a fan of the GTS after having the 991.1 4 GTS and the 991.2 Targa GTS but I can understand your comments on the power is marginally noticeable. I currently own the 991.2 Turbo S which is incredible
@@NickMurray thanks mate I actually prefer the more traditional interior of the 991.2 only thing the 992 has going for it is the really incredible top end. Not sure if the 991.2 is the same, but those 992s really fly between 5,500 and 7000 RPM
John G also I'm thinking of a AMG gtr but is it really a gas guzzler like they say want to do a vacation take off need to know if to bring gas with me just in case no gas station
Nick, nice job with pointing out the differences between the S/4S and GTS models. If you were in the market for a 911 Turbo/Turbo S, which one would you recommend? Thanks
I personally prefer the Turbo over the Turbo S, just because it is more fun to drive, on US road, if I lived where it could be opened up then the S is the one.
Yes a few people have had to have both turbos replaced because of the lubrication issue and few people have had the oil pan gasket also go, seems related, as also only on the power kit engine.
It could also be possible that your C4S just has a "healthier" engine than most other C4S's? How many miles has that GTS done? Could still be a bit tight.. Great review though! keep em coming!
Is such a low mileage standard in expensive-car warranties? 50k isn't a lot (nor is 4 years, frankly). That doesn't bode well for anticipated reliability on an older or higher mileage car.
Very enlightening. I do not think you'll ever tempt someone out of buying a gts, but I expected more and what was up with that shifting and letting go of the gas in the gts? It's an auto. No need to release the gas when you shift (it was an auto, right?)
Dbn Poldermans It was a manual, you could see it when Nick was driving it in the beginning. The Gts driver was clearly not good (or as good as Nick, should I say), because the Gts is lighter and makes more power and torque. Nicks 911 has no advantage, except for him driving it. If the Gts had the Pdk, it would have left Nick for dead. You could see how the Gts pulls hard on the start of the race and slows down so much during each shift.
Nick you make a great point on the size of the turbos and responsiveness vs power. As enthusiasts, we’d like both....but as you’ve mentioned elsewhere, the output of the 911s (up and down the range) is enough-to-more-than-enough. So, I’d wager the base motor would be my favorite too.....if only it came in a manual! Keep up the good work!
I would now any day get a powerkit on a regular S than buy a GTS.. why? I get to keep the regular ride height and standard nose with a better approach angle. The GTS would keep scraping underneath ... and it has those silly centre lock wheels
Hi Nick, there appears to be quite a few manuals in the 911 line up now. I think it would be really interesting to do a comparison between the 911 T, 911 GTS and 911 GT3 Touring. They later two are not so dissimilar in price and the 911 T uses the base 911 engine which as you say is really good and powerful enough in the real world.
Very interesting outcome Nick!! I tried doing the same kind of video here in the Uk between my lightweight 964 and a 997S.. they were close but no way I can put it on youtube..would probably be arrested.. we just don't have traffic-less dual carriageways here.. it's a nightmare of cars everywhere. You think theres a tiny gap and then a Polo pops up to spoil it. Great vid, really interesting result..
Anything you may consider in performance comparisons has been thought about by Porsche a thousand times. There 911 variants are stacked for a reason: to create performance variance from model to model. The GT3 runs Nurburgring in 7.13; the GTS in 7.23; and the Carrera S in 7.34. Yes, they are all highly capable super cars, but there is performance variance. The GTS and Carrera S times cited were achieved by the same test driver.
Nick great vid thank you! This is the decision I'm thinking right now except I'd be looking at 991's - I tend to think the outcome would be the same with the n/a engine after seeing this - what would you say? I know it's guessing but...?
Are you sure they were giving you thumbs up and not showing a middle finger saying "stop driving like you own the road bellend!"?
Either way... a middle finger is 'you are number 1"
As Seinfeld says, it's one finger away from a thumbs up

Osama GG with the time it takes him to shift i still dont think hell win in a drag race lol
pfft no problem with the center lock. Mine came with an adapter and the center lock is sexy
But the GTS gives you bigger rear wheel arch, isn't it?
Hey Nick, we should meet up when spring comes and race our cars :) If you got spanked by the GTS (Merc) then it should be closer with my car
You are on. : )
Deal
fuck yeah people will love to see these 2 youtubers collide :D
Where is that race?
Did this ever happen?
Nick I had a pied French Bulldog similar to yours. Unfortunately she passed away and the breeder retired. I'm in Rhode island do your have the breeders info to share? Thank you, Ryan
Great video Nick, those who have struggled between the C4S & GTS (first world problems I know) will find this video helpful.
Pretty much my dream GTS spec, only thing I would add is the carbon ceramic brakes
Talk about a knee jerk reaction... Went out and bought it that week?? At least I waited over a month!!🤣
Porsche roadside can't center lock wheels off?
I was hoping you could share the difference between this and performante.
Though the power difference is only about 7 percent between the GTS and S, there would be more to be gained with a software tune (On the GTS) due to the larger turbos being able to flow more on the top end.
Hey Nick, I love your conclusion about the carrera being more fun to drive than the carrera S, do you think this is valid for the 997.2 911?
No I think the 997.2 S is the one!
Thanks!
"..ketchup all over a sirloin steak" - Best line ever lol!
I know an orange orangutan in a big white house that likes ketchup on his sirloin lol
what's the difference between the c4s and the c4 gts
Just got my all black 991.2 GTS RWD Coupe PDK. Love it :-)
Nick, do you think the glass roof works with lighter colors like Miami Blue?
Why not just use the cell phone bluetooth feature?
The thing I like most about these videos are how ppl spec or just buy an existing 911. It amazes me how one car can be so many different ways. I don’t think Nick would like the options I’d pick at all.😂
Pity it costs $290k in Australia. And probably NZ also.
Ohhhhh hang on, I think you kinda did.
when you can afford an AMG, the trade-in discount is chum change :-)
The dude can't even find a gear, I don't think he's too clued up on cars, he probably just buys whatever catches his eye without even looking at the specs.
I'm still not getting the idea of the GTS from level. So until yet, all I know is that you get a slight power upgrade, slightly lower to the ground, more sport focused design, and a lot of payed-options that you get for free in the GTS. Right?
Sang Eeth, correct. it's a fully performance loaded S including the power options. I would save for a Turbo.
Nick when are fitting an aftermarket exhaust your car needs it
Hey Nick, what is the ride quality and road noise of the GTS v the 997.1 like. Thanks Man.
Vented seats are priceless during the summer months, especially on dark colored cars with dark interior.
Do the drag race both in PDK and that gts pulls away
Great Video Nick. Miami Blue in photos looks either light blue or even a shade of green in others. Does the video represent the colour accurately? Thinking about a Carrera T in Miami Blue but cant find a 911 in the colour to see in person.
why no review on 992?
Not a fan of the gts. I'd go for a Carrera s rwd or gt3. The gt3 is the one to get in the entire 911 range
Problem is the GT3 is basically impossible to get. At asking price.
I'm not sure that's true but if it is I'd just wait. I'd never pay over sticker for a car. That's just pissing money away
So the 4S is as wide as the GTS in the rear end?
Can’t wait to see you review the 911T, Nick. With buckets and brakes, it’s probably the second best car Porsche make.
Nick Porsche has a center lock torque wrench that can fit in the front trunk
Great review. I’m still a bit confused on which 991.2 models have wider rear ends. GTS yes. Not the C2S or 4S? Finally, for the money, I’m interested in installing the largest turbo swap possible in stock location. Does this mean the Carrera T is the car for me? Minus the wide rear end? But then need AP Racing brakes. Sooo..maybe GTS or C2S after all?
Another good review Nick, I am a fan of the GTS after having the 991.1 4 GTS and the 991.2 Targa GTS but I can understand your comments on the power is marginally noticeable. I currently own the 991.2 Turbo S which is incredible
How much faster would a 992 C4S (or C2S) be?
Only slightly
@@NickMurray thanks mate I actually prefer the more traditional interior of the 991.2 only thing the 992 has going for it is the really incredible top end. Not sure if the 991.2 is the same, but those 992s really fly between 5,500 and 7000 RPM
I presume it's a new car, so the engine has still not broken in yet. Could explain it
Better clean those radiator vents from leaves. So many 996, 997 and Boxter/Caymans have issues overtime from all that crud blocking the radiators.
I have a 997 4s please if you can do a comparison of your car and the 997 4s would be amazing .
Can't the guy in the gts shift a manual?
You out shifted him sir. and what gear did he start in?
So the results of the drag race were that they were Nick and Nick? What about the cars???
Nick - Does the GTS really get 20mpg highway or is that typo in the video?
Do you have any exterior or interior detailing done on your 911?
How are the white gauges? Are they easy to read?
Nice job in this one. I'm about to purchase a new 911 GTS Cabriolet , in Miami blue. Love the car.
John G hows the ground clearance compare to a base Carrera
John G also I'm thinking of a AMG gtr but is it really a gas guzzler like they say want to do a vacation take off need to know if to bring gas with me just in case no gas station
Nick, nice job with pointing out the differences between the S/4S and GTS models. If you were in the market for a 911 Turbo/Turbo S, which one would you recommend? Thanks
I personally prefer the Turbo over the Turbo S, just because it is more fun to drive, on US road, if I lived where it could be opened up then the S is the one.
hey nick,
here anything further about issues with the larger turbos on the GTS?
Yes a few people have had to have both turbos replaced because of the lubrication issue and few people have had the oil pan gasket also go, seems related, as also only on the power kit engine.
It could also be possible that your C4S just has a "healthier" engine than most other C4S's? How many miles has that GTS done? Could still be a bit tight.. Great review though! keep em coming!
Scott Cowan I think the driver was a bit tight.
Dbn Poldermans
It was a manual, you could see it when Nick was driving it in the beginning.
NIck! Much better shifting than last time, I'm proud of you!
Is it just me or does the rear drivers side wheel look like it has some nasty curb scratches on it???
Right about 9:45
Nick you make a great point on the size of the turbos and responsiveness vs power.
Nick, that super wide angle gopro lens is awful in filming the car details. So much distortion. PLEASE use your dslr next time.
Yes the gimbal for the DSLR was out getting serviced, so it was a one time issue
İn the 2nd drag race im pretty sure the gts started in 1st gear whereas nick was in 2nd utilizing the tork downlow and avoiding an extra shift ;)
dear nick,
i want to buy a 991.2 S or 992 s 2WD
what is the difference in driving ?
Very little difference.
@@NickMurray and steering ?
Hi Nick, there appears to be quite a few manuals in the 911 line up now. I think it would be really interesting to do a comparison between the 911 T, 911 GTS and 911 GT3 Touring. They later two are not so dissimilar in price and the 911 T uses the base 911 engine which as you say is really good and powerful enough in the real world.
I think the GTS and GT3 are quite dissimilar, the T and the GTS are closer.
Agree with your comments on the GTS!
I don't understand what your point is? Everyone agrees that GTS is a model up from the S and a model down from the GT3?
Nick great vid thank you! This is the decision I'm thinking right now except I'd be looking at 991's - I tend to think the outcome would be the same with the n/a engine after seeing this - what would you say? I know it's guessing but...?
The question for me is.... was it worth the trade-in? After seeing your both reviews you did, i would say absolutely not.
I love that color!
Centre locks are an absolute load of bollocks I had them on my 991.1GTS. They also go milky and cost £1k a set to replace. AVOID!
