The museum scene where Cameron stares at the painting is such a pivotal scene into the mind of Cameron. In that moment, he struggles internally with fear of his parents, fear of the future, fear of just about everything he's afraid of. Staring at the poor child in the painting (it's himself in HIS eyes) screaming is his mind screaming out because he's unhappy and scared for the future. At least this is all my take on it. To me, it's an incredibly powerful scene, and one of my favorites from the 80s.
Though she is pretty much gone from the movie after Rooney leaves school, I love Edie McClurg (Grace) in this. She's such a delight! All her little background bits are so funny, especially pulling things out of her big hair and sniffing the white-out 🤣🤣🤣
Thank you so much. It's not often that we get a reaction to a lecture on the "Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act," which as we know is terribly important as it anyone...? Tariffs...? Anyone...? Raised or lowered...? Anyone...?
My dad can recite that whole lecture, which I would say is kind of sad if not for the fact that he once woke me up with a lecture about the Laffer curve out of nowhere. It had been at least a year since I'd seen this. I was simultaneously laughing and trying to hide under my pillows in shame.
Ferry’s sister, Jennifer Grey, played “Baby” in “Dirty Dancing” with Patrick Swayze, just a year after this. She was also in the original “Red Dawn” also with Patrick Swayze 2 years before this.
One of my favourite movies of all-time. Couldn't even guess how many times I've watched this one since seeing it in the theatre when I was thirteen. Great reaction guys, glad you're back. 👍✌❤
Fun fact : the Ferrari model and year in the movie holds the record for THE most expensive automobile ever auctioned in America! $11.5M and that was about 10 years ago lol so you get an idea of why Cameron’s dad was so against taking the car.
Not sure if you guys have ever watched any Wes Anderson films, but he has a very very recognizable style to his directorial style. Wes would have been 17 years old when this movie came out. Obviously I can't say for sure, but the shot at 19:21 has always seemed like the perfect archetype for so much of Wes Anderson's style and so many of his shots. From the way the three are staged in the frame, the fancy quirkiness of the restaurants door, to the dialogue like "we're pinched for sure", and the berette the Ferris suddenly dons - it all just screams of Wes Anderson to me. So I feel like John Hughes and this film must have been a big influence on him. Also, on a side note, I don't know if you guys have seen Risky Business yet. But the house from that film is basically just around the corner from the house they used for Cameron's house in this. Cameron's house was on Beech St in Highland Park, and Tom Cruise's house in Risky Business was like .2 mile away on Linden.
The exact Cubs game that Ferris and Cameron attended on their infamous day off has been definitively identified as the game that took place on June 5, 1985, Cubs vs. Braves, with the Braves winning 4-2. God I miss the 80s
It used to be on a lot of cars you could reverse the odometer by running it in reverse, but that changed after widespread fraud in the used car market. Such a good movie, I own a copy of my own.
The couple playing Ferris' parents eventually got married in real life after meeting doing this movie. The Ferrari was actually 3 different kit cars made for the movie. The teacher was played by Ben Stein who actually worked in the White House as a speechwriter under Presidents Nixon and Ford.
Okay, that was a real parade that they found at the last minute. There were only two people on the observation stand that knew they were being filmed for a movie, and the only choreographed reaction where the people on the stairs. No one else knew this was for a movie.
I remember that for some reason that summer there were multiple movies that featured the song Twist and Shout, another being Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield.
Excellent reaction to an amazing classic. I would love a sequel to see what happens to Cameron. Not everyone trusts that things will go smoothly with his old man, but let’s hope for the best:)
The secretary is Edie McClurg, who is always in small roles but is always great. Other good Edie McClurg films: Eating Raoul; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Elvira, Mistress of the Dark; Carrie.
13:39 - Whoa - I never realized how much Matthew Broderick looks like Inspector Gadget when he picks up Sloane! Of course a few years later...ruclips.net/video/WF_xCzAXFuU/видео.html
There was a TV series of this that aired in 1990, simply titled "Ferris Bueller". It only lasted thirteen episodes. The most notable cast member in the series was the actress who played Jeannie, Jennifer Aniston. I wonder what became of her?😁
This has become practically my favorite movie in the last few years, and I'm in my early 30's so fuck the "it's only good for teenage nostalgia" crowd. This movie is perfect for anybody that appreciates true, endearing entertainment! I could talk about my love for the film for hours all day long, and I'm stoked to find anybody new laughing and appreciating it too.
Can you believe they tried to develop this into a tv series twice. The first Ferris Buueller the series lasted less than a full season. It had Jennifer Aniston as Jeanie. The second Parker Lewis can't loose lasted longer and was more fun. Both very 90s.
One of the themes of the movie is that the people who were focused on the minutiae and other people's business were miserable. Ferris saw the big picture and enjoyed life. The symbolism was echoed in the museum. The 3 had different perspectives on the picture. Cameron who was completely miserable, couldn't even see the entire portrait because he was sooo focused on each spec of paint in the picture. And in the entire movie they kept missing something (Ferris having a good time) because they were caught up in their own small little internal world.
1. Alan Ruck was 29 when filming. 2. Charlie Sheen didn't sleep for 48 hours prior to his scene. 3. It's unfair the clueless people like his parents make so much money. Especially his dad. 4. Grace the secretary pretending to be Ed Rooney during the phone call from Cameron was improvised. 5. Not pealing out in front of Rooney would have stopped him from going after Ferris. 6. I watched MTV when they still played videos. 7. This was John Hughes' ode to his hometown of Chicago.😇 John Hughes. 8. I'm not in line to be his "best friend" because I wouldn't let him walk all over and/or Bull$hit me. 9. GOOF: It's awfully late in the day to have a full bus load of kids. 10. That same school was also used for "Uncle Buck" and "The Breakfast Club".
When I didn't feel like going to school at that age, I kept a bottle of water near my bed and used it to pretend to vomit into the garbage bin. Worked every time...
The economics teacher was Ben Stein. He was famous for his monotone voice, but Mr Stein was a real life financial wizard and wealth management planner. Definitely someone you would take financial advice from. He was also in Planes, Trains and Automobiles (another John Hughes film), and the Clear Eyes commercials... "wow".... Ferrari Fun Fact: That wasn't a 250 GT California. It was, in fact, a 250 Nardo Spyder. But John Hughes thought GT California sounded better.
Another classic 1986 movie, Little Shop of Horrors, is definitely worth reacting to! It is a musical and stars the legendary Steve Martin. Hopefully you'll consider it for the channel!
How come nobody ever recommends the move "Curly Sue"? I believe that is a John Hughes movie as well. Also, after rewatching it not long ago, there's about a 10 second cameo of a very famous actor. He wasn't famous at the time.😊 Also, one in the actresses was in America's Got Talent, I believe that was the show.🙂
I assume you got a lot on your 'watch list' but if not, I'd really recommend the Mission impossible movies, they're genuinely incredible and they just keep getting better and better, which is kind of insane. I think you would love them
I have to say: I'm class of '87 and I have never understood the appeal of this movie! 🤣 I find it one of the most embarrassing things of my entire generation, makes me cringe! lol. You want to see what 80s youth was really like, watch "The River's Edge"! 🤣 Watch "Repo Man"! (I'm just goofing around, people who know those movies will get the joke.) (Although those are definite great 80s movies for your list!) Fave John Hughes movie, you ask? Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink. And then I guess Planes, Trains & Automobiles and Breakfast Club. YOU GUYS ARE GREAT! I will still be watching this reaction! That's how you know you're great reactors: I'll watch you check out a movie I don't even love!!! 🤣 You're going to show me what's great about this movie, I know you will. 😊
Google listing finds that that car is likely worth somewhere between 13 & 17 Million dollars today depending on the condition (assuming it's the original car, not the replica that was destroyed)(Note: Google listing is hard to verify if they are referring to that car/model or something similar). Even in after the car was wrecked, it's likely still worth millions. Cameron's Day Off? Who's Cameron? Nobody would care (in the movie). Gotta be Ferris. I think Ferris will be a game show host or host nighttime talk shows like SNL or The Tonight Show. Just some personality that doesn't do much other than talk a lot. He's a bit too lazy for an acting job or having to do real work. I could be wrong.
I always wondered: Have his parents not met his girlfriend? Because when they're in the cab, his father looks right at her and doesn't recognize her. And why is there a bus full of kids at almost 6pm?
welp, now you gotta watch the granddaddy of ALL 80's highschool flicks. and that's "fast times at ridgement high." without the success of "fast times..." none of the other 80's teen movies would've never been made. also, there's "to sir with love" from the 60s and "dazed and confused" from the 90s but about the 70s. also "heathers" is a very good, very dark-humoured" satire on 80s teen flicks.
Great reaction! Like Sarah, I kind of think Ferris is a bit of an A-Hole. But my favorite character in the movie was Cameron. So much so, in fact, that I named my son after him. 🙂
The sister Jennifer Grey played in Dirty Dancing. Matthew Broderick Ferris Bueller played in the movie War Games. Also a good one Glory. I take it you didn't recognize Charlie Sheen making out with Jennifer Grey in the police station. Go ahead Google the rest of this is a star-studded movie beginning of many many young people.
it's funny how fake the dummy-in-the-bed scam looks that he set up now.. it's because it's all in high definition now but back when it was on film or vhs it was a LOT more convincing lol
so this kid has an Us$ 8000 dollar sampler? how? why? $7,995 The Emulator is a series of digital sampling synthesizers using floppy disk storage, manufactured by E-mu Systems from 1981 until 2002.
What's YOUR favorite John Hughes fillm?
Ferris, then Breakfast Club
Pretty sure this is it. 👍

The pencils in the hair was improvised. She was just curious how many pens and pencils she could put in her hairdo.
We all just adore her. She's a righteous dude(tte).
She was great in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles as the car rental clerk.😄
Thank you so much. It's not often that we get a reaction to a lecture on the "Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act," which as we know is terribly important as it anyone...? Tariffs...? Anyone...? Raised or lowered...? Anyone...?
80s movies were all about class and economics, but it was mostly subtextual.
My dad can recite that whole lecture, which I would say is kind of sad if not for the fact that he once woke me up with a lecture about the Laffer curve out of nowhere. It had been at least a year since I'd seen this. I was simultaneously laughing and trying to hide under my pillows in shame.

One of the best comedies ever, and an iconic 80s flick. As a kid when this came out, it was everything.
I've seen this movie so many times, but it never gets old.
Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?
@@jlinkous05 That scene launched Ben Stein career

The miles coming off by driving backwards is actually true for a lot of old cars. But when it works, it is just a really slow way to go about it.
Its very sweet that actors who play Ferris' s mom and dad met, and fell in love while working on this movie. They got married and still married today.
Sorry to burst your bubble but they divorced after 6 years of marriage
Ferris grows up to be Inspector Gadget. His outfit when picking up Sloane is a perfect match.
It used to be on a lot of cars you could reverse the odometer by running it in reverse, but that changed after widespread fraud in the used car market. Such a good movie, I own a copy of my own.
