People shit on Betty for her tendency to drop important things just to be with Simon and Simon's tendency to stop Betty from going on said Important things, calling it unhealthy or "kinda" toxic, but I think we forget that these are people who are inherently boring. Simon is a Professor and Antiquarian, but nobody takes him seriously nor cares about his studies. He has low self esteem, barely what can be considered a social life, and the only time somebody was ever excited about meeting him, it was seen as weird, kind of labeling him as a loser. Betty was a scientist, but she didn't have a lover, her own house, no real accomplishments, i mean, she turned down a book credit because she didnt think she deserved it. They both lived kind of lonely, boring lives. Simon, who easily lets his dreams be squashed and lets people kind of walk all over him, stands in somebody's way to get what he wants. Betty, who is willing to jump at chances for exciting things to happen to her, lets one go in exchange for an anchor, something that forces her to stay still for a minute. They both have flaws, but I think they know how to overcome them, and do it out of passion rather than not caring about the affects of their actions. Their relationship isn't really one of codependency , but more so one of "reason." Simon was the reason she didn't take the bus. He's the reason she moved out of the house she shared with her roommate. She fell in love with him, because of him. He is the reason she went crazy and sacrificed herself. Betty was the reason for how he got down that hill, across the river and found the Enchirideon. She's the reason that he caused a scene. She's the reason why he stood up for what he wanted. She's most likely the reason why he was such a good father to Marceline, causing him to be a more sentimental, caring person. She's the reason he's the way he is in Fionna and Cake. Betty is the reason Simon will never move on, and become Ice King Again. I don't think they are unhealthy, I don't think they are unhealthy people. Simon is grieving an important part of his life, one that was so incredibly important to his character growth.
You understand this plot with far more emotional depth than most. They were never holding each other back; they were each other's destination. Everything that happened that kept them apart only made that journey longer; it's not a matter of health because they don't see it that way it's just a matter of how far their love for each other extends.
Ngl i looked to betty bad first but then i started to see im doing the same for my crush. And it hurts so much She crushed her whole life to existence of godlike power with nothing left to let him be him Her love is letting go.... of her own self with nothing else to give but her own life in the end we see she gave her life to future simon/ice kind and become fully insane to help trying to accept but seeing she can succeed she cant help but do it to have him in the end at golb theres nothing left of her. I feel like it might be me in the end that i gave everything up for him my own time my sanity my life in the end..... He's the reason i didn't make my own life with friends and everything and be his friends. But its so hard to leave him I dont want to leave him its so hard. I understand completely why Ice King wanted so much his princess Why Betty went to lenghts of madness and even end of the world in order to save Simon They are just pure love, and this echoes even a thousand years later
While this scene is beautiful, I can’t help but see how Betty drops every for Simon to be with him and support him , and continues too until she’s the embodiment of Chaos . I have a feeling she’s not going to let simon put that crown back on , I’m not ready for the emotions :’(
@@temutemaculari think simon managed to open a portal to golbetty, considering the final thing he thought of was better and he siphoned more magic from the lich, who is the last scholar of golb

Their love story is so sweet this shit still makes me cry those two were meant for eachother and it makes it even sadder how Betty sacrificed everything so Ice King could return back to Simon dang man this episode has to be my favorite episode in the series 😭😭
they weren't perfect but they were human, in another world they could have had therapy or even just grown together as individuals. the apocalypse took that from them.
I don’t think therapy would be necessary, their main problem was always the crown, if they had never found it they probably would have been a happy couple meant for each other since their only “unhealthy” couple dynamic is Betty’s impulsivity combined with her tendency of prioritizing Simon over everything without Simon realizing. Apart from that the only thing that stopped them from being together were external forces beyond their control
Had the Mushroom War not happened, Simon and Betty would have seen the world together. They would have seen her petroglyphs and found his different antiquities.
I was DYING when I watched this for the first time, I’m glad no one else was home because I kept shouting like “nooooo!! not the outback petroglyphs trip!! NOOOOO YOU’RE GONNA MAKE HER MISS THE BUS!!”
Well yeah, but knowing Betty’s character she would literally drop anything for Simon, including her own consciousness to Golb, so I really think it was her decision and it just flew over Simons head
Even though I love their relationship, there is some kind of "unhealthiness" around it. Like, first thing, Beth abandoned an entire field trip just to stay with Simon for that moment. 1000 years later, Simon creates a time portal just to talk to Beth, and she just travels 1000 years in the future just to kiss him, which ended up triggering a series of unfortunate events after. Then Beth starts to make deals with Magic Man, a crearly insane man just so she can make Simon normal and end up becoming insane. Then Beth became a literal embodiment of Chaos and Evil just to save Simon. Then Simon passes the next 16 years like a sad lonely loser trying to find her, just to imprison Choose Goose and torture him for the sake of bring her back (yeah goose was evil but still it is wrong). Doing this, he triggered all kinds of events that led to him, Fionna and Cake being chased down and messing things across the multiverse. Its just sad that they both are willingly hurt themselves and even others for the sake of being with each other, they cannot move on past their relationship and keep going after it like some kind of organ they cannot live without it. They should learn more about self-love and self-respect, because they both are their own individuals, they are not just their love and they should know that for being able to be happy with each other, they should first be able to be happy alone.
I think you are overanalyzing it a bit. All couples have flaws, and sometimes is just hard to notice them in your partner. However, having flaws isn't the same as having a bad relationship or something unhealthy. We are all human, we have our flaws, there is no such thing as a perfect match. They aren't hurting themselves willingly, they are in grief, which is very different. It is normal for them to go through those stages, it's a part of processing the loss of someone, it doesn't justify any wrongdoings, but it's the explanation to part of their behavior, this only explains why their relationship wasn't toxic, it was just two people being in denial after losing someone important in their lives Simon did not "trigger" any events, not willingly, he didn't ask to be chased down along with Fionna and Cake, that was Prismo's doing for making that unauthorized universe and hiding it in Ice King. Blaming him for that as a consequence of his, twice, failed ritual doesn't make any sense. He doesn't have the fault for having a universe in his head and being unaware of it because he doesn't remember Ice King saying yes Imo the point of Fionna and Cake is Simon learning self-love and self-respect, based on what the show is trying to communicate. Simon is not a "sad lonely loser" as you described him. He's a man that is experiencing grief because he lost someone very dear to him. Which is a completely normal and human reaction as I said before, some people can take *years* or a lifetime to accept a loss, there's no shame in it. Not to mention that now that Simon is living without the curse, he's experiencing a *loss of identity* which is more serious and doesn't make him a loser. Also, the importance of Simon is remarked in the show. For example, in the vampire timeline we can clearly see how a small gesture of kindness and love led to Marceline to become a vampire hunter and ensure a future without vampires hunting humans. Simon doesn't notice how important is he, but he will in time after that experience and I bet it is going to be a important step to be aware of the mistakes they did and accept he lost Betty
@LHuxlux man, being years or even a lifetime in grief INS'T HEALTHY AT ALL. Hurting yourself and others for the sake of grief ins't healthy too. Simon clearly has a lot of lack of self admiration (which we aggre). He can't live with himself and can't find himself in this new world, which led to the fact that he passes over a decade trying to find Beth back. He wants to cut corners and uses Beth search to give him a purpose. Simon was dealing with evil magic from evil entities he doens't understood and he didn't seem to care about the repercussions that would sure come to it. Of course, things would go south, just like Beth turning into Magic Woman, which led to the Elementals saga. Even without doing on purpose, they are always dealing with things they don't understand for the sake of their lack of copping habilities. They always do things with good intentions, but of good intentions, hell is full. I am not overanalysing, I just stated what is almost obvious, but not everyone seems to talk about it. And I didn't say their relationship is unhealthy or bad, I said that I love their relationship but I know it has some kind of unhealthyness around it (that can be worked through like every normal person does) because I am not that childish to thinking perfect relationships exist.
@@josevictor2229 Grief is healthy, that's what you are not seeing. It's healthy because it's a natural and corrective emotional response to assume the loss of someone or even something regardless the time, what is unhealthy about grief is ignoring it and not seeking help and that's exactly Simon's problem, not grief itself. He's stuck in denial and negotiation because she's not gone, she's still there MAYBE he could bring her back if he does the ritual. He isolated himself from Marceline, he doesn't want to worry her (this is partially explained because he's afraid of hurting her like he did when the crown controlled him, but it triggers that isolation) Again, Simon is also dealing with a loss of identity as well, which can make him cling onto the past, this is a habit that he developed years after Adventure Time's ending and probably it was starting in Obsidian (because we see him cope by playing pretend being Ice King again). That's what is also pushing him to deal with evil magic more than being codependent. I don't think codependency is a topic they highlighted yet, but they did remarked the fact that he didn't mind being Ice King again once he knew he couldn't make the ritual after his second failed attempt, which is an indicator that probably the loss of identity is making him do that. This is why I cannot say that everything that Simon does wrong is because he loves Betty, that is oversimplifying the actual problem, which is that he's struggling with an actual dissociative disorder that leads him to most of his wrongdoings in Fionna and cake I think this makes more sense if we consider the episode named "Betty" in which Simon didn't want to take her to Ooo, he didn't want to bring her back (despite it was posible and they knew it, they wrote the book after all), he just wanted to open a portal to explain her what happened, she was the one that jumped in, and it was the right call that time, because she's the one that saved Simon's life TL;DR: Most of Simon's actions in Fionna and Cake can be explained because he's dealing with a loss of identity, which also makes him unable to process grief in a healthy way
@@LHuxluxWell said. Grief is a 5 stage process: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. A person can remain in one of those stages for any given amount of time, some never move on. I think this show is trying to convey that if you don't move on past your grief, it will consume you.
I mean actually yeah Stopped Betty from going to her trip, went mad when he got the crown, and then Betty didn't get any better and jumped at Simon through the portal
@@teawitch785 Right so there was a part where Betty was offering a way forward, and without even hearing her out Simon kinda brushed her off. On the way to confess to her, Betty's dormmate directly told him to make sure she gets on the bus. So he can't even feign ignorance about Betty's goals. (But he did anyway) Sure, Betty puts herself under Simon, but Simon himself hardly even questions it. And when you contrast it with GumLee's whole mutral and reciprocal care for each other/each other's life goals. Then all the pieces start falling into place. Now don't mistake me, I want to be wrong. I want them to be wholesome and sweet, it's just..I'm seeing the writing on the walls.
I wish for from the crown to have my own kind of Betty. Simon found and she accepted him for who is and he a good person. As for me im like Simon only not a scholar and a advanced mind. Im just a gamer and it would be nice finally find my player two aiding me by my side. But a wish wont happen. But will all need true love in our lives to to feel special. How i envy these two Simon and Betty.
Now I'm wondering what the age difference is between Simon and Betty. If she was a student and he had been a doctor for a few years how old is Betty? We have a rough estimate for Simon's age, as he was 47 when he met Marcy, but we don't know how long it was between this and the Mushroom War.
@@Fleta_Maughner wiki said he's currently 58 or so, in original adventure time show, he was 46. but that really isn't reliable given that we dont really know how long they've been dating before simon put on the crown.
I'd guess 5-10 years, as a grad student Betty was probably around 30 and as a professor with a book already out I'd say Simon was probably mid to late thirties.
Also weird to see blood in what was once a show targeted to kids. Which I understand because those kids are now grown. It's just weird to see after all this time.
eh, i don’t really think simons a bad boyfriend. he was kind of a loser wasn’t he? he just let people step on him without really complaining or anything. betty did drop everything because perhaps that trip and her roommate was sorta all she had. simon didn’t drop much because his job was all he had and that was sort of what brought them together. babbette did specify that betty shouldn’t miss the buss but i think simon let his feelings get in the way, plus betty would just go if she’d rather do that then stay with simon. i think the best ending would’ve happened if simon went on the bus with betty. otherwise happy endings are pretty much impossible. he would’ve died in the mushroom war if he didn’t find the crown and yet betty had to go because he found the crown. if he went on the bus, they’d just be happy in australia but he wouldn’t have met marceline. or it would’ve been happier if the crown wasn’t like that in the first place. as mentioned in an episode revealing gunthers past life where he wished to be like whatever the guy who made the crown was named, if he had just made a better wish with less of a curse simon could’ve still had the power to save him and betty without going crazy or loosing anyone. i don’t think being the ice king was simons fault in any way. those dumb young dudes, simon and betty didn’t really even think about the better options when acting. he was kind of aware of what was happening at some point, him complaining about the illusions and voices etc. in episodes like holly jolly secrets. maybe this would’ve been solved if he somehow found betty and she as a scientist helped him? but i don’t really think so. the golb ending was unexpected though, as i think it was weird for such a smartie like betty tp believe it would be possible to destroy golb.
@@vicons_ It's not cause of gender. Why is everyone obsessed with gender? Lmao! It's cause Fionna is outgoing and spontaneous whereas Simon is reserved. Betty is a bland character.

TL;DR: Most of Simon's actions in Fionna and Cake can be explained because he's dealing with a loss of identity, which also makes him unable to process grief in a healthy way
I feel like i'm looking at 2 therapist rn and i have to guess who is the fake one
I just melted with love for them, I just want this to end well 😢
I also liked the scene with the snakes.
YESSSS SIMON FINALLY DID IT
AUUUGHHH THOSE MFS NEED A HAPPY ENDING!!! THEY ARE SO CUTE EANCH OTHER JDIDKDOSUSUS
why it feels like I'm watching a drama 😭😭😭
Simon is healing😊
This is in the past
I definitely feel like this is gonna go in a "Simon was a bad boyfriend actually " ending
So, for now, I'm going to enjoy this moment
more like he didn't notice how concerning betty's tendencies to drop everything to be with him were
I mean actually yeah
Stopped Betty from going to her trip, went mad when he got the crown, and then Betty didn't get any better and jumped at Simon through the portal
@@temutemacularthe crown thing wasn't his fault though
I mean, Simon literally just saved Betty's life.
By stopping her from leaving, he saves her from dying to the Mushroom War.

They didn't need magic to make it magical😥
so that was the full story that Simon told a long time ago.....👍
What a bittersweet couple I adore
That was so beautiful 🥺
It’s weird to hear what is essentially SpongeBob saying @ss

cheers is a 90s show
Can’t lie, I thought so too lol
girls don't really wear sweaters casually in the 1940s, i think

I wish for from the crown to have my own kind of Betty. Simon found and she accepted him for who is and he a good person. As for me im like Simon only not a scholar and a advanced mind. Im just a gamer and it would be nice finally find my player two aiding me by my side. But a wish wont happen. But will all need true love in our lives to to feel special. How i envy these two Simon and Betty.
Doesn't it bother you that Betty's eyeglass frames in the newspaper are different from Simon's memories?
I do not like where thats going

1:04 Dude you could've just gone inside and asked
I hear the SpongeBob in every single word 💀💀💀💀
I wish Betty went on the research trip, hell maybe take Simon with her!
Thisvwas cute what the fuck
Now I'm wondering what the age difference is between Simon and Betty. If she was a student and he had been a doctor for a few years how old is Betty? We have a rough estimate for Simon's age, as he was 47 when he met Marcy, but we don't know how long it was between this and the Mushroom War.
I would say he was most likely in his late 20's/early 30's when he became a professor. Betty was definitely in her 20's that's for sure.
@@Fleta_Maughner wiki said he's currently 58 or so, in original adventure time show, he was 46. but that really isn't reliable given that we dont really know how long they've been dating before simon put on the crown.
@@Fleta_Maughner holy fukin shet fionna is in her 30s
I'd guess 5-10 years, as a grad student Betty was probably around 30 and as a professor with a book already out I'd say Simon was probably mid to late thirties.
@@BE-fw1lr I just said he was 58 in current timeliness of fiona and cake show.
Still so weird to hear casual cussing.
Also weird to see blood in what was once a show targeted to kids. Which I understand because those kids are now grown. It's just weird to see after all this time.
He made her miss that bus
LOVE ITTT❤

eh, i don’t really think simons a bad boyfriend. he was kind of a loser wasn’t he? he just let people step on him without really complaining or anything. betty did drop everything because perhaps that trip and her roommate was sorta all she had. simon didn’t drop much because his job was all he had and that was sort of what brought them together. babbette did specify that betty shouldn’t miss the buss but i think simon let his feelings get in the way, plus betty would just go if she’d rather do that then stay with simon. i think the best ending would’ve happened if simon went on the bus with betty. otherwise happy endings are pretty much impossible. he would’ve died in the mushroom war if he didn’t find the crown and yet betty had to go because he found the crown. if he went on the bus, they’d just be happy in australia but he wouldn’t have met marceline. or it would’ve been happier if the crown wasn’t like that in the first place. as mentioned in an episode revealing gunthers past life where he wished to be like whatever the guy who made the crown was named, if he had just made a better wish with less of a curse simon could’ve still had the power to save him and betty without going crazy or loosing anyone. i don’t think being the ice king was simons fault in any way. those dumb young dudes, simon and betty didn’t really even think about the better options when acting. he was kind of aware of what was happening at some point, him complaining about the illusions and voices etc. in episodes like holly jolly secrets. maybe this would’ve been solved if he somehow found betty and she as a scientist helped him? but i don’t really think so. the golb ending was unexpected though, as i think it was weird for such a smartie like betty tp believe it would be possible to destroy golb.
He wasn't a loser. Those people were just disrespectful, and it's not like he could just start scolding everyone at that presentation.

Nah! Unpopular ship but I ship Simon with Fionna. It's like total opposites.
just because they're big roles and opposite genders doesn't mean they should be together💀
@@vicons_ It's not cause of gender. Why is everyone obsessed with gender? Lmao! It's cause Fionna is outgoing and spontaneous whereas Simon is reserved. Betty is a bland character.
@@tired351that's tye point. She only did what Simon wanted to do which made her seem bland, but she is more. Also Simon is like 1000s of years old and Fionna is 29 technically
@@Lilusisu11so.. um she is of legal age??
@@annusharma8225 Why do you agree on that 😭
i really wish the show would address how unhealthy their relationship was. yes its cute and yes they care about each other but they had some major codependency issues that i feel like could make the show really interesting if they were seriously brought up.
