- Out of nowhere Meta Just announced the first Tracked accessory for the Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest 3, in collaboration with Logitech, to use in addition to our controllers. This is a big shift for Meta, can this be the first of Many? Also we can finally buy the Quest 3 for cheaper! and unfortunately we have some bad news about the other collaboration, for the next gen headset.
Let's get into it!

What kind of tracked accessory would you like to see?? - I'll go first. Please give me a rifle!
🍆 tracker
Name tags
Third party controllers
Simply supporting already-existing accessories like HOTAS and steering wheels would be sufficient for many gamers. Creating a widget app for Stream Deck, or even better, a Stream Deck as a widget app. For now I couldn't use camera connected via HDMI capture card anywhere, just in the USB Camera app (but not during calls etc). Now Meta has issues even with supporting standard keyboards - the keyboard layout language that worked on Quest 2 is not functioning on Quest 3 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Just don't forget: Accessory is pronounced as AK-SEssory. There is no "aSSEssory".
I’ve been wanting a pen. Finally!
The stylus will be really useful for my automotive design job. I will use it for starting gravity sketch models and for making notes in presentations.
ya ok
Since I first started using VR, I've wanted a tracked cozy to put drinks in. Fitness and social apps are the most obvious usecases, but really every app could benefit if you didn't have to leave your headset everytime you want something to drink.
I already track my water bottle. It's easy.
@@FlameSoulis How?
@@FlameSoulis I'd love to know that too.
@@IanDeMartino Same way I track my Guitar Hero controller, Steamdeck, and chair: I use trackers.
While in Resonite, the trackers are visible, and those models can be swapped with anything. I wrote a script that automates this, so I can turn on my waterbottle and the model will appear in VR while following the object. Likewise, everyone else sees the same thing, so this isn't a local only affair (Though, I could modify it to do so).
"But how do you know where to put the waterbottle back down?"
Easy: Virtual coaster. When the model is activated, it will spawn a cylinder that appears on the bottom. It won't move with the model, but the coaster will remain attached to my local space, so I can still move in the VR world and know where to put it back.
@@FlameSoulis That sounds really cool, but most people don't have lighthouse and extra vive trackers for that. This video was about tracked Quest accessories.
LG is a key company for the advancement of XR; they can produce 4k Micro OLED displays for half the price of the ones made by Sony. This is crushing news for enthusiasts.
Remember, the issue with tracking legs will not be solved on a Quest just by adding a tracker that's tracked by IR just like this pen because the cameras don't see down there. If they did, meta would have implemented the tracking with cameras in the first place (like they did for the upper body)
however, you can use IMU based trackers (even right now), they just tend to drift over time so their accuracy isn't that great and they require regular calibration
True, but they have the quest pro controllers tech for it ;)
Meta quest pro controllers use multiple cameras. Meta could do this if they wanted to, but they dont want to create a divide between leg and legless users
@@Tyrielwood true but having used the quest pro controllers, they're horrible. Very common complaint online, they work amazing for like 50% of people and barely work for the rest :/
I'm assuming IMU based trackers have something the quest pro controllers where they don't need to be seen by the headset. If that's the case, couldn't they just calibrate the position automatically whenever the headset sees the IR emitters, even if it's just intermittently? Seems like a close enough to flawless solution.
@@sergemarlon This could work but the issue is that would require a collaboration of hardware and software, which only meta could accomplish, and why would they when they could just shove the pro controllers into a smaller box and use far more accurate slam tracking with cameras
I look forward to the stylus - but what I really also miss for productivity is the weird fact that Meta does not support non US keyboard layouts on Bluetooth keyboards. This completely breaks apps like Immersed or VR Virtual Desktop :(. It sounds like such a minor and trivial thing to implement, but they just dont do it.
All they need to do is release a version with a display port and the quest 3 would be super awesome.
i think thuis is super cool, if we can get trackers on the quest nativly then the next steps will be so cool
i was waiting for a Stylus like that since Wacom showed their Prototype a few years ago. Especially for Productivity and creative Apps this kind of Controller was missing. You need this for precise handling of virtual tools, Pens, Brushes..etc. So i will get it a soon as possible.
Now my boy back on track
Substance Modeler is going to be supported too.

Tracked Fleshlight. You don't have to call it that - just make it a small curved tracker with a velcro strap and let the people use it as they will. Accuracy and low latency will be key. You can demonstrate it attached to a bunch of normal things (like water bottles) to conceal its true purpose. 😂
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I like this
I hope there's an app that can use this to paint 3d models, particularly 3mf models for colored 3d printing.
Full body tracking with partial body estimation when can’t see the infrared LEDs. I saw the comments about too much distance from the headset to the feet but is really easy to compensate that, for example making a 3 groups of 3 infrared LEDs so they look bigger and also triangular shapes make it easier to track.
Is a dream but would be an amazing to have 100% native full body tracking on quest. And is totally possible but far away at the same time.
Very excited for the stylus and the future apps that will work with it down the line XD
I want generic trackers, like air tags, that you can attach to anything and then tell the headset what it is and then adjust is angle to match the position of the tracker. That would be sick. It can be used for body parts or other arbitrary items.
I would use it to create 3d models. Is there any in vr which is usable to build 3d buildings with ease? I don't like gravity scatch...
Let’s just strap styluses to our body for body tracking
Seems like hand tracking could use our finger as the stylus & adjust the tip sharpness to a point on the screen.
Only thing we would miss are haptics, which can be a great thing..
The issue with Q3's tracking is that it needs hand tracking data for an accurate estimation, they don't make for good body trackers. Quest 2's controllers are better for this, since they rely solely on the infrared ring (I in fact use them to track my feet in VRChat)
I was 100% sure Apple was going to release a 1mm-precision tracked pencil. But it's for Quest???
What is interesting is Logitech had/has a SteamVR Tracked Pen with a weird Eyehole shape in the back.
It was just never released to consumers, only developers.
Great, now we need an rifle, smg, pistol, sniper, lmg, shotgun, etc and other things like subnautica being native on quest (for quest 2, pro and 3) and an great port from assetto corsa (pc) to quest 2 pro and 3, with every car control being compative with fingers and cross play, it would be damn good, also we need logitech, trustmaster and others wheels and other accesories compatible with quest (like logitech g hub) and an possibility to run .exe on quest, it would be awesome
Honestly, the quest pro is pretty great as is, it was just the price that was out of whack. if they just gave it the new chip and the updated MR cameras from the Q3 and maked a Quest Pro Plus or something like that, it would be pretty great
Pro is suck and worst headset to play or use
@@gomersimpson777ram I still use pro over 3, its great
What's good for sure its price isn't breaking the bank.
I used Meta Workrooms while it was good, then you could use the controller as a kind of stylus and I did like it, so a stylus made to be a stylus is something I would love, but I wish folk had not have "april-tag phobia", if they could send pre made april-tags for a canvas surface I am sure the tracking had been better than it actually is. Just look, whenever companies like Meta demo something like how fast you can type on a virtual keyboard, there will be a april-tag somewhere for they can help with millimeter precision.
Wow
Legs!!!! Why can't we have leg sensors. I don't need a pen. This ain't 'Death Note'
ive been waiting for a stylus for years now. Finnnally. And its affordable too! They had their beta for a long time, but it was..... $700, lmao.
I wish they just would make eye tracking on the Q3 and stop wasting my time. Foveated rendering would be a major game changer, but kinda hard to justify if only 3 or 4 headsets have it.
I just want an official gunstock, why is that so hard???
How on earth can they track such a small thing, with no ring or disk at the top for the infra red lights?
The Q3 uses the hand tracking data to compensate for the missing infrared LEDs :3
@@manolobiene Did you actually read that somewhere? I find it hard to believe because hand tracking is not super accurate most times
@@lemovision the way I understand it is that the controllers use their accelerometer + gyro to do most of the heavy lifting, and then use the LED array (and hand tracking) to compensate for drift
What about AI voice commands? TELL VR what you want it to.do.for you!
Would this work with OneNote?
that would be incredible!
@@Tyrielwood I'm only gonna get this if it does work with OneNote. I wanna see if I can convert my Quest 3 into a Surface Pro with a Bluetooth Keyboard and Pen.
While I watch the video, my mind wonders back to "why is that girl painting on a real canvas? ...🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔"
The stylus doesn't do it for me, I suffer from horrible handwriting skills but opening the platform to other gadgets sounds exciting
what happened to using the end of the controller as a point device?
The quest pro already has it technically why dies it need it
We need trackers for feet.
This is so f*cking awesome 😎
i dont think Logi has ever manufactured an accessory thats cost them more than ten bucks.
Sponsored by Logitech - I think you should disclose this if the case...
I thought you were hinting at a price drop. That was a little click-baity. If you buy the refurbished ones you probably won't get Asgard's Wrath 2 either, which most people would probably get, so no value at all.
LOL beat apple again the AVP update was a joke
❤
under 200 bucks!!
Yey !!! i can walk into a New York store and steal it and they cant arrest me 😉
"Americans" 🤣😭
I'm happy the Quest Pro got cancelled. The first one was an expensive flop, and we got much cheaper and much more powerful headset not that long after (Quest 3). It's even better in some aspects than that Apple "thing" 😂
I want them to focus on Quest 3 and Quest 4. This is where the future is. Keep perfecting this. You found the console already. You have created your VR "Xbox/PlayStation", so just keep focusing on it and keep pouring money and dev time into this.
Idk why tracked things arent normal yet. Example; just make phones display a qr code and then boom you cab use your phone in vr, it is now a tracked device. Oh dont wanna use qr? Okay cool, phones have everything we already need to do this without qr codes, so again, no excuses, just lazy companies
Don't worry, the porn industry will come up with a few things.
all im wanting from this is a harry potter wizzard dule game that becomes an esport haha
I can't listen to this guy, work on your accent
