    I get this said a lot to me, so I'll mention it in this pinned comment.
    I'VE PLAYED SISTERS VS SISTERS ALREADY. I've seen comments saying "why are you saying svs is bad when you havent played it"
    1) Sisters vs. Sisters wasn't released in the West yet when this video was made, only in Japan. My video is from June 2022, SvS was released in the West in February 2023.
    2) I have played it, I bought the PS4 Calendar Edition on release day and finished the game. For my thoughts on it, read this: www.backloggd.com/u/huu/review/673655/
    Rest of the original comment is below. Thank you.
    Should mention a few things, since I made mistakes during this unscripted ramble.
    - When I meant that Re;Birth3 wasn't released yet (5:16) - I meant on PC / Steam. The game WAS available for the PS Vita, however I did not (and still do not) have a PS Vita. I was specifically mentioning the PC port, which was unreleased at the time, only announced.
    - I did say I was gonna get into talking about the recent spinoffs like the Senran Kagura stuff but never did (13:58). Frankly, not much I would've said about them even if I did remember. They just look like another generic mashup of Neptunia and Senran Kagura (like how Action Unleashed and MegaTag were made by the devs of SK) that don't really interest me either way.
    - I also know I could've edited the audio better to remove stutters and me repeating certain points, but I kinda didn't because I wanted to keep the feel of this being an unscripted ramble. The way I recorded this was - I started OBS, hit the "Start recording" button and just proceeded to talk. Not even any notes or anything. I only made very minimal edits to the audio while working on this.
    - I mentioned that "they added characters from VII into every Re;Birth game" (12:20) - they only added Uzume.
    - Yes I know the PC recordings sometimes flicker. I'm having issues with Nvidia Shadowplay where it for some reason switches focus for a microsecond between my other monitors and it causes that flicker effect you can sometimes see. If anyone knows of a fix for this - PLEASE let me know. Thanks in advance.
    - I don't hate Neptunia. I wouldn't own the PS3 originals, Nep VII on the PS4, every Neptunia game until 2019 on Steam, and Sisters vs. Sisters on the PS4 if I hated it. (i realize there was a twitter link here before but i deleted my twitter at the end of 2022 lol)
    If there are any questions, do let me know.

      @@getbluespheres3k Sorry for taking 2 months to reply, never received a notification.
      The reason I say that is because when the concept of dimensions was established in Victory, they started using the idea of "everything takes place in a different dimension" for quite literally every single spin-off game in the series. I.e. this plot point about this character makes no sense = "well dUHHH they're in a DiFfErEnT dImEnSiOn". That's what annoys me about the trope in Neptunia. It gives them an excuse to disregard characterization & continuity because it's just easier to explain it away as such. This leads to a lack of focus in the series, which is what we've been seeing for the last couple of years.

    Even though this is 2 years old, Neptunia is getting more mainstream but its only the beginning considering Idea Factory wants to keep making spinoffs rather than mainline games which becomes a waste of opportunity especially since they also become locked on one platform. This also goes for remaking games that are only a few years old.

    I played Re Birth trilogy, Neptunia U, Noire, 4 godesses.
    Re Birth trilogy was nice enough, I think all 3 had something to offer, 1 for the freshness (My actual first experience with the series), 2 for the sligthly more serious plot and protagnoist (I am one of the rare breed that actually enjoy the more serious tone of this game compared to other entires in the series, and I also like Nepgear more than Neptune) as well as the Conquest ending which is still on my mind to this day, what a great ending holy crap, and Re Birth 3 I think was the funniest game IIRC. However by now it was getting a tad repetitive and stagnant.
    Neptunia U and Noire were generally decent, solid games. That said, Noire’s not something I would ever touch again, while I can see myself replaying U while turning my brain off sometime down the years.
    4GO is interesting, its very pretty, and also very jank. Although I enjoyned it, I also can’t help but feel like the "magic" of neptunia was starting to fall off right around this point, I think the writing/plot was a lot less inspired here, idk, I didnt really laugh that much, everyone felt so safe and played out...
    I only got some hours into VII before my computer died and I had to replace it. I already have a good rig to play games on but I just never go around coming back... it seems like I quit at more or less the point where the series went down in quality by a lot though. I was already starting to see the sympthons on 4 Goddesses despite kinda enjoyning it’s jank. It just feel even more cashgrabby than usual.

    I'm surprised to see someone prefer the originals, all I've mostly read on Reddit and other places the fandom is spread on throughout the years is that people think they are jank that you should just play R;B instead. I got into Nep the same year you did though I'm way younger, and while the gameplay for the first PS3 Nep is indeed some very heavy jank, I do think the rest of the game has a more interesting charm than R;B1.
    I'm 100% with you on the series feeling like its become a parody of itself. I was captivated by the game console gimmick when I got into it as I've always been into retro stuff and all the references to old games and the happenings in the industry being mirrored in the game's plot really pulled me in. Sisters vs. Sisters brought some of that back but we desperately need a new good mainline like you said, and yeah holy crap does the subreddit feel like it's just the same fanart being reposted every week as there's no one talking about anything.
    We also just got Rushdimension Neptunia vs. Titan Dogoo (or whatever it'll be called in the west) announced which is yet another spin-off, and while something with vehicles involved would get me pumped, it looks like its just you rounding up dogoos to rank up scores and that's it, guess at least it's not yet another re-release of R;B1. The remake of a remaster of a remake of the first game thing with ReVerse will never not be funny to me.
    Shame you didn't enjoy Super Nep RPG as I think it's one of the most visually striking games in the series. One "merit" I'll give to Virtual Stars is that they built all their models from the ground up and licensed out an entirely new game engine for it just to then never use it again and jump onto the Unity Engine for SvsS and presumably Game Maker R:Evolution and Vs. Titan Dogoo as well.

    • @huuishuu
      @huuishuu  4 месяца назад +1

      I just feel like the original games are better because they weren't afraid to be way more experimental, even if the 2010 Neptunia game is just a reskin of a different game, it still ends up standing out within the series. The originals just feel like they have more "soul" attached to them compared to the Re;Birth games, which still feel to me like they were made just to make more money. That's not an inherently bad thing, mind you, it's just something you can definitely feel when playing each counterpart of itself.
      This is the first I've heard of "Rushdimension", goes to show how much I've stopped caring about the series at this point. If CH/IF don't care anymore, then honestly - I don't either. Don't discount the fact that they might release another remaster of a remake of a remaster of a remake of the first game. Wait for the PS6's release and I'll bet you they'll jump right on it.
      I do agree that Super Nep RPG has great art direction. I think the narrative is good and the art style within the game is genuinely very striking in a good way, but the gameplay just completely ruins the game. It feels like you're playing a mobile game poorly mapped to console/keyboard controls for combat, and like someone turned Sonic 06's slippery physics from 3D to 2D in the exploration sequences.

      Sisters vs. Sisters is considered "canon" and to be taking place after the events of VII, so it's probably the closest game we've gotten thus far to a mainline game. I personally at least consider it a mainline game, hence my quite positive outlook on the game.
      I've heard of the announcement of a mainline game, there was a Famitsu article about it (haven't seen an English article yet about this though), but until I hear more of it, I'm not holding out much hope. Hoping it's good, at the very least.

    On one hand, I can see where you are coming from. There's no denying the series has been stuck in a stagnating rut for a good while now. There are only so many lackluster spin-offs and seemingly pointless re-releases one can handle in such a short amount of time before feeling burnt out.
    But on the other, I don't exactly agree with much of your points, or at least the way you presented them. Bringing up the subreddit in particular has me scratching my head since the series is still very niche and reddit in general is never a good way to gauge communities. Like, I'm still a fan of the series, been around since the very first entry on PS3, and I've avoided those places like the plague.
    Even past that, as much as you or I may not like some entries, they all still have their place. I hate "4 Goddesses Online" and you clearly don't like "Neptunia vs Senran Kagura", which I agree it didn't do the crossover particularly well, but I've seen plenty of people say they liked or even loved either or both of those entries. Even something like "Neptunia ReVerse" has it's place since it's the most complete and accessible version of the entry to date (especially now that PS5s are finally getting easier to obtain), is the only version to get a physical release in some regions (like for PAL), and...damn it...I personally love the original and remixed tracks.
    So yeah, a very mixed video I have to say. It's clear you do care about the series but there's just too much conjecture based on feelings alone.

    • @huuishuu
      @huuishuu  Год назад +2

      As mentioned in the pinned comment and the description, this video was entirely unscripted and based on whatever came to my mind when I talked and spoke whatever came out first. It's a fair point to say that I contradict a lot of my points or present them poorly, as I went into this video with not much planning. It's pure emotion speaking, if that makes any sense.
      I brought up the Reddit because it was the place that I was personally the most involved with years ago (/r/gamindustri is still one of my "top subreddits" on my account, even though I haven't posted anything meaningful there since at least 2018) and even then, it's a very stark contrast as to how pretty inactive it became over the years. It's a night and day difference comparing the sub in 2015-2016 to what it is now, hence why I brought it up. Sure it's not a good measurement, I don't disagree, but it's just where I'm coming from and what I was most involved with.
      And people can freely enjoy whatever games they want, that's not what I'm trying to say when I bring up complaints about useless games in the series. I've seen people enjoy games like Hyperdevotion Noire and Super Neptunia RPG, and I don't like either of those games, and that's totally fair. To each their own. Even Virtual Stars has its fans and it's totally fair if someone likes something I don't.
      Thanks for your feedback, appreciate it.

      If you ever get the urge to, I at least recommend trying out Re;Birth1 and 2. I would say the same for Re;Birth3 but I honestly think 3 is the weakest out of all the Re;Birth games. I would say play the PS3 originals, but not everyone has access to a PS3, and the games themselves are also stupidly rare to track down.
      You can also just hop straight into VII if you want, which has the best gameplay in the series in my opinion. The game is accessible enough to new players that playing the older games isn't really a requirement. You may miss a reference or two to the previous games, but that's honestly small potatoes.

    I really doubt the claim that there "so many die-hard fans" is more like 50 or less of us at this point.
    The fanbase at large rejected authentic debates/discussion about the franchise and now the subreddit is a graveyard of bad decisions by a low life mod team.
    We can only hope that one day the right type of Neptunia fans take back the Neptunia community so fans can learn what this franchise should actually be about, instead of being sugar coated into it by losers who want Neptunia to be merely another waifu franchise like Senran Kagura.
    Comparing Neptunia to Senran Kagura is mental but that's how low the fanbase and the devs stooped.

      Yeah and the state of the fandom genuinely shows right now how utterly dead the series is. When most of the fandom only really cares about "haha nep funny wow" or whatever, you know things are bad. Most Steam reviews, for example, for most of the recent releases rarely have anything constructive to say and instead just resort to "game has nep, 10/10" and that's about it, and I fucking hate how things are now.

    • @huuishuu
      @huuishuu  2 года назад +7

      Lewd fanart is genuinely "whatever" because every single fandom has it. I wouldn't exactly knock Neptunia for that in its current state.

    I liked Re;Birth 1, and I liked Re;Birth 2 (even with the bad ending). I wasn't crazy about Re;Birth 3 because of the whole "assault is funny" theme. While it didn't make me angry or anything, it definitely failed to be amusing or funny.
    VII was the last Nep game I really loved. NepU was fun, but I never finished Blanc vs Zombies, primarily because the "haha she's a bad writer" humor bored me. And speaking of Blanc, in Re;Birth 1 she was cute but had anger issues, but as time and more games went by, it seemed like she became just anger issues.
    One thing that stopped me from trying one of the last supposedly good Nep games (Cyberdimension 4GO2) was the fact that there's no Live2D. No longer do the portraits move and breathe, now they're just flat, dead, lifeless. Come on, if you can't animate the 2D portraits, then at least do the cutscenes with 3D models like you did back in mk2!
    I've even bought various Nep merch over the years, but now I no longer display any of it, because I've lost all interest in the series. The fact that it's gone so downhill has even made me wonder retroactively: "Why did I ever like it so much?"

    Neptunia, specifically, is my most hyperfixataion. Ever since 2016, once a year, I fall back into the neptunia games. Hot Take: i love mk2 and rebirth 2, and my favorite girl is Nepgear.
    I, being a broke kid, never had the chance to play the games. Everything i experienced through the franchise was through LetPlays (Lost Pause), reviews, the anime. I just liked the characters and their OG voice actors were talented! The new VAs are good, but the original ones really had thier own charm and listening to them was fun!
    Like you said, it was fun!
    That being said, the flanderization the characters series went through is the roof. The characters really do feel like parodies of themselves. Vert went through the worse of it with her sister obsession, and Neptune was just mean in Rebirth 3.

    Sad because there are so many great concepts you could go down for new mainline games.
    Maybe a story parodying the worst most corrupt sides of the modern triple A game industry with some evil Ubisoft/EA level CEO as the big bad but with an over the top JRPG twist.
    Or maybe ultradimension Plutia a game set in the universe from victory a couple of years after that with Plutia as the main character, exploring how that universe has been doing since we last saw it in victory/Rebirth 3, even updating the 90s themes with Blanc having an N64 style outfit, maybe Vert with a windows XP color theme etc. Through I really miss Plutia and hate how she got put on a bus after victory.
    On another note I miss characters like Linda who got sidelined after MK2 or even checking in on Rei to see how shes reformed after the events of victory.
    Also since they did a touhou maker it would amuse me if they ever did a maker inspired by the games of Toby Fox but that might just be me,

      Obviously I encourage people to form their own opinions on the state of the franchise. Just because I don't like how things are shouldn't take away from the potential enjoyment others could have with it.
      I'd say give the other games a shot anyway, maybe you'll see something in them that I don't.
      The reason I'm mad over this is because I was there for its peak and saw how good it can be, VII is still a phenomenal game to play and still gets a high recommendation from me. Sisters Vs Sisters, the most recent game, is also one I found genuine decent enjoyment out of.
      Many people enjoyed Super Neptunia RPG, even though I didn't and it wasn't my personal cup of tea.

      I was also a bit "late" and got into the Neptunia games during 2022 (or was it 2021?). I really liked the Re;Birth series even though they're all very similar. I'd totally recommend Megadimension Neptunia VII, it's probably my all time favourite of the series. I even got the soundtrack for it, it's a banger. :)

      The pacing of the story in that game was the worst part for me. I enjoyed the story of SvS a helluva lot more than I enjoyed the stories of any other modern game that comes to mind, and I found the game overall to be a step up from what we've had for the past few years. Even if a lot of beats were repeated from VII, it's still at least a step in the right direction.
      But yeah, the pacing - holy shit, it moves too fast for its own good. A story like the one in SvS needed more time to develop than what we got in the final product.

    I have quite a few thoughts on your video and the Neptunia series in general. I guess I shall start with what I don't like about your video.
    Honestly I think the Neptunia x Senran Kagura game looks fine. It looks like Action Unleashed/Megatagmension which is saying a lot because I loved those games for some reason and while it looks like some of the same... I like the concept of this Gamindustri incarnation! I also really have high hopes for Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters especially with the English announcement recently and that it's returning with a dub, which the previous two games lacked (those games being the Senran x Nep cross over and Virtual Stars though I get why the Senran x Nep one didn't have a dub...) but frankly Sis vs Sis is the last chance the series has to get back on my good side. Also Mk2 being better than Rebirth 2 I really don't ... agree with that. And I personally think Victory and Rebirth1 are my favorite games in the series, while also loving the very original Nep game, and even VII(Victory 2). There's also a spin off I think you should check out on RUclips called Hyperdimension Neptunia PP Producing Perfection because frankly that game I played on Vita and it's really what solidified my love for the series alongside Victory on PS3 and honestly felt like the perfect side content for Victory. The idol sim stuff is shallow (as is some of the other Neptunia games side-game wise) but the writing, characters, etc was great. Sadly it's stuck on Vita and probably won't ever get any port... sad.
    Now what I do agree with is stuff like Rebirth3 being worse than Victory. Something about it just doesn't...feel right. Then we have Neptunia Virtual Stars, holy crap, I made a mistake buying that game! I thought it was cool because the whole v-tuber thing and I wanted to get kind of more into that just so I can understand that a bit more and maybe see some form of appeal to it but it did the EXACT OPPOSITE. I felt crammed in the face of stuff I don't really understand such as all these V-tubers saying random crap and then all this stuff about live streams and having to make money or something IDK I didn't really care after like 2 levels and the lack of dub really turned me off too... My whole SHTICK with Neptunia was how good the English VA was and how much fun they had with the series, Neptune being voiced by Melissa Fahn being my favorite because she GETS Neptune and has FUN with- or should I say AS her? Anyway Virtual Stars was not it, it really was just a shallow as hell game with a lot of glam to cash in on the v-tuber craze. I keep it just to have it there but I really cannot recommend playing it. Hyperdevotion Noire though... that was a fucking THING. I dropped it way faster than Virtual Stars and that is saying something... I could not have fun with it and frankly you covered what I felt about it in your review so I won't waste my, or your time (or anyone else reading this) and just say it was bad and I hated it. Then we have Super Neptunia RPG. Great looking game, the art styles great... I could've gotten into it if it were just a normal RPG instead of what they tried to do... Thankfully I got it on Switch for like 10 bucks physically because of a clearance sale... so not that bad I guess? I still own it again because I just... don't want to sell it. I still love the series and frankly it's why I feel such frustration toward it now a days. Then we have ReVerse which is literally just a remake of Rebirth1 which I would be fine with actually- if it were PS4/PS5... Not PS5 only. Because I'd like to play on my PS4 the original and my favorite of the games with new features n whatnot but nooooo... and I can't even fathom why this was the case as Sis vs Sis is PS4 and PS5...
    I think I might actually get the Rebirth 1 Plus on Ps4 in Japanese. I know enough to get through the menu's and frankly my first go at Rebirth 1 was funnily enough with the Japanese version since I couldn't wait for it at the time and didn't know if it'd get a English release.
    Either way, I think I've talked enough but I just want to end this off with like... I really find myself going back to the PS3 games (notably Nep 1 and Victory) and I really hope at some point we get a decent game if Sis vs Sis isn't actually good but at the end of the day if it turned into a cash cow series at least we have the older games to rely on and fall back on.
    PS. Neptune vs Sega Hard Girls felt legit like a main line game because WHAT THE HELL THAT GAME HAD NO RIGHT TO BE THAT GOOD LOL my only issue was the true ending. I could NEVER GET IT... Ah well, still had a ton of fun with it and really should replay it at some point.

    • @huuishuu
      @huuishuu  2 года назад +6

      The reason I personally dislike the Senran Kagura x Nep game, despite not playing it, is because it just feels tone-deaf to the series. It came out at a bad time where people like myself are just completely sick of the cash-grabby spinoffs and, to me, the SKxNep game just felt like "more of the same", same as games like Neptunia Shooter or Top Nep. They feel tone-deaf and cash-grabby, hence why I'm annoyed at their existence.
      Also the reason I prefer mk2 over Re;Birth2 is due to its longevity and difficulty. Re;Birth2 very heavily nerfed a lot of things from mk2, and while some may see that as a positive, to me it felt like a negative because fights that were previously difficult but satisfying to finish in mk2 felt...empty and devoid of impact in Re;Birth2. Particularly the Normal Ending final boss. Compare mk2's iteration to Re;Birth2's and the different is vast.
      I never really gave much thought to the English dub because in every game that has an English dub, it's almost never finished or voiced all the way, including key and critical moments in the story. The same was true for the PS3 originals and then the same thing again for the Re;Birth games. The only game where I can actually praise the English dub is probably VII because it's one of the few games at the top of my head that really covered most of the game with the English dub, barring in mind a few places. Still, I did prefer the JP dub either way, I think most characters are way more energetic and consistent in the JP dub (probably due to better direction of the actors).

    • @RetroNerdyGamer
      @RetroNerdyGamer 2 года назад +4

      @@huuishuu I mean, to be honest, if Senran x Nep had come out first before Virtual Stars I think it wouldve done better. Still, I think it deserves a fair shake especially on discount!
      Honestly, Mk2 is better because of NISA, Gust and the other characters. As much as I loved RED coming back for Rebirth 2 it really just felt like Mk2 with a Nep Victory coat of paint... Either way those 2 are not my favorite in the series for many reasons though. (Mk2 and rebirth2 that is) Also "conquest" ending is technically canon now because of Rebirth2 and it's "true ending" being a spin on that one.
      I get the dub doesn't have as many voice lines as the sub but it is still amazing, and frankly I think consistency was because of the weirdness of NISA doing the first like 4 games (the ps3 trilogy and Producing Perfection) then the rest being done by IF International. Doesn't help some VA's changed like Noire and Vert (though Vert was done by Rom's VA so she at least had some idea of what she was doing) Either way, I'm glad at least Sisters vs Sisters is getting a dub and maybe that'll coincide with quality lol

Having checked some other IF games on PC without a controller, my only 2 options are controller or Switch which I have. The lastest game they are putting out seems very interesting, Rebirths coming to Switch as well soon after, maybe I put too much faith in the gameplay, and should enjoy the other stuff more without overthinking about it.

It has its flaws, definitely, and it can/does get extremely repetitive & tiresome, but still not enough for me not to want to replay the game every now and then.

    I actually share most of your opinions on the OGs being better than the Re;Birth trilogy. My sole point of contention is that imo Re;Birth 3 is still better than Victory. • @huuishuu
      @huuishuu  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, but the difference is that it's still an optional feature by the end. A brand new player going into Victory will not know how to abuse the Scout system (I certainly didn't until my 3rd playthrough). And ignoring the Scout system, that game is genuinely brutally hard.
      I can't say the same about Re;Birth3. Re;Birth3 was so piss-easy and braindead on my very first playthrough that it detracted from my enjoyment quite a bit. I share the same critique for Re;Birth2 compared to mk2 as well. That, and the gimped EXE system on Re;Birth3 just made it not worth using, later games also have this issue as well (Sisters vs. Sisters comes into mind immediately).
      Obviously from a QoL and enjoyment perspective - I think more people would enjoy and would rather play Re;Birth3, and that's fine. Not me personally though.

    I loved Hyperdevotion and thought Sega Hard Girls was meh. To each their own. I started falling out with the series with the Virtual Stars shooter.

      I respect that. I already went into it in the video, but I hated Hyperdevotion, loved the SeHa game, and couldn't get into Super Nep RPG. I think that's around the point I started becoming mostly disinterested in the series. Virtual Stars was the last nail in the coffin that told me "yeah, this sucks".
      Sisters vs. Sisters was good (for a Neptunia game, aside from that it had tons of issues), and I'm hoping it's not a one-off thing for the series.

    I honestly despise the first game on PS3 and apparently it was unfinished and it shows.

      Oh definitely. I like it personally because it's charming because of it. And the story itself is a far cry from what we got in subsequent remakes. I honestly think the original 2010 game has one of the best stories in the whole franchise, but yeah...it's not a game I'd recommend to anyone personally.
      Only people I'd recommend it would be hardcore Neptunia fans who are just interested in seeing where the series got its start, but otherwise - not worth playing. I do like how the game is rare though and I've had collectors reach out to me about buying my physical copy of the game, to which I respond with "yeah no thanks". Got offered $150 from a guy for it and I still declined.

      Told you. I used to be a very hardcore Neptunia fan and this franchise means a lot to me.
