I met Robert Conrad and his sons in the late 80's. A couple of buddies and I came home right after finishing Basic Training in The Army and went out for the night in Downtown Dallas. He was the Grande Marshal for the parade that year. He ended up buying us green, young soldiers drinks for quit a while that night. He was larger than life!!! He impacted me as a youngster in Wild Wild West and I had the great pleasure of meeting a childhood hero that night. A true legend! God bless you Robert.

What a time to be a kid in the 1960s with shows like (my 2 favorites) Wild Wild West, Mission Impossible, and also “I Spy”, first 2 seasons of “The Man From Uncle” and “It takes a Thief”. They don’t make espionage shows like that any more.

Classy responses to belligerent, tasteless questions.
"The fight sequences were a little hyper speed.... unless you had 12 cups of coffee"... WTF does that even mean?
Bob did his own difficult stunts and was often injured.
Miss you, James West. You were an inspiration.

Robert Conrad had it all going on... he had charisma to spare, and it comes across in this interview. Most importantly, he had a graciousness lacking in a lot of today's celebrities. As he says in the interview, he was never motivated by money. Clearly, he was doing what he loved and that love comes across in The Wild Wild West, a TV show that is still, in many respects, ahead of its time.

The interviewer is misquoting Ross from his appearance on 'The Tonight Show'; when Johnny asked him if he did his own stunts, Ross replied, "No, I do my own acting." - which was meant to be a playful dig at Bob. However, Ross did manage to get in on the stunts from time to time, which once resulted in his leg getting broken during the climax of season 4's "The Night of the Avaricious Actuary".

That's graceful of Conrad not to take issue with Ross Martin's comment that he did the acting and Conrad did the stunts. The most awesome actor did his own stunts. Learned Karate was a black belt, 5 years of boxing during the series Hawaiian Eye. Wild Wild West another incredible acting series.

Filled prescriptions at our pharmacy in Arnold Calif for his wife in the late 80s. He had a home in Mt. Reba Bear Valley. Central Sierras. Calaveras county. Would fly up in his plane from Santa Monica condo when he could. Tough guy. From south side Chicago. Pretty short but big wide shoulders. He pumped iron. Got into a lot of fights at the bar in Bear Valley.

"All the acting," eh? Well, let's face it - when you watched this show as a kid, which character did YOU want to be?

Combo of both master of disguises/dialects as well as skilled fighter. Arte was also an engineer/ inventor.

Ross: "I did the acting, Robert did the stunts" I like to believe hes just joking because these two Bob and Ross are close friends.

The interviewer is very lucky to catch Conrad on a good day
To first allude he's not an actor and then to accused the fight scenes were sped up
    Long Live James West
    Rest In Peace Robert Conrad

In 6th grade (65) we were told to do something with plants. My school mate and I wrote a story about my plant being Jim West and my friends plant was Arty. Just for fun ! Our teacher Mr. Mc Mann herd about it and made us read it to the class. We got A's for our grade and Yes our plants defeated Miguelito Loveless :) My idol at the time ! RIP for all !

I'm a big fan of Mr. Conrad's but the Oscar's normally focus on movie personnel, and not those from TV. I think you might want to check to see if he will be included in the Emmy's next year (they aired in July before Conrad's death.)

To me he will always be Jesse Hawks. Wild, Wild West was a bit before my time, and sadly the classics channel doesnt play Wild, Wild West so I've never seen it. I still to this day love his show High Mountain Rangers, and have been looking for it for years on DVD

Between Conrad - and JAMES STACY - I don't BRUCE LANSBURY had many options left of what actor could play his character JIM WEST. STACY had the looks - but I don't think he wanted the role ,due to all the stunts involved. One stunt that went wrong, caused Conrad to land on his head - causing him to be rushed to the hospital .He did all those stunts himself - no stand ins.
