I always swap around the red and black travellers on the second switch. (The "less logical" way with the travellers crossed.)
This means that the homeowner gets to walk into the house the first time and see all the lights off with all the switches in the down position. It's just a little nice clean touch to make everything look a little more professional (kind of like putting all the faceplate screws in vertical)

I've probably watched a dozen different videos on 3 way switch wiring. Yours is the first I fully understand. Your teaching method is logical and sequential. Not a whole lot of extra talking that distracts from the subject. I appreciate your talent, your concise explanation and demonstrations. Teaching is a gift.

I wish I had RUclips videos like this waaaaay back when I was just a lowly apprentice lol. My journeyman wasn’t the best at explaining new stuff to me and teaching me certain things and this was something I struggled with learning way back when. It’s so simple to me now all these many years later but it’s good to find videos like this that I can share with my apprentices now to help them study when we aren’t in the field. 👍

It's my pleasure Martin! The trick with the switches is to buy Spec Grade. They cost more at first but over the long run they will be much cheeper because they last. Also you get the really nice features such as back wiring and self grounding clips. Have a great weekend!

@@judyjudyjudy9593 It's actually quite simple if you know how something works. In a schematic this looks this way:
      www.talu.de/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/wechselschalter-anschliessen-schaltplan.jpg
The pink strings are the travelling wires, which he connected to the brass terminals of the switches. Black is the unswitched hot, going to the common (black screw) of the first switch. The orange is the switched hot going to the lamp, connected to the black terminal of the second switch. The neutral is in this case blue, in the US it is now required for new installations to also put a neutral into every box, even if it's not required by a standard switch. The green/yellow is the ground.
Now the light on the schematic is actually off, if you press one of the switches the light will turn on.
That's one method to wire it, it's the easiest method and it's the most used method on this planet.

@@Marcel_Germann ......Everything is "quite simple" if you know the facts about it! I have wired 3 houses now & I am quite sure I can do it too! Pink strings? What are pink strings? This explanation that Bill has given is exactly "how" it is done here in the US & what you are saying will only confuse. I am glad that you understand all the details of wiring, Bill makes it clear for us to understand "our way in the US" of doing it!!!! It takes someone like Bill, that understands how to show people "how to" do something, not just someone that starts talking about unknown things!

Nice😁 Whattya think of those wago's? If I don't make a twisted joint myself, I just don't have a good feeling about it. Kind of like wire nuts advising that you don't twist the wires. I get a of lighting issue calls and its mostly un-twisted pairs arcing inside of the wire nut from a bad connection. The directions don't mention that the wires would have to be absolutely perfect with no tension on either side to not have any problems. My edit was a misspelling. I wish RUclips would stop putting up that edited notification

I mentioned this in another comment, but they are excellent products. Once the lever nut is locked in you cannot pull it out without extreme force. These are not like the push in connectors, the locking lever secured the wire very tightly. Stupid easy to use and quick.

In my experience, this is the least common configuration of the three-way switch but you did a great job in explaining the theory of how a three-way switch operates. Not sure why you used the excessively large #12 wire for lights but if I had one piece of advice, it would be to throw away those wago lever nuts. Teach your subscribers how to properly twist the conductors together and install wire nuts. The bulk of my electrical expertise is diagnostics and troubleshooting and I can tell you without a doubt that those 'quick connect' wiring solutions that homeowners find on the shelf at home Depot or other home centers are very prone to failure.
