  • Watch me (or listen) ramble on about a series I've come to love like my 3rd cat for like 25 minutes~
The Neptunia series, also known as Hyperdimension Neptunia, is a Japanese video game franchise that blends role-playing game (RPG) elements with a unique premise centered around the personification of video game consoles. Developed by Compile Heart and published by Idea Factory, the series is set in the fictional world of Gamindustri, where four goddesses-representing different gaming consoles-battle for supremacy. The main protagonist, Neptune, symbolizing Sega Neptune, navigates through various dimensions and faces a plethora of gaming-related challenges and enemies. The games often incorporate humor, parodying gaming industry trends, and feature a distinctive art style. With multiple installments, spin-offs, and anime adaptations, the Neptunia series has gained a dedicated fanbase for its blend of RPG mechanics, humor, and unique take on the world of gaming.

Excellent video, I want to slightly add that the content of the remasters and their originals on PS3 differed in the number of characters and spells, some of them referencing real game developers and additional visual cutscenes (and the Japanese version of the third game even had a First Gen Compa). Are you planning to review the work of fans of this community and show the most (and not only) famous of them?

Technically, There is no Definitive CANON to Neptunia
Because remember DIMENSION is part of the Franchise's Terminology.
    So, in layman's terms
EVERYTHING is Canon but the events that Take place Or Involves the Hyper Dimension are as follows
Mk2/Rebirth 2, Mk3/rebirth 3 , Megadimension (Both versions technically work with the VR events being more or less Up to the Players on if they can be considered "Canon"), 4GO and finally Sisters vs Sisters
So far only 5 of these games either Take place in or Involves the HYPER DIMENSION.
While the Original and Rebirth 1 take place in the SUPER Dimension
There really is no such thing as Mainline with Neptunia as everything can be considered Canon if you separate them by Dimension
2, 3, Megadimension, Cyberdimension aka 4GO and Sisters vs Sisters all use Hyper Dimension as a Plot device.
Hyperdevotion takes place in a Dimension where the world is called Gamarket instead of Gamindustri.
The Dimension the Big Nep game takes place in is as of yet unnamed.
The Zombie based game takes place in a Dimension where they're in a School.
    So on and so forth.
Even The Senran Kagura x Neptunia game takes place in am entirely new DIMENSION.
So, Technically we shouldn't be calling any game a Mainline or Spin off Title.
    It's Just Neptunia
The Neptunia series is way to Complicated to really think of it as
    Mainline or Spin off titles.
It really is just a series of Consistent Multiple Dimensions that need to be Fleshed out more at some point
Why not a Game taking place Primarily in the Ultra Dimension, or a Game Primarily set in the ZERO Dimension set after VII.
Another game set in a Dimension we haven't seen yet.
The possibilities of different Stories and Dimensions is LITERALLY endless with Neptunia.
Am I seriously the only person who is a fan of this series who understands how a Franchise involving DIMENSIONS works ?

I say at least until they Prove Cyberdimension Neptunia and Sisters vs Sisters as just Spin offs I'm considering them Canon.
Because at the very least, they Mentioned previous events that happened in both
Cyberdimension mentioned both Mk3 and Megadimension
Histoire mentioned the Dimensional gates in both English and Japanese in Sisters vs Sisters.
So, I'm using Logic From what was said In the games. For my Idea of the Canon.
Hyperdevotion was also Confirmation of my Method working.
Gamarket = Different dimension by Definition.
Gamindustri is always the name of the world in most of the games so just that is unreliable.
I'm using what is Said and Mentioned in game to determine my own Idea of the Canon.

1)No, the OG was not bad. It was a solid game with decent mechanics and an incredible story. Its still better than most Nep games mechanically.
2)Just gonna say that its best to start the Conquest Ending 1st in Mk2, so that the ending theme song hits harder than any other.
3)Um, no. Kana Hanazawa is in Date A Live: Rio Reincarnation and Rinne Utopia. She's Rinne.
4)No, Re;Birth 1 was a massive downgrade from the Original in pretty much every way possible. Re;Birth 1's mechanics are mindless and don't require much thought as a turn based RPG.
5)Nah the reason why people call it "7" is because its done in Roman numerals. "VII" is "7" in Roman numerals. Final Fantasy VII and Remake use the same Roman numerals.
    6)GOATed Encounter of Destiny reference.
7)People like bad endings because they're usually better written than the True and Good endings. Especially in the Neptunia series. Conquest Ending is so infamous and people enjoy it so much, that they made an entire spinoff (SVS) to follow through on it.
8)Good to see a fellow Tamsoft hater.
9)Uhh, you used Mega Miracle Force for your "Neptunia and Friends" bit. Can I get some input on that?
10)Ah, nvm. Mega Miracle Force came later. Must've not had footage for Nep and Friends.
11)Look, I get the hate train for Reverse. But after SVS left me miffed for being average at best, and Ninja Wars nearly leading me to quitting the series entirely, but Reverse renenergized me.
12)In fairness, I would not want to play either Senran Kagura or Ninja Wars. But then again, I hate ARPGs.
13)Oh god no on SVS being the best spinoff. Not even close. Its mid amongst mid.
I do respect your right to an opinion, but as my comment clearly underlines, I do not agree with it.

    • @TWLSpark

Conquest and its consequences will pursue this franchise forever. I can only hope they simply forget it ever happened and don't reference it again.
Also, HDN was universally panned on release for its mechanics, and for good reason. They tried to innovate, yes, but the truth is that nothing they made for it, beyond the premise, was any good at all. It's kinda ironic that every time they try to change the main series formula for the spinoffs, they almost always turn into pretty bad or unremarkable games. Which is a shame, because I'd like them to try the TRPG genre one more time without the god awful plot and the janky mechanics.

    • @OneManCast
      @OneManCast 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@TWLSpark
A)I disagree vehemently. Conquest Ending was great and is the main story beat that everyone in the fanbase remembers.
B)Just because its panned, doesn't mean its bad. It just means the population at large is stupid. No, its not for good reason. The reason is that people had a skill issue. The people who like the original, tend to actually know how to play the game. XD
C)What you say here about the "janky mechanics" and "god awful plot" (which btw I disagree on the latter) is sort of a hallmark of Neptunia. Its part of Neptunia's charm.
D)Though in fairness, I agree with you. I do want them to give TRPG a go, as I hate ARPGs.
Fam, no matter how hard you try, the mechanics work for the OG. You just don't know how to use them. I find that people who know how to play the OG, to generally like it or love it, and that those who hate it, tend to not know how to play the OG Nep game. Not saying its perfect, it has its problems sure, but to cite out of touch reviewers on metacritic is disingenuous at best and woefully dishonest at worst.

Nah, PS3 HDN was dogshit. Shitty distance auto battle mechanic, ugly ass dungeons, boring secondary objectives (hunting a squid enemy with a random spawn chance is boring as fuck) horrible 3 character party system (this shit made healing and reviving an unnecessarily excruciating process to do) and horrible item system (can't use items without wasting a turn by inputting a specific button string, and then the item would be used. Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?). All in all, the bad reviews are deserved, game was obviously a VERY low budget title that was not developed with actual fun in mind, or an entire series for it, and only stayed alive, because the players liked the characters and the story, and that was enough to keep the series going. I'd rather play with VIIRs shitty ap battle system than PS3 HDNs horrible gameplay.

    • @shelbybayer200
      @shelbybayer200 7 месяцев назад +1

SVS is not a Spin off actually
As Nepgear references Megadimension Neptunia by calling out that the Arfoire they're up against is the one she met in ZERO Dimension
      And she would know
The Conquest Ending reference is actually a Bad Timeline if you're paying attention to how the story goes you'd know that.
Grey Sister/Maho is from a Bad Future
The Maho that we meet in the timeline we play through is another Maho that would've eventually been the Grey Sister that fights us

    • @TWLSpark
      @TWLSpark 7 месяцев назад +1

@@OneManCast I wasn't talking about HDN when I referred to the "god awful plot" and "janky mechanics". I was talking about Hyperdevotion, the only TRPG that the franchise has, which is infamous for having both bad gameplay and an horrible plot. I'd actually say that HDN is actually worth playing over Hyperdevotion, but since its only redeeming quality is the plot, you could pretty much watch a walkthrough to experience it instead.
HDN was panned because the mechanics were honestly pretty bad, not because they didn't understand them. Even years later, no game in the series and outside of it has replicated what they did because these mechanics were just slow and made particularly actions unnecessarily annoying to perform for not reason. Calling people stupid because you're good at playing a shitty game just makes _you_ sound like the stupid one.
Also, the Neptunia franchise is actually one of the least jankiest that exists, so I don't understand why you say that "being janky" is something that characterizes the series. The plot isn't god awful either - the spinoffs maybe, but they're made to earn extra cash anyway. The main series is known for having a pretty competent plot, if not good in some cases. The only exception is Victory, but we don't talk about Victory.

Cyberdimension Neptunia and Sisters vs Sisters are actually Canon to the story
They just aren't marked as such

They may not be considered "Mainline"
I did not say they were Mainline
I said that they were CANON
Continuity doesn't just have to be Mainline entries
It's whatever is shown to mention past events that are canon unless specified
