The two best functional upgrades on my JL have been a swayloc swaybar disconnect/upgrade… and at the other end of the price scale… a matte black vinyl hood decal. The first tightened up my suspension on the street while making disconnecting easier than my old manual disconnects… the second made road trips far easier to do as the eye strain from the hood reflections were greatly reduced.
Congratulations Devyn, love the look of tires to lift height. Also like what you said about the desert, I live in Arizona and would love to do some trails in this area….one day maybe 😊. Can’t wait to see more
I love our 2dr JK’s. We now have 2 2013 2dr JK’s(wife , 16yr old daughter). We are now a full family of jeeps. My oldest daughter has a 2015 JKU, son in laws 2023 Gladiator, and my just purchased today 392. And my 1966 CJ-5 Jeep. All in black.
Another easy and inexpensive mod to consider is changing out the old rubber-strap hood latches with the JL hood latches… I put ‘em on my wife’s ‘17 JKUR and they look and work great!
I was just wondering about Devyn and Jordan the other day. Good to see him on the trail with the changes/upgrades to his jeep. Until next time... Travel safe and Merry Christmas.
Congratulations Devyn, your Jeep looks great and you did a very good work on it. I don't know if you are going to swap the fenders, but one year and a half ago, i painted the fenders on my TJ with a special paint for plastic and the final result is large to and I said before, after one year and a half, looks perfect. Thanks for the video and for sharing. By the way, Merry Christmas to all TrailRecon family.
For the faded plastic of my Jeep, I have followed a Forum recommendation of Chemical Guys Back to Black and I am glad I have. One trick is not to use too much of it and expect instant results, as it WILL act over night too and by the next day. I have been using it for over 2 years and very happy with it. It is lasting unless it rains, which will eventually wash it off.
Awesome video!!! Love it when your boys hang out with you!!!! And yes the Desert is beautiful!!! Enjoy.. Rubicon looks fantastic great job!!! Happy Holidays!!!!!!
Devyns jeep looks great! My only critique is the lug nuts. I recommend switching them out for black ones. Also i would get the Black rash guards to protect the lips of the rims.I have some on my JLU with the same rims and love how complete the set up looks.
I don't know, the wheels have raw metal outer exposed nuts, so we kind of think the bare metal lugs work. I know black lugs look good on most wheels though.
That's a sweet Jeep. I would have liked getting one of them steel bumpers to replace the plastic one on our JLU ... But I couldn't find one and went aftermarket. Annnd! Cool that you went 33's. It will be more fun, and now have to depend on driving skills. Doesn't change on road performance much as well. Nice job

Good looking JK. I am all for keeping things practical. I personally love those bumpers (I have them on my 2014 JKUR) and like the way the winch sits low and recessed, like it belongs there. Personally Imay have gone to 35s or 315/70 tires, but I doubt it would have made much of a difference off road. A locker would be high on my list as the next mod, imho lockers are the single most beneficial thing you can do to increase a vehicle's capability. Keep the cool content coming!
Devyn's build is very similar to mine. Yellow 2 door, JL rubicon front bumper, ARB rear bumper, Warn winch, ARB solis spotlights, full Teraflex ST3 3 inch lift with 3.3 adjustable shocks, Teraflex nomad wheels with 35 inch nitro trail grapplers. etc...
We went with 33s on my wife's JK. They are fine for the trails we do. In addition, it's her daily driver so being able to get in and out of it was a concern.
Nice to see you got a Gladiator back on the trail, I have one myself, just a suggestion, Baxter Engineering makes a oil filter adapter for the 3.6 pentastar engine, installed on mine, don't hear the valve train rattle when i start it up after it sits a while, keeps oil at the top of the engine to lubricate the cam and valve train, I am very pleased with it, will be installing a Dorman oil cooler to replace the plastic one on my Gladiator, just a thought you may want to consider this upgrades to the engine
I finally figured out how to change the radio in the Alpine system. You need to have a Idatalink compatible Radio and a Maestro RR unit and you could do everything yourself! Probably would do the whole system while your at it

Devyn, your jeep is really looking great. It is so funny as it's a very similar build I am doing on my 2013 2-door. I know a lot of people love the 35"s and I admit I do too, but on the 2-door with the 2.5" lift, I think the 33" look great as well. Took a similar approach to the bumpers. Went AEV for the front instead as I found one in great shape near me with the winch plate but I also did the Hard Rock rear bumper as well. I have to ask one question, I too have the Mopar/Terraflex rear hinge and spare tire carrier. I used the bottom holes for the studs as indicated by the instructions and think the tire sits a little too low. I see yours is higher. Did you use the top hole? looks like it. Been thinking of moving mine. I was considering the AEV tire carrier that works with the bumper but I am concerned that since it also bolts to the tailgate there is going to be some noise. Others I have talked to that have it have stated it does squeak. Anyway, looks great!!! Looking forward to see what else you do so I can also get ideas. BTW, i need to go over to the website and pickup that rear tailgate table, I like the look of them the most.

This!!! Plus due to being a metal hoop, tey never will stretch out or risk of breaking. Super easy to do and you really do not need to drill out the holes if you just take a little time to work the studs in.
Is it me or the lift seems a bit low for a Jk? The back looks like it rubbed in a few spots, but in general the JK has lower fenders and typically needs a bit more on the lift to clear 35s, more particularly on flex situations.
