Battery powered T lights helped light the way at night, just turn them on and stick them against the wall. If its going to be really cold maybe bring the car battery in so it doesnt freeze.
If you have no heat. We’ve been preparing since the mid eighties, we have our own well with a pitcher pump, canning goods, beans, bullets and bandaids, praying that everyone stays safe and covered under the wing of God, Jesus is watching over us, AMEN
My husband is a plumber- one of his tips- If possible, before snow/ice moves in, if you do not have an accessible shut off to your water inside the house, he suggest placing a 5 gallon bucket or something of that nature over your water meter. Incase a pipe freezes and you have to shut it off at the meter it makes it easier to locate and access.
When living in Washington a state, we had very cold temperatures and snow. I went to Lowe’s, and bought styrofoam, in the thickest measurements, I would cut them to fit the windows. It was amazing how warm it kept the rooms. When winter was over, we placed string crisscross in the ceiling of the garage, and stored these cut pieces, worked perfectly.
Living alone, in all electric home, with an electric pump well and septic. I finally purchased a DuroMax 12,000 watt generator and had my home set-up to power up using the generator. Also, living alone, in the last Texas super freeze, state-wide shut down...I used my small Sterno camping stove to heat up my prep cans of soup and beans. It worked great...just peeled off the paper labels and heated the cans right on the tiny Sterno stove. Since the TX freeze state shutdown, I've purchsed multiple portable solar batteries to run my TV, internet router, bedroom table lamp, electric blanket and laptop computer. I have 5, 5 gallon buckets ready for toilet flushes and a water cooler with 6, 5 gallon water bottles. I just finished prepping everying I think I need and am quite certain I am ready to manage this freeze, unlike the last time...boy...did I learn some lessons. Hope everyone manages to stay warm and as comfortable as possible. Good luck everyone.
West TX here, 18f already. Just an internet tip; Even if you have power at your home, the D-Slam (Junction bo you're connected to within a mile) may not, likewise for cell towers.
Thank you! I've always remembered the "micro climate" with a tent in your bedroom on top of your bed. This is your warm place, or a large closet or small bedroom. I'd love some tips on how to keep pets warm during a power outrage freeze.
I’ve been a handyman for 30 years. In my area, mid-Michigan we have experienced below freezing temperatures for over a week. Driving around my town I see many outdoor hoses still connected to the faucets. These have already mostly likely been damaged. It’s important to disconnect outside hoses even if they are freeze proof faucets. Frost/freeze free faucets cannot work with the hose connected.
Stacking up on moving blankets from Harbor Freight when they are on sale. Good for covering windows, as extra insulation on floors, and for covering your 'heat bubble' indoors. Also for keeping pet areas warm and insulated also. I even carry them in my vehicle for emergencies.
Unplug your valuable electronics such as TVs computers etc. during the power failure. Power flow can be irregular and surges can be damaging when the power comes up. On the same note. Try to turn off as many lights as practical and your electric water heaters if you are not able to use these items because of the outage. Minimizing the draw your house is making on the system will help the utility come back to speed when the power is finally restored.
I have a CO2 alarm and a smoke alarm in the bedroom. I have a Mr. Heater on a 100lb LP tank, a Mr. Heater on a 20lb tank, several camp stoves and fuel that are safe indoors. I also have a stove/heater that runs on Canned Heat and several cans of Canned Heat. I have been Prepping for decades.
God bless you, Patriot Nurse, for taking time to provide us with very valuable information that could possibly save our lives. I'm in Nashville and we got lucky this time. Stay warm over there in East TN. God Bless.
IMO, your first prep, if you only have an hour, is to get to a gas station and fill your vehicle. Your vehicle may turn into the 'bug out location' in your driveway. If you lose power and need heat, start your vehicle and get in to warm up. Depending on roads being not safe to drive on, this may be a vital prep for you.
Smart. Plus, buying a power inverter for your vehicle basically turns it into a generator for your home necessities. Just turn it on every 30-60min to recharge the battery.
i own a plumbing & heating business, simply turning off the water is not enough to keep lines from busting!! you need to hook up a air compressor to the line & blow the water out of the lines & install RV antifreeze into toilets & traps on sinks & showers, yes traps will freeze & bust too!! PN this was a great list most are not ready for any kinda problems let alone problems in cold weather!!
I had wondered about this. Wanted to find out if it's enough to turn the water off and then turn all faucets on until no more water comes out? So, will that not clear pipes enough? I appreciate the advice concerning antifreeze!
I always make sure to fill up some empty milk jugs or juice jugs with water and fill enough jugs to fill both of our bathtubs with those jugs for flushing the toilet, waahing iur hands, making instant coffee by heating water in the fireplace, or using an enamel percolating coffe pot. Thank you Patriot Nurse.
I’m in central Florida so we don’t deal with cold weather outages very often. One thing to prep for prolonged outages is do all your laundry before the power goes out! It’s not usually as bad as they say but it’s always good to be prepared all the time.😊
I survived the Texas storm a few years ago. I Cooked chicken and dumplings the day before and beef stew. I keep a Coleman and butane stove and even purchased them for my adult kids in Austin. I have 2 dogs and a parrot so select your warm place with them in mind. I shut the water off and drained the pipes in advance. Living in a subdivision i filled both bathtubs full of water - key for bathroom needs. I had plenty of drinking water and had the cars full of gas. Remember that batteries use up power at a rapid pace for your electronics. I have a Bluetti with solar panels and i ran a heating blanket on my bed to keep me and the pets warm. I have since moved and have a natural gas powered generator whole house-if you are sick or elderly bite the bulllet and invest in one! I had plenty of warm clothes and blankets and my husband was out of town at the time, so ladies know how to drain your pipes! I had a generator that was gas powered but couldn’t run it-don’t find yourself in this situation-we have hurricanes here just be ready!
Great advice, everyone should take heed! We have lived out in the country for 40 years. We have learned these things by doing early on when we first moved here. Filling the bathtub to have water to the flush toilet and hand washing. We did all those things you mentioned all proved very useful when we went more than a week without power at times. We're setup now with generating power for water, heat, light and even the TV and desktop PC . We can stay here on our own for a longtime if need be.
I've seen several incidents where people had generators and one of two things prevented them from functioning: 1.) they didn't run them once a month and added fuel stabilizer and the carbs were junked up. Very common. 2.) they have a model with an electric start and the battery was dead. ....Edit: I keep a piece of duct tape on my generators and I make a note of the last time I ran them. Time gets away from you and modern gas is junk.
I want to warn people also if the computers go down, you will not get your medication. My husband was in line to pick up my medication. The computer went down and I did not get it for two days. Be mindful of this and make sure you get your medication ahead of time if you cantry to save some so you have it in case of an emergency.
Make sure kids have under shirts or onesies on under reg clothes as soon as power goes out. Even know where extra pair of socks. Pjs work well under or over. Basically layers for littles. Have clothes sitting out where can be found easily.
once your family is squared away, please check any elderly neighbors. They may not have what they need and no ability to run out to prepare. Helping each other will save lives and build relationships.
I just bought a propane heater that uses those small green Coleman propane canisters. I've been buying the canisters over all of 2024. I'm not worried about heating my apartment. And before you say it, I have a carbon monoxide detector.
You’re going to rip through propane with those little canisters. Check out the adapters that go to the larger tanks perhaps. It’s a more affordable option.
A gas grill propane tank is much more cost effective than the Coleman cylinders. An adapter for using one is sold at Lowes/Home Depot etc. We use a Mr. Buddy Heater.
Make sure your dishes and done and laundry done. TAKE A SHOWER AND WASH YOUR HAIR BEFORE POWER GOES OUT. If your prepped put your winter sleeping bag on the bed. Put extra fuzzy socks on, replace batteries in EVERYTHING. put no cook meals on stovetop so they can be found.
If I'm going to be locked in my home because of ice and snow from a horrible blizzard, I want it to be a cabin in the woods... with fire place, soup on the stove and a radio playing slow classical music.
If you run out of pet food during this emergency dogs and cats can also eat cooked chicken and rice. Also dogs can consume cooked eggs. But the best prep is go by a large bag of dog food and put it away with your human food preps
For light in your home nothing beats a decent led camping lantern and extra batteries. I collect old oil lamps yet they'll stay on the shelf if the power goes out. LED lantern are more practical and bright.
Two extra ideas are to bring in buckets of stones and/or jerry cans of water that can be heat "batteries" when it is very cold. Second, close off your living area with blankets and/or foil backed insulation. Putting up a tent in the living room is also a good way to stay warm.
I’m near Owensboro Ky. We have trees and power lines going down as we speak. We have solar battery backup and a generator and with Mr Heater Big Buddies.
I use 45 gal plastic trash cans w/ 55 gal plastic bags. I fill them with water. My Certs: TNCC, ENPC, PALS, ACLS, NRP, CPI, NIH SS. Thank you sister, well done.
Municipal water supplies are pressurized by electric pumps. The pumping facilities _may_ lose power, as well. That is the time to shut your main valve and drain the pipes, especially if your interior temperatures are 45 degrees or below. Easy access for this would usually be the hot water heater drain. It would be a good idea to capture that water as you drain it. Once that is open, also open all of the other faucets. Lastly, put some mouthwash (w/ alcohol) in the toilet bowel to act as an anti-freeze. Otherwise, if you still have city pressure, use the drip method in all faucets that are along an exterior wall. Be well!
Everyone should own a POWER INVERTER for their car. It basically turns your car battery into a generator to power home essentials that can keep being recharged if you have gasoline. Just keep starting the car every 30-60min or so to recharge the battery.
I am so thankful for the preps I had for this recent ice storm. My power was out overnight and it is super cold right now. If I had not been ready for it, I would have been in some serious trouble when the weather deteriorated & travel was not possible. I had 2 "Mr. Buddy" heaters & lots of propane cylinders for them. They don't last long, so one must be aware of this and plan accordingly. I set a timer before I went to sleep so I could change the cylinders as needed. They put out a pretty decent amount of heat and I was not bothered by fumes. My oil lamps, on the other hand, are always kind of stinky & a little bit smokey. One thing about prepping for something like this -- I went to Walmart two days before the storm was expected and the store was worse than it had been at Christmas. Some of the employees were the biggest jerks, but nobody was enjoying that shopping day that I could see. I mostly was nervous about the propane cylinders & wanted to stock up on a few more. I would say what you want to do is "prep" in the best sense of the word: AHEAD OF TIME so you don't have to go to the store with a lot of scared, angry & hateful people. Thinking ahead will help keep you from losing your head. 😉😂🤣
Also, I slept in my clothes so that I would be ready if I had to get up in the night and deal with a heater that had gone cold. Those cylinders are hard enough to screw into the heater even when your hands are not shaking. 🥶 But it is an exercise in futility in a cold room. After that, I adjusted the amount of time between cylinder changes so that I could change them as soon as the heater shut off -- before the room got cold again.
For the oil lamps: Don't use just any kind of oil. Use ONLY Ultra Pure Paraffin Lamp oil. It's sootless, smokeless and odorless. It costs more but it's worth it.
Your notes made me remember the window vent opening and warm zone. 2 points that had slipped my mind. Thanks, and hope the weather doesn’t hit you to bad.
Please remember newer trucks and some cars have a plug in and you can plug in coffee pots, crock pots, etc.. also charge your phone in your car if you don't have a solar bank. Don't forget to get ice salt.
I'm in Southern Illinois setting in the dark with oil lamps burning.I have a gas fireplace keeping me warm.We have water.Thè trees are falling and branches are breaking. Its an ice storm.Thè electricity has been out for a few hours.
Thanks for the list. . .From Lake Orion, Michigan. . . ..excellent checklist! One 'update'. .. water drip. . . depending on temperature, adjust the flow to a 'slow stream' if temps are below 10F. . . .the slow drip might not have enough flow to avoid freezing! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Carry 2 bags of Cat litter (dry clay) in your trunk during winter. If you need more traction to climb a hill or get out of a small ditch, just pour the litter ahead of your needed direction of drive wheels. Now gently press the gas pedal (at first) to gain traction and keep going. Problem solved.
This is a great video!! Thank you. I was off grid for 6 years, relocated this summer and currently looking for a new off grid home. Still prepping though, to be ready for weather.
Good evening Patriot Nurse 🙏 Here outside KC 1/4” of ice then 2” of sleet , today about a foot of snow, now the real cold 🥶 is about to set in , if your east of KC it’s heading your way. Y’all be safe out there, blessings to you all 🙏🕊️✝️✡️❤️
I'm in Kansas City and yes, a decent layer of ice, sleet and we got well over a foot of snow. You stay safe too! These temps this week are going to be brutal!🙏🙏
Land s End sells silk long sleeved tops and elastic waist bottoms you layer under your clothes. Vey thin but make a huge difference in staying warm. We wore ours on a vacation to Alaska and they worked great. And we’re from Louisiana so not fans of cold.
Thank you for everything you do and always have done! Please stay safe and warm. I shared everywhere-hopefully people pay attention and ACT ON IT! Wyoming Bearhugs!
Good information! Some things I include; If freezing tempsare imminent, plumbing antifreeze added to dishwasher & washing machine will greatly reduce damage to pumps etc. Hot water tanks are a good reserve of water but damage will occur if that vessel freezes. Drain about 20%. Buddy heaters are a critical investment. A battery opperated Carbon Monoxide detector should always accompany it.
Good job! I was glad to see you included the preps for animals. I save any dog food my hound doesn't eat between auto-ships in the freezer. He will not go hungry if SHTF.
Minnesota born and raised. If a vehicle is stuck and you need to help get it out of the snow the most effective way to push DOWN on the bumper or hood. This gives little cars without weight the best chance of getting unstuck. Many ppl get strains and back injuries with snow like this. Also dont be afraid to take help so roads stay clear and ppl stay safe.
Heat tape & insulation blankets for hot water tanks are sold at box stores. Might be good to keep on hand or wrap pipes ahead of time. Packing tape around window seams & seals & edges works well.
Thank you Patriot Nurse as soon as I got the notice I started filling water 😍I'm happy this is a drill 😁 God Bless You for keeping Your Patriots informed making sure we are prepared🙌🌈💝🕊🥰
Great suggestions that I haven't heard before except from you is the tent inside of your sleeping/immediate space to make better use of warmth. This is an excellent suggestion that I don't hear mention of.
If you live in an area where it it freezes and your refrigerator or your freezer go down put your food in a cooler and move it outside pack some ice around the cooler and that will last a lot longer than expected.

I love you + am grateful for your advice! God bless you and everyone 🙏❤️🙏 please pray for the unhoused+ those who are struggling ❤
Stay safe
Stay safe
Just don’t forget you are your own resupply, always be careful and prepared.
Patriot Nurse, Happy New Year. You and your family have a beautiful and blessed week. LORD GOD Bless and stay vigilant.
Be well!
Great info, thanks!
Thanks 👍 I was wondering about draining the water heater
Everyone should own a POWER INVERTER for their car. It basically turns your car battery into a generator to power home essentials that can keep being recharged if you have gasoline. Just keep starting the car every 30-60min or so to recharge the battery.
Any recommendation on a good one? Everything I find on Amazon has sketchy reviews.
@@patriotpreacher43 Bluetti has a alternator charge option that works with their and other power banks.
cooking soups with beans and lots of veggies. nutrtious and easy to warm up on a small butane stove or on a claypots
I'm thinking of making beans and ham.
Don't forget the cornbread! 😁
Listening from Mackinac Island Michigan.
God Bless you for this video. Praying for all of us 🙏♥️
I am so thankful for the preps I had for this recent ice storm.
Was watching your video and our power went out. Perfect timing, huh? Luckily, by the time I finished your video, the power came back on.
😆
Your notes made me remember the window vent opening and warm zone. 2 points that had slipped my mind. Thanks, and hope the weather doesn’t hit you to bad.
Please remember newer trucks and some cars have a plug in and you can plug in coffee pots, crock pots, etc.. also charge your phone in your car if you don't have a solar bank. Don't forget to get ice salt.
You are such a lovely person reaching out to help so Many!
I'm in Southern Illinois setting in the dark with oil lamps burning.I have a gas fireplace keeping me warm.We have water.Thè trees are falling and branches are breaking. Its an ice storm.Thè electricity has been out for a few hours.
🙏🥰🙏
I'm in southern MO and had a similar experience last night. I hope & pray your power has been restored by now. Be safe.
Next city AH from you 🙏🙏🙏
Fenton, MI👋😊
Also open the cabinet doors under the sink so room heat can reach the pipes and keep them a bit warmer to prevent freezing.
Also from Lake Orion/Clarkston
Thank You for the update reminders! GOD Bless all!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate your support ❤️
Wood ash works also
A couple of wooden plants too! Don’t spin your tires IE No traction!
EXCELLENT! Numbers 6:24-26
Please pray and consider the fourth commandment KJV that reminds us of Genesis 2:2&3. Jesus is our example.
This is a great video!! Thank you. I was off grid for 6 years, relocated this summer and currently looking for a new off grid home. Still prepping though, to be ready for weather.
Good evening Patriot Nurse 🙏
Here outside KC 1/4” of ice then 2” of sleet , today about a foot of snow, now the real cold 🥶 is about to set in , if your east of KC it’s heading your way.
Y’all be safe out there, blessings to you all 🙏🕊️✝️✡️❤️
I'm in Kansas City and yes, a decent layer of ice, sleet and we got well over a foot of snow. You stay safe too! These temps this week are going to be brutal!🙏🙏
My part of Indiana is to get at least 7 inches, maybe a little more. I can hear the wind --sounds terrible.
Thank you so much Patriot Nurse! I appreciate you!
Land s End sells silk long sleeved tops and elastic waist bottoms you layer under your clothes. Vey thin but make a huge difference in staying warm. We wore ours on a vacation to Alaska and they worked great. And we’re from Louisiana so not fans of cold.
Hello My Neighbors to the south..I am from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦..This is normal for us hear ..God bless and protect you all..
Thank you for everything you do and always have done! Please stay safe and warm. I shared everywhere-hopefully people pay attention and ACT ON IT! Wyoming Bearhugs!
Good information!
Some things I include;
If freezing tempsare imminent, plumbing antifreeze added to dishwasher & washing machine will greatly reduce damage to pumps etc.
Thanks for your tips, got a fire place,2 buddy heaters xtra canisters and plenty of water.
Thanks for caring!
Now THAT'S the gal I remember from a decade ago. Solid SPECIFIC survival tips and info. 2 in a row. I KNEW you were still in there. Keep breathin'.
Thank you Patriot Nurse as soon as I got the notice I started filling water 😍I'm happy this is a drill 😁 God Bless You for keeping Your Patriots informed making sure we are prepared🙌🌈💝🕊🥰
I don't have a bathtub to fill but I have a lot of bottled water, 3 of those 7 gallon water containers and a bunch of 5 gallon buckets I can use.
Thank you so much for all you do to help. You are always in my prayers too.
Good video and advise. Happy New Year.
Went through several evacuations for wild land fires, now it’s the freezing cold 🤨🙏🏻
Thank you for your advice and for always thinking of others.
God bless you and your family.

Great suggestions that I haven't heard before except from you is the tent inside of your sleeping/immediate space to make better use of warmth. This is an excellent suggestion that I don't hear mention of.
Glad that tip was helpful!
Good one Nurse.Thanks.
If you live in an area where it it freezes and your refrigerator or your freezer go down put your food in a cooler and move it outside pack some ice around the cooler and that will last a lot longer than expected.
what a great idea with the tent I never would’ve thought about that
Coal and wood for stove or fireplace. White gas for campstove. And lantern. Oil lamp and oil. Manual can opener. Gas in your car.
Thanks for all your knowledge. Happy New Year! 🎉
People don't realize more people die in the cold than the heat
Keep water dripping/running
Thanks for the reminders! You are as always, amazing! Love my PN! ❤
Anyone look at the storm path? A perfect rectangle for west to east. What is tomorrow?
J6
And here I am in the rocky mountain west wondering where the snow went and why it's in the 40s-50s.
Everyone stay safe!
Setting a small winter rated tent in your home can be a warm isolated bubble.
Great video. You’re awesome Patriot Nurse. God Bless 🙏🏼
Converted gas generator to run propane and have two 100 gallon propane tanks filled.
It took me days ■ to prep for the plant life/roses & blueberries and staged casting Hickory Nuts for the squirrels (they have their prep as well). M
Been ready since 1999, one more hour won't matter.
😂🤣🙏
Always on point. Thank you PN
Thank you..stay safe everybody 😊
