If you think Michael Jordan has a case to be the number 1 NBA player of all time, or you rank him somewhere near the top, or you go by rings, or if you do any of the things that only a Michael Jordan fan would do, it's probably because of at least one of these things: Either you are uneducated about the NBA, or you are influenced by the media about Michael Jordan, or you are in love with Michael Jordan, or you are not that smart then...........................now................of course Michael Jordan fans will disagree. They don't get basic things then. So if any of you Michael Jordan fans want to prove me wrong, and debate me, you can do it on my podcast. If you would like to go on email TheTelephoneUniverse@Gmail.Com..................and now watch how most Michael Jordan fans will ignore all of this...............and they will type something negative then.

They changed NBA rules because of the ability of both Wilt and George Mikan. In Wilts case they made it so you could couldn’t jump past the free throw line and land in the key on a free throw and in Mikans case they both widened the key to minimize his dominance and instituted the shot clock after the Ft. Wayne Pistons held the ball all game resulting in the lowest scoring game in NBA history. If they have to change rules because of your talent, seems to me you’ve got a case for GOAT bragging rights. Also, in Mikans favor, was when he went to play the Knicks at MSG one time, the marquee said “George Mikan vs. Knicks” not “Lakers vs. Knicks”.

  • @MultiEviscerator

I have said for many years you cannot pick an overall GOAT in a sport that has different roles for different players. For example, many want to proclaim Tom Brady as the NFL GOAT, but you naturally think they are talking about QB, not receiver, center, TE, LB, etc.
So of course MJ was not the GOAT of the entire NBA, rather he would be my pick as the #1 starting shooting guard. My pick of point guard would be Magic, my small forward would be Bird, my power forward would be Malone or Duncan, and center would be Chamberlain. Who will beat them consistently?
Others could pick 5 completely different starting GOAT's of those positions, and it would be one heck of a treat to watch them in a 7 game series. HOWEVER, if my team won the series, or their team did, which individual player/s made the difference?
The point being that basketball like other team sports is made up of various specialists, and quality coaching that can put the puzzle together to win championships.

In 1961-62 he averaged 50.4 points per game while playing 48.5 minutes per game (compare that to today’s “fragile” athletes). Blocks were unofficial then but he averaged 8.8 per game in his career. He blocked Kareem 17 times in 1972. In 1968 in the same game he achieved 53 points, 32 rebounds, 24 blocks & 14 assists.

Hey Mr. W. I saw you courtside at the Jan 1974 game vs Notre Dame. I worked for the ND athletic dept. I waa a senior. Not to rub it in but I watched you put up your last two shots from about ten feet out that missed the mark as we broke your famous 88 game win streak. Also got to meet John Wooden. Sold his book "They call me coach" to the crowd. That has to be the only week we were ever ranked #1 - until we flew out to LA a week later for the return matchup and got our butts handed to us.

Wilts career stats! 30ppg 22 boards per game averaged 47 min per game! Even today, has the total NBA rebounding record!!! He is the best ever!! Not even close!!! 5000 yrs from now, Wilts records will be on top!!

Wilt only played 14 years. LeBron has played 5,271 years to catch Wilt and Kareem. Hardly an impressive achievement if you have to stick around for over 20 years to accomplish something. The mos mediocer player can set all the records if they play long enough. Now, LeBron is not a mediocre player, but for him to chaim GOAT status is absurd.

Wilt was a nice guy who didn’t want to injure or embarass guys. If he had Jordans killer instinct and todays modern health & wellness fitness regime... OMG who knows how long he’d of played!
