He holds up the watch and says "this watch," then freezes for about 8 seconds. He gets a deer-in-the-headlights look in his eyes, says "this watch" again, then completes the scene.
Oddly (or timely) enough, I've been reading all the diaries of Michael Palin during all the MP years. I would like to think that this would have made it into his notes WHILE THERE. I was going to comment about this, that I doubt it was an error...as all other things about the MP movies, private moments, etc., are all in Palin's books. This is not in there.

I need 5 minutes of the narrator describing the day leading up to the moment, who all the actors were and what role they had and what awards they won prior, then ease me into the scene with full exposition and context, THEN describe word for word the mistake that was made ... and then show half the clip with the actual scene taking place in the background of the narration.

In fact, Ron Perlman nearly ruined the take with his effusive response, and they had to mute him or do some creative editing of some sort to be able to use the take, and even then, the camera didn't pan up high enough to capture the ball's entire trajectory in frame. To sum up -- never underestimate Sigourney Weaver.
I find it hilarious that one of the best goofs in Knight's Tale was caused by my compatriots not understanding the language of the movie they were filming :D I totally thought it was simply a genius comedic writing. I didn't even know the movie was filmed here.

It's a multimillion dollar Hollywood production. Everything is planned out in meticulous detail because of immensely high cost of production and filming. Just think of the logistics involved in coordinating the transportation and feeding of all those extras on set that day of shooting alone. It's entirely implausible that there was no cue for the non-English speaking crowd to know when to start cheering. I suppose the director just forgot that little detail. Maybe they were all just hanging out that day with a few guys roaming around with handheld cameras hoping to get some authentic, candid crowd shots

So there was definitely at least some confusion. But I guess it is completely impossible to screw up a cue. Something like that is much more important than... I don't know... making sure a gun isn't loaded so someone doesn't get shot! (Crow, Rust. Just in case you don't get the sarcasm) All kinds of mistakes happen all the time. Even in high budget movies.

I'm sure Addy could well have goaded the extras into cheering after a missed cue, but they definitely added a few extra shots and edited it up beautifully. Bettanay's moment of dismay at the silence and then sidelong glare out to Addy for help, and the panning shot of quietly frowning spectators, would surely have to been added as follow up shots and resequenced to make the joke have extra punch. I do agree you can see the extras begin to cheer and then tuck back when no one else joins in.
The Princess Diaries. Anne Hathaway slips and falls while walking down some wet bleachers and cackles with surprised laughter. They even kept "Are you okay??? I'm fine, I'm fine" in the final shot.

A Knights Tale is one of my fave movies. Addy's improv seemed like it was totally part of the script, with the modern music and other modern details here and there throughout the movie. Also, I must be blind as a bat. Star Wars IS my fave movie of all time...seen it 50+ times and I never noticed the storm trooper knocking his head on the doorway. 🙃
Django unchained: DeCaprio cut himself hitting a piece of bone, but stayed in character while bleeding all over the table. Made the scene even more powerful.

Love it when they include great improvisations. Jim Carrey has many including Count Olaf in "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" when Jim Carrey literally forgot his line and did a retake while in character and it was kept in the film. Or in "The Grinch" when he perfectly pulled a sheet off of a table and everything stayed on unintentionally and he improvised by going back to the table and using his arms to slide everything off.

One of my favorite bloopers being left in the Final Cut is the Taxi Scene from “Midnight Cowboy” and the famous, “I’m walking here!” From Dustin Hoffman. The jerk driver didn’t realize they were filming and almost hit the 2 actors but Hoffman stayed in character and pulled off the scene perfectly.
The funniest part about John Malkovich getting beaned with a beer can thrown by an extra is perhaps not even that it got included in the film, but that rather than get in trouble; the drunk extra actually got more money since they had to pay him for a speaking role…
harrison Ford bringing a gun to a knife fight also: Breakfast club: a huge amount of that was guided improv. The confession scene: they were only given the rough reason, then adlibbed the entire scene. The fist pump at the end, the blonde woman joke, also, if i remember correctly: the dance scene: only Molly was supposed to dance but she wasn't comfortable with it so the other two chimed in.
Drawing the pistol and shooting the swordsman wasn't a blooper or an improv, it was a script change at the last minute because Ford had horrid guts during filming

Another blooper that made the cut was in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. In the scene where Chevy Chase destroys the reindeer, he was only meant to hit them but after breaking a hand he improvised and kicked them to finish the scene.
The Being John Malkovich extra had no scripted lines, was mic'd up, was drinking beer on set & assaulting one of the film's stars earned them a pay increase instead of a trip to jail? That's less believable than the plot to Being John Malkovich
The over over the top scene in 1917 is some of the best cinema of all time. Watching that on the big screen I felt like I was holding my breath and my heart was in my mouth. So intense. Absolutely loved it. Imo should have won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The fist pump at the end, the blonde woman joke, also, if i remember correctly: the dance scene: only Molly was supposed to dance but she wasn't comfortable with it so the other two chimed in.
Drawing the pistol and shooting the swordsman wasn't a blooper or an improv, it was a script change at the last minute because Ford had horrid guts during filming

Another blooper that made the cut was in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. In the scene where Chevy Chase destroys the reindeer, he was only meant to hit them but after breaking a hand he improvised and kicked them to finish the scene.

The Being John Malkovich extra had no scripted lines, was mic'd up, was drinking beer on set & assaulting one of the film's stars earned them a pay increase instead of a trip to jail? That's less believable than the plot to Being John Malkovich

The over over the top scene in 1917 is some of the best cinema of all time. Watching that on the big screen I felt like I was holding my breath and my heart was in my mouth. So intense. Absolutely loved it. Imo should have won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
