Hello Luis - I have the IQ Ruby Tour bowling ball as well. I’m in a Junior League and this is my 2nd year of bowling. It’s a 14 lb ball and I throw it at 13 mph. For me the ball right out of the box is perfect. I can’t believe the strike force that I get when the ball hits the pocket. By the way I’ve got about a 165 bowling average, and I use the Storm Ice ball for my spares.
Alright coach need your home court knowledge! Comin to S Point for sweeps this sat from OC cali. Noon start so we're prolly on the burn right? I throw similar rev to u, maybe pinch lower and always have to keep my speed in check. My bread n butter starts at 6-7 arrow, down & in style. Knowing the lanes there as u do can I start w my Marvel Maxx (Nex Hybrid) or iQ NP or are those covers already to strong for probably burn lanes? Below them I've got a Alert at 3000 and a iQ emerald. Thanx!
Polish is usually only good for shelf appeal, not for actual use, in most situations. Also, it's a lot easier and cheaper for a bowler to use Abralon pads to consistently achieve a smoother surface at 3000 or 4000, than to run to the pro shop, or apply polish by hand. Personally, I have a very high axis tilt, so unless the lanes are on fire, I don't have a problem getting the ball down lane; my issue is getting the ball to slow down enough, and in the right part of the lane, to properly enter the 1-2 lefty pocket, and carry. The last thing I need, is a polished ball reducing the friction response and then going sideways when exiting the pattern--house or sport!
It's all relative... when the fronts start to go, if you've got lower tilt and/or slower ball speed and the ball start to stand up too soon, then the shiny stuff is exactly what you want.
Hi Luis I got a Iq tour ruby as well like yours is it ok to change from reacta gloss to 4K fast finish how would it react on lanes whenever it’s on fresh condition nor beat up lane transition
My exotic gem looked pretty good out of box with the reacta gloss finish, I was looking to round out the shape so I knocked off the reacta gloss with a 2000 pad. Wasn't a huge fan of the motion after that so now I've got about 4-5 games and its getting some lane shine on it and the reaction is much better.
I usually remove the factory gloss on polished pearls by stair-stepping the ball from 500 to 4000. I find that this gives me good length and backend while it reduces the potential for over-under reactions, particularly on walled-up house shots.
I got an original IQ for my first ball. Not in league yet. Ball was hooking like snap hooking from looking good down the lane and hitting 7 pin. Got a pitch black and had my first two games in a row over 200!!! Great videos!
It depends on the ball . My old faithful as a junior was my faball blue pearl hammer urethane so I had to create the hook I liked it with the lane shine it had after 10 years of use as a spare ball from my dad . Lane shine awesome when it was really dry for length but when your the only lefty and go to your urethane ball you know like the back of your hand like me with my blue pearl hammer urethane I sanded it to 500 trucut and loved it more then with the shine . But i like my solids polished as well especially my hyroad x.
Looks good at 3000... a good compromise might be a 5000pd from CTD. I might do that with my Revenant. Still waiting to see a Phaze 4/5 up against the Ruby.
Hi Luis, Don’t say never, because it must be nice to bowl in a proper house with a real oil pattern. My house never has enough oil on the lane to allow us to throw dull balls. Heck they don’t even start oiling until 2 feet pass the foul line so everything starts hooking as soon as you throw it. Ken
Ugh...I despise places that just don't care about doing things properly. Not oiling the first couple of feet to save a few bucks is pathetic. Would you patronize a hospital that decided to do surgery in a tent in the parking lot because it's cheaper than turning on the lights in the operating room? And then people wonder why their businesses fail...smh.
@@notonyourlife7939 they do it because they have too many open bowlers walk up the lane, slip and fall. I am waiting for the USBC to re-rate the leagues to Challenge leagues.
@@Ken_Leivonen Lol... Well I'm willing to accept that somebody at the center actually told you that...but that's what's called "plausible deniability". It might sound reasonable at first blush... and it might even keep most peopke from bitching about the ball hooking at their toes. B ut unless your area is populated by an unusual number of spastic half-wits who can't manage to bowl without falling on their a$$, then whomever told you that is full of $hit. Think about it...assume a typical 42' house shot, right? Two feet less oil per lane is ~5% less oil than they would otherwise use... they're doing it to save a buck. Period. Oil is expensive, and they use a lot of it... far more than in years past, as the balls continue to get ever stronger. They're looking to cut overhead. Every bowling center is America has the "You might break yourself. Bowl at your own risk" signs plastered all over the place. No center has ever gonna out of business because some twit crossed the foul line and crippled themselves.
I finally bought a Ruby and with the reacta-gloss I did NOT like the reaction on the house shot I was on. Too snappy off the dry, too skiddy through the puddle. The shot was very wet/dry but the look wasn't there. After league I did a hand sand at 4000 and threw some practice and it was AMAZING! 1000% agree that a little surface is GREAT on this ball
I haven’t thrown a single storm ball but i’m going tomorrow to get a Phaze II and a IQ tour ruby drilled up. I have a feeling these 2 balls are gonna be my league arsenal for awhile
Louis, after throwing my im with you. It seemed like it would be too clean through the oil and react too hard off the dry. I hit it with 3000 then 4000...is that the same way you did yours?
You are literally the main reason why I'm going to get this ball now!! Also, what do you think of that Berry Slash smell? Is it better/same as the Fate?
I took a 2000 pad by hand then a light coat of CTD polish, both by hand. First 3 full games over 2 different nights of league it gets me over 700….I don’t score that high. Only threw it twice with the stock finish….flat 10s both times.
No two balls will ever react exactly the same... that being said, how much difference you'll see will largely depend on your game... speed, tilt, rotation, etc.
I love the look of the Ruby without that Reacta Gloss. I recently got an Eternity, threw it for 10 mins in practice and instantly hit it with a 2000 to get the Gloss off and instantly fell in love. Not sure what it is but that Gloss just isn't working for me. Feels like the balls that have it are a bit too volatile in terms of reaction, either underhook or overhook, never in between. A lot more consistent once you get surface on it.

I want to throw the ball first than make a surface change if it needs it. I want to the the ball first and let my older brother see how the ball motion is and if he say it needs a surface change i will do do it
No polish ever for me. It ALWAYS leads to garbage over/under reaction. Depending on what I think the ball is slotted for I'll tell them to break the polish off and set it to 4K or 3K if I want it shinier or 2K if it seems like it wants to be a ball for earlier.
I hope i dont jinx this but i seem to bowl better with polished balls i bowled my first 300 game with out of the box finish with the ruby i think im good😂
@@LuisNapoles I'm on CTD national staff so I try to use their products, but as far as polish is concerned I usually prefer more surface so I just knock the polish off of any balls that I buy with polish on them with a light scuffing with a 2k trucut pad.
But that is why they have a IQ Solid, the Pearl is supposed to be used when they start to transition. Balls are like golf clubs, they are tools to be used in specific situations. You would not pull out the driver if you were 50 feet from the green. Use your equipment as intended, the ball manufacturer did all the work designing the line, use it to your advantage.
Same as golf clubs where you can alter the loft and lie angles to fit better where you want. Changing the surface on the IQ Ruby doesn't take it from a med-lower volume ball (9 iron) to a heavy volume ball.(4 iron) It just alters where the motion phases occur
Adding surface to the Ruby doesnt make it a solid. At the same surface as the solid it will still be cleaner and more pop down lane. The OOB finish is designed for sales and marketing. Just look at the pros and tell me how many of them will throw the Ruby or any pearl really with polish
High key.... scraping off the hard finish makes the ball soft causing better pin carry also with more grip on the surface the more it will send the pins flying as it grips the pins surface more. Think about it people it's cheating!!
If you gotta change the ball surface then you are not a good bowler IMO (which means little to nothing) and you cant be a good ball rep as you can't even pick a ball for yourself to be able to dominate on multiple patterns or lanes. I been arguing alot at leagues with other players because of the dust on the floors and complaining of sliding on approach after tracking all that dust and it really started because IF I CANT EVEN CLEAN my ball in between shots or frames without people complaining then people shouldn't be changing WHOLE surface in between shots or frames or games the fact pros are pushing this more is becoming a problem.... I mean what are the big companies ball designers doing at this point?! USBC and PBA should banned it DURING gameplay idgaf if I have to change balls and move using the equipment designed to MY specs drilled tips color surface core then wtf??? its my unaltered* equipment and skills vs others unaltered equipment and skills.
It is already illegal to change surface once the first scoring ball is thrown. This includes cleaning with more than a dry towel/shammy. Just because you don't understand how it works, doesn't mean it's wrong.
I got the Ruby the other day and wasn't given me the good look like my IQ Tour Emerald (length, late sharp hook from the far right to the pocket) good information 🎳👍👍
