They are franchises. Somebody paid for the honour of having that name. Way overpriced but good grief you could get a really good meal for less than 20 quid elsewhere
By a magic coincidence, I ate at Cote, Cardiff this past Monday. I merely glanced at the Xmas 'special' and went for the standard 2 or 3 course lunch offering (which I have had before) - as you said £21.95 for 3 (£17.95 for 2). By yet another coincidence the guy sat at the table next too me just had a single course which was EXACTLY the same as my main and little difference in price from a 2-courser. The Xmas offerings are essentially just a means to charge more for less. And if my dear dad was still alive he would have been in horror at that turkey which reminded me of his reaction when somat similar was served up for our Xmas day nosh in Bath some years ago. Thank you for 'taking one for the team' :D
I worked at a Cote years ago. Their Christmas menu like their other dishes is mostly comes frozen and reheated in a Rational. Turkey is pre cooked and frozen same with the roast potatoes. Cote is a copy of Cafe Rouge. Cote managed to survive for some reason where as Cafe rouge has nearly closed everywhere and replaced with Banana Tree.
@GreenoEats Yeah they focus on profit over quality. Their Thyme Juse comes in frozen little packets, same with their desserts. I remember they wanted food quickly to be delivered to tables so they can get more seats when busy.

Well that mains plate of food looked like a very unpleasant experience. The meal looked completely processed. We had someone in the comments who used to work there, who confirms everything is made off-site and reheated on-site - bit disappointing when you're paying that kind of money!
They certainly know how to charge in their, looking at the top and bottom of that menu, an alcoholic drink, beginning and end another £20+ could be added to an already inflated very iffy meal! Dread to think what a bottle of wine costs! Nice place to steer clear of! Taking one for the team again Greeno! Good on yer!

Hello & Good morning Greeno, I watched this video last night. Then had to lay down in a darkened room and wish it Easter 🐰🐇🥚From the sweet cheese nearly on toast to the non-praline, praline pudding. I shudder at the memory. As the late Neil Innes said " I have suffered for my art now it's your turn 🙄😱😳" I am convinced that the cushions are not to ease the aching bones but to bury your head in 😱😳Honestly, when I saw the gravy sloshed over the plate, Julie Walters, two soups came to mind 🥣🥣🥄🥄On looks alone, somethings may past the first glance test 👍😊🥄😜then sadly you ate some of it. 🥵🤮😜🙊🫢Thank you for taking one for the team, it means a lot to us. Apart from the wilted grass cuttings, the plate was crying out for the Green. If only the one invented by Sir Percy 😅😅😅 See you in the next video, all things being equal. Allan&Family
So sweet cheese (it was a brulée so I would expect a "burnt sugar" crisp), followed by underwhelming (and unappealing to the eye) Turkey and then to add insult to injury a non-chocolatey chocolate tart that isn't a tart. But apart from that, the perfect Christmas dinner!! Oh dear!
Hope Santa🎅🎅 is good to you on next restaurant video. No more coal in your stocking . It will only get better. 👍 Happy Holidays ! 🎄🎄 to you and your family from Jim and Harriet from Richmond, VA.
It is apparently a common thing, give it a French name and like most French food it is a disaster. You are a gent, I would never have given those marks, it all looked a rip off, poor food supplied by the chain masters!! Well done Greeno!
I used a Cote in the City of London last week and complained about my mussels so they replaced it with a `Steak and chips which they didn't charge me for! - good food and great service.
Interesting - well I didn't get quite so lucky - I complained about the "confit potatoes" (hash browns) and was told they were fine, because the waitress had some in a bagutte for her breakfast!!

Compared to the feast I knocked up at Greeno Towers, this meal at Cote was an outrage! I get what you mean about the Christmas lunch when you’re the one to cook it. After spending all those hours slaving over a hot stove, everyone else is a lot more excited to eat it than you are!
Super expensive. I know 2 or 3 places, near me in London, that do 3 courses for 22 quid, and it's actually nice. I think I saw one place do 3 for 17.99, but I may have been dreaming at the time 😂😅 great video, and your truly wonderful as a host.
Hi Greeno, sometimes those type of places just try too hard to make a pretty plate of food and the flavours suffer as a result. I agree with the potatoes, why rectangular? Plain roast tatties with some garlic, thyme, olive oil, salt and pepper, also those were pigs might fly in blankets, full sized sausage with a skiff of bacon on, poorly made and burnt too! I'd score that meal a 6/10 if I'm honest! Good honest review as usual! Nice one!👍👏👏♥️🏴

Thank you Greeno, starter ok, main course and ok and I don't do desserts. But I would not have been happy to pay for what you got!! Personally, I do Duck, Goose or Ham for Xmas as they have more flavour. Regards to the family from Cyprus. 👍👍🤗🤗🙋♀🙋♀
It was way overpriced for food that I believe was prepared offsite and just reheated in the kitchen. We always cook a ham on Xmas Eve, it’s great to have hot in some bread rolls in the evening, and warmed in some stock with the Xmas lunch. Then cold for Boxing Day. Yum!
I doubt the big chains do, although they should (not just mine but all food reviewers of course!) I wish you a Merry Christmas too, from all at Greeno Towers 🙂
You can get a whole Christmas Dinner for four at our local grocery store near us for less! You order it the day before and pick it up Christmas day. Including a whole roast Turkey or Ham. Rip off!
To be honest I always preferred a decent chipolata sausage like we had in the seventies. There was always plenty of bacon on top of the turkey! Very much a works canteen Christmas dinner!
I reviewed the Vivo Lounge in Dorchester not so long ago - might be a bit soon to do another Lounge review. I will have a look though, maybe one for the list next year!!
@@GreenoEats hot camembert topped with honey is common over here. The crème brulée seemed different to me as I was thinking of a 'crème brulée with camembert' thing. allthough it exists it both ways : 'camembert à la façon crème brulée' wich is the hot camembert with caramelized white sugar on top as yours seemed to be... but I also stumbled on a 'crème brulée with camembert' recipe. Anyway I'll keep you posted.
that cheese dish sounds like some baked brie dishes. they SOUND good, but for me usually fall flat, as super sweet masking the cheese. and a Jus, that's thick? that's not a jus! Wonder if they left it on a pot and it over reduced. Ice crystals in the desert is really telling too! totally a sign they have mass amounts stored in the freezer and probably just nuke in a microwave to thaw it out. and they couldn't even do that right! the most appetizing thing you had sounded like that drink! not enough berry drinks embrace the true tanginess most berries can have, and instead just go overboard on sugar
No wonder that the Cote near me in Godalming Surrey, closed months ago and it's an area where there are many and diverse food offerings bar Maccies Nandos etc. That expensive 3 course meal was nothing like Christmas food and yes, a high price to pay for disappointment.😢 Still...onward and upward. There's a LOUNGERS coming to town here in the NY. Open early till late. I wonder if you could review one of those nearer your area so we know what we're in for. A trick or a treat? I'm sure you'll give a fair appraisal as usual. Thanks for doing this so we don't have to... that is, lose money on substandard meals.
My wife and her friends for over 30 years now used to eat a lot at Cote, but have now vowed never to go again. So disappointed with the quality of food altogether.

Thanks for noticing the subs ticking upward - still hoping to get to 20k by the end of the year! I am 100% sure your Christmas dinner will be better than this!!
I ❤ praline too so would be bitterly disappointed were that flavour not to come through in the dessert. My favourite chocolate brand is Neuhaus because they specialise in praline. Have you tried their chocolates, Greeno? There is a branch in Covent Garden. Pricey, but might make a nice Christmas or Valentine's gift for Mrs Greeno and their customer service is friendlier and superior to that of Godiva nearby.
@GreenoEats you're very welcome. I have a Neuhaus sub which entitles me to little freebies including preview bites and a pick n mix box of chocolates on my birthday! 😻
Was the waitress Julie Walter’s from the two soups sketch🤣Yikes, that dinner looked horrible. £37 for burnt frozen food, what an absolute bloody rip off. Makes Toby carvery look like fine dining.
Our Cote Resteraunt in Sloan Square in Central London is always excellent including the service , as well as the one off Kensington High street , I’m surprised your meal was so bad 😮
It's one of the reasons that the roast dinner became popular, 1 smallish piece of meat could feed a lot of people, with enough spuds and veg covered in gravy!
That was SO not worth the money. Anyway, I've decided to take a shot of Scotch every time you rub your hands together in a video. I reckon I'll be an alcoholic by Christmas ..... hic, burp, belch. Merry Christmas.
Hi Greeno hope your well and your lovely family. Sounds good. Let's wait and see eh. Staff seem good. Starter 3/5 Sorry main course not to sure about. Dessert will give that3/5.. Not really impressed Greeno. 😊🎉🎉.
Disappointing for the money. Why is it so hard to get a decent freshly cooked meal for reasonable money in the UK compared to other European countries?
If it was freshly cooked, and really tasty then I could justify it… but this was clearly all produced off site and reheated in the restaurant. Just an expensive ready meal!
Right then folks, time for another Festive Episode! Let me know if you would have been happy with this...
I have to say this was really very disappointing, I expected better at this price point!!

@@GreenoEatsGreeno loses 10k subs for his spelling Hopeful🤦🏻♂️
@@MikePaton-Williams-yv9qo I was actually aiming for hopefully, missed the y clearly 🙂
@ Missing the Y. An existential question😎
Very generous with 2.5
Perhaps over-generous in retrospect!
Yum!
@@GreenoEats AGREED!
I love Baked Brie ❤
Baked camambert for me, brie in breadcrumbs and deep fried :-)
Sorry for skipping through some of the stream but i could see what was coming lol. Great stream keep them coming another Christmas rip off.
No worries, yep, this one was a bit of a stinker given the price paid.
Very good sir, cheers from Canada !!
It was an absolute disgrace of a meal, it really was!
Damn what a shame does these restaurants ever what your videos I hope so 😂😂 merry Christmas to you and your family. From. Down under
I doubt the big chains do, although they should (not just mine but all food reviewers of course!) I wish you a Merry Christmas too, from all at Greeno Towers 🙂
You can get a whole Christmas Dinner for four at our local grocery store near us for less! You order it the day before and pick it up Christmas day. Including a whole roast Turkey or Ham. Rip off!
It was anexpensive error this place!
A bakeable Camenbert is 2.75 in Aldi
Sounds decent value
All Camembert are “bakeable”.
I love Toby!
I've had mixed experiences with them to be fair
To be honest I always preferred a decent chipolata sausage like we had in the seventies. There was always plenty of bacon on top of the turkey! Very much a works canteen Christmas dinner!
I used chipolatas from our local butchers and wrap in pancetta, so much better!!
Great watch! You should do a review on Nautico lounge in Weymouth Christmas menu ☺️
I reviewed the Vivo Lounge in Dorchester not so long ago - might be a bit soon to do another Lounge review. I will have a look though, maybe one for the list next year!!
Thank Christ no one does Xmas like Cote. At least that bit was true.
Indeed so !
never seen / tasted that Camembert 'crème brulée' thing. Gotta try that at home once, seems good to me.
Don’t do it with cheap, white sugar, use honey at least.
Excellent Thumbnail
Ooo bit pricey init
Excellent upload
Way too pricey David!!
@GreenoEats definitely 😁
that cheese dish sounds like some baked brie dishes. they SOUND good, but for me usually fall flat, as super sweet masking the cheese.
and a Jus, that's thick? that's not a jus!
Yep, I agree, the drink was just about the best part of the meal! Really disappointing from start to finish!
Do you mean one of these? ruclips.net/video/Fh7I5z3Wej0/видео.htmlsi=p03dNq_Fu6KK4kWz
My wife and her friends for over 30 years now used to eat a lot at Cote, but have now vowed never to go again. So disappointed with the quality of food altogether.
This was dreadful. Seems like another chain that have decided the best way to maximise profits is to cut corners on quality.
Hi Greeno you really didn't like the icicles in your ice cream , I agree it would ruin it . Have a good day 🐸
Yep - really annoying that!
We had the Xmas menu (office party) at Côte at Hays Galleria in London and it was very good. They need better chefs in Dorchester !!
Perhaos so - although I got the impression with a lots of the stuff here that the chef's first name could be Mike, surname Rowave!
2.5? Greeno you're going soft! 😅
Well it is Christmas after all ha ha
Subscribers have gone up to 19k since this morning; I enjoy Greeno's videos and I like his laugh. Nice to see a glimpse of Mrs. Greeno as well. I am very much looking forward to my Christmas dinner, despite my dodgy cooking I'm sure I can do better than the Côte. All the best - Tania and Chirpy Pigeon xxx
Thanks for noticing the subs ticking upward - still hoping to get to 20k by the end of the year! I am 100% sure your Christmas dinner will be better than this!!
19,000 subs!!! Superb mate! 20 days to get another 1,000 before 2025 👊🏼
yep - 50 a day :-)
At Christmas everybody becomes a tourist as regards Christmas menus.
As in they can be ripped off?
Happy 19k🎉
Vielen Dank Jessi!
19k!!!,getting close to the 20k!!!
It's getting closer isn't it ! Hopefully before the year is out :-)
I ❤ praline too so would be bitterly disappointed were that flavour not to come through in the dessert.
Not tried them, so thanks for the tip 🙂
@GreenoEats you're very welcome. I have a Neuhaus sub which entitles me to little freebies including preview bites and a pick n mix box of chocolates on my birthday! 😻
The edges on the potatoes should help in getting them crisp.
True, i was very surprised to find they were basically just hash browns though.
That turkey is a pre prepared frozen from any supermarket and the carrots are tinned, what a rip off
It was very poor for the price paid!!
Ridiculous price for that meal 👍👍🏴
You're absolutely right!
To be candid, I thought that meal was not worth more than £20 tops😅
A very expensive ready meal basically!
It’s a great business when you can get a cook, rather than a chef and charge high end prices.
The real trick is how to entice customers to return.
Well they failed to impress me enough to want to return!
Was the waitress Julie Walter’s from the two soups sketch🤣Yikes, that dinner looked horrible. £37 for burnt frozen food, what an absolute bloody rip off. Makes Toby carvery look like fine dining.
Haha - true enough. I might even do the Toby Christmas menu for comparison purposes!!
We had cote here in godalming but after. Ibelive three years they closed down I had been in there the breakfast was very small for to much money
Interesting - I would have thought Godalming is a place they would think they would do well !!
That Christmas dinner was very beige xx
Yep, almost exclusively beige!
Our Cote Resteraunt in Sloan Square in Central London is always excellent including the service , as well as the one off Kensington High street , I’m surprised your meal was so bad 😮
Well I am glad you have a better experience there than I did :-)
i dont understand why places skimp on veg - its cheap and healthy - should be half the plate
It's one of the reasons that the roast dinner became popular, 1 smallish piece of meat could feed a lot of people, with enough spuds and veg covered in gravy!
@@GreenoEats couldnt agree more
That's crazy they only have baby carrots for vegetables ❤
And so few of them, given they were so tiny!
Was that Mrs. Greeno's reflection I saw the mirror?😀
Yep - she was doing the filming, and obviously wasn't paying attention to the mirro at that point haha!!
@@GreenoEats She's a pretty lady
@@JodeanCarlson She is indeed 🙂
That was SO not worth the money.
Anyway, I've decided to take a shot of Scotch every time you rub your hands together in a video. I reckon I'll be an alcoholic by Christmas ..... hic, burp, belch.
Merry Christmas.
If I do it often enough you'll be too drunk to notice any more haha!!
@@GreenoEats Er, what did you shay? I was just opening another bottle of shc .... shoch .... scosh ..... erm, whisky.
@@gary1961 🤣🤣🤣
This is a great review for other gelled up tattooed chavs that are trying to get a cheap Christmas meal! Keep it up, Greeno!
Hang on, does that make me a gelled up tattooed chav? 🤣
Very generous marking
You might be right in retrospect.
What a tragically accurate review. Better luck next time 😀
Tragically accurate, I like that!
Hi Greeno hope your well and your lovely family.
Sounds good.
Let's wait and see eh.
Staff seem good.
Starter 3/5
Sorry main course not to sure about.
Dessert will give that3/5..
Not really impressed Greeno.
😊🎉🎉.
Yes, I wasn't impressed either Ann!!
Greeno 19k subs!! 🚀 Chanel is booming!! 👊 in regards to this place….. yep I will pass!! Top review as always pal ….Smithy
Cheers Smithy, just got in from watching Shed Seven, voice wrecked, ears wrecked, Greeno not wrecked though as I was driving lol
@ 😂 hope you had a great time Greeno!!
I feel your pain having to shell out for overpriced tosh, but a great vlog as always.
Such is the lot of the food reviewer, rough with the smooth (although this Christmas food seems to be a lot of rough!)
Disappointing for the money. Why is it so hard to get a decent freshly cooked meal for reasonable money in the UK compared to other European countries?
It's maddening isn't it - we need to support our independents more perhaps!
£45.00!!!! They should be bloody ashamed! Daylight robbery 😂🎉
If it was freshly cooked, and really tasty then I could justify it… but this was clearly all produced off site and reheated in the restaurant. Just an expensive ready meal!
@GreenoEats even more so being overcharged for what ut was !
