In this video I took my game. A Simple Survey, and transformed it into a very difficult game. This was quite a process to take an easy game, and turn it into a hard one, but I'm very happy with the end product.
The game has around 10 unique endings, and many little side paths to give the game some spice. I've also programmed in quite a few secrets, so please feel free to use this game as your sandbox. Let me know if you like these kinds of videos/challenges.
About me:
Hey, I'm BenBonk, an indie game developer who uses the Unity Engine. I've made and released many small games before on my itch page, though now I'm attempting to make my first commercial game, Slimekeep. Slimekeep is a roguelike, using a very limited color palette, similar to Enter the Gungeon, though with a few interesting mechanics, such as keeping slimes alive longer will earn you more money, and the ability to capture slimes to power up your slime pet. Yeah, it's cool but I personally prefer Roblox. I prefer the blocky theme and physics, I'm not very interested in modern high-quality graphics stuff.

If you see this, BenBonk, I was playing the game, and when I got to the ball number selection part (choices: 18, 9, 18, 14), it wouldn't let me choose an answer. It triggered the button animation, but no scene/narration happened.
That's really odd. I've been having a bit of trouble with that scene, but I thought it was fixed. Did you happen to use the skip button a lot on your run/on that particular scene?
Update, I spent like an hour trying to fix this, and I'm like 90% sure I fixed the issue.

The game is fun, BUT
it’s annoying when you finally get to the “Hard quiz”, fail, and the have to go through the first questions again. Especially when you have to do the Timer and Memorisation stuff again…

About the lag, I just made a desktop build. Not sure why its so laggy on browser, but let me know if this fixes the issue.

Perhaps the problem isn't that you didn't have a skip feature, but that your players wanted to skip the narrator? There are probably better solutions to this than what the common feedback was.
iirc that previous game had some replayability, but not being able to skip things you've already heard a few times is... bad. So the problem here really was that narrator was artificially slowing down the gameplay even if they aren't saying anything new for the player.
@@TheOnlyPeachmage What I mean to say is that players tend to complain about symptoms, when game designers should focus on causes of those symptoms. Hades is a game that has a ton of repetition and yet the dialog is interesting and unique enough that I haven't needed to skip anything despite playing for dozens of hours. Obviously this isn't feasible for this smaller game, but I'm just throwing out an example to demonstrate that you should always accept player criticism, but not always accept player suggested fixes.

Lol that math problem is actually very simple using l'hospital's rule. you can basically do it all in your head because no math is really required. Since the bottom part has a higher power the answer is 0 if the top had a higher power it would be infinity and if they both are the same its the top coefficient of the highest power / bottom coefficient of the highest point

I think the most perfect type of a difficult game is sort of a simulator where you need to manage a lot of different statistics while concentrating on the gameplay itself and also making minimal possible mistakes. These sort of games require great attention and quick thinking, and also help you advance your skills, which I think is amazing.

Hey ben, i know you probably have no time to read this. but i need a bit of help with the game. i play on an ultra wide monitor, and the game auto full screens itself... I cant only see the start button barely, and i cant exit out of fullscreen. can you or any commenters might help me? i got the game to windowed but i cant minimize it. I have been hearing you shit talk me because im not starting the game for so long
was a bit of fun though was not fun when you have to redo like 6 minutes of shit to try it again. would be nice to have some "retry from start / retry here". like for me I lost at the seafood question. I figure one person likes seafood, 2 people like non-seafood. you can link that the people that like seafood have 2*a's in their name though I guess that wasn't right
with the math one btw what was it? I eventually figured the 5-7-6 was common as they were +1 next to each other, and then if you disregard the 4-4-4, you figure it's the answer of 5,7 (8,2=6), 6/2=3, so 5(8) 6(5) 7(2), but was that the intended solution? did the 4s serve any purpose? and a simple ass 1 square 3x3 soduku bit would be harder than that nonsense? or you meant you wanted to make a full on sodoku board? that woulda been more fun
5:22 the women also was interacting with a non functioning laptop, which could be her trying to fix it, but she's typing on the keyboard which makes no sense. The theif could just be the husband coming back from his outdoors trip, letting her know the front door is locked.
also the guys shirt hasn't been ironed and the top buttons are undone. Plus there's obnoxious text covering the image. all issues in the eyes of the company.
the reaction took like 8+ seconds to come, which I thought was a track - it requires lots of focus to be on the lookout for the flash, and not letting the player focus is rude. even if after you said "go" the flash was 1 second after, you'd still get good results.
5:30 strange you put that in there, it requires some year 12 maths about none of your core audience would have
6:55 I didn't catch this. you could have solved this by after the first fail/restart having some gray text explain how to skip
..yeah nah trying it again it's just a bastard and unfun. you have some tosser nagging you're stupid etc and sure the space skip is ok but doesnt skip the bullshit fast enough. oh well. i guess it wasn't designed to be played more than once. which is a shit idea I guess it turns out.
My tips to make a game hard
Step 1: tell them to travel around the world in less than the time it takes me to order a Big Mac from McDonalds. After they have gone around the world, they must now write a 400 page essay on what you did… upload the video and the text file from the essay and you travelling around the world documentation..
