Rush Hour Trains at: Milton Keynes Central, WCML, 21/04/23

- A great evening spent at Milton Keynes Central on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from London Northwestern Railway, Avanti West Coast and freight from Freightliner, GBRF, Royal Mail and DB Cargo UK.
The station was built in May 1982 so it really is one of the youngest stations on the West Coast Mainline, the station has seen a couple of redevelopments. Mostly this was throughout 2006 when platform 6 was introduced, this was to allow stopping express trains to use platform 5 in either direction. The other addition was to bring in a new bay platform with platform 2A. This was built for what extension of the Marston Vale Line, but subsequently this never happened and is now used mostly by Southern, although Southern now no longer serve Milton Keynes. The furthest north they travel on the West Coast Mainline is Hemel Hempstead. However this also could be used for the East - West Rail traffic at some stage depending on what rolling stock they decide to use.
Once the East West Rail line has been completed from Oxford to Bicester and the subsequent section from there to Bletchley completed Chiltern Railways will be running services from Oxford to Milton Keynes and Aylesbury to Milton Keynes.

Shame the 90s aren’t on passenger work, but always good to see them on freight.
It would have been nice of GC had kept their London to Blackpool service then we would have seen 90s back on passenger workings on the WCML.
That was superb video mate. Good to catch both 390119 and 121 in one video and lots of freight trains including two 70s, two 90s, the mail train and NWT livery 66747
It made a huge difference with all the Southampton traffic coming along this section of the WCML, petty that they are now back onto the CML. But I really enjoyed my time here

Ah my childhood station! Been there many times. Still never gets old! :) I’m sure LNWR switching to Platform 5 makes me think that they want to keep the fast lines clear should anything need to overtake such as Avanti.
10:06 class 70 at Milton Keynes never even happens as they normally would appear from Nuneaton but yknow what’s going on! They’re mainly on Southampton to Lawley, Trafford park and Garston. (Sometimes Crewe but not often) Considering there design for heavily loaded freight trains.

Milton Keynes has always been a great station to come to in the rush hour, even more so then as the line from Didcot to Oxford was closed so it meant I was able to get so much more freight coming through which is always great to see. I can see why LNWR would use P5 for that reason but throughout my time filming there, there was always a large gap between the LNWR stopping services on P5 and the Avanti services passing fast on P6.
Hi Tornado922. Great rush hour film at Milton Keynes Central. Extra information for you: at 22:16, 325006 was in the middle of the Willesden-Warrington Royal Mail service and at 46:43, it was 221107 & 221117 working the Avanti service from Holyhead. I also prefer the 390 Avanti Pendolinos to the 221 Super Voyagers. It's not that I don't like the Avanti 221s, I just like the 390s more. I think, because the 17.15 and 18.15 Liverpool trains and the 17.24 and 18.24 Manchester trains both use platform 6, it is easier for the 17.19 and 18.19 Crewe trains to use platform 5. Looking forward to the next rush hour film at Cheddington. Kind regards, Chris.

omg great video i think i was on one of the avanti west coast 390s passing to london euston because i remember seeing a 10 coaach 221 and then right after i saw a 5 coach 221 i was deffentily on one of the 390s passing to Euston😂

Absolutely brilliant rush hour film at Milton Keynes central 2 double headed class 90's, 9 class 66's 2 class 70's and a Royal mail 325 and 390119 and the climate hero 390 and a pair 319 a shame there was no DRS 88's
It was one of my best visits to the WCML for quite some time! Having the extra freight running to and from Southampton made a massive difference here. A DRS 88 would have topped it off for sure
An hour long? I will watch in sections 😊but first I need to get myself some bopcorn 😄

A lot of freight diverts using the WCML as the route from Southampton through Oxford is closed due to bridge repairs south of Oxford one man’s loss is another’s gain great video
It was great to see so much freight coming through here as a result of the Oxford - Didcot line getting closed. Although it has now reopened so at some stage I'll have to venture over to the CML to do some rush hour filming.

11:25 390121 was named last year several months after it was painted. It was a competition to name the train and opportunity came out the best.

I believe GBRF to have taken over the Dagenham-Mossend flow now, so this was probably your last time seeing a DB 66 on it.

can I ask why is EMR running 2 158 units from Liverpool to Norwich shouldn't that be a 222 or something for a HST
It all comes down to the rolling stock that they have available to them. Unfortunately their intercity trains are used exclusively on the MML from London to Sheffield and Nottingham, although with EMR now getting new trains it could possibly allow them to put some of their 222s on the longer cross country routes that their 158s currently work. But time shall tell. If I were in charge of EMR I would have longer trains running between those towns as their trains are always packed.

Hello tornado you can do Oxenholme Lake District after this because I live in the Lake District and it would be really nice if you do a rush hour film there and to get there you have to go on a train to Crewe and then on another train to Oxenholme Lake District.
Oxenholme will never be covered in a rush hour film because it's to far away from Milton Keynes. If I ever cover that station then it will be done as a standard film.
