    In this building a fort in the woods video, I waterproof the fort roof, adding tarps and plastic, I am almost done enclosing the fort in the woods.
    I address the comments saying my fireplace will have issues, I frame out and build a window to the fort, and give an update, and video on Tripper.
    I hope you all enjoy!

      Joe I'm not sure if you're gonna read this, but for the door you could make a hole on the bottom log and the top and then fashion a door to a something like this: |III (have a longer piece of wood to act as a hinge) and then just insert the longer piece into the holes.That way you could just open and close it.
      English is my second language, so hopefully you can understand what I'm saying.

    Next episode should be chinking and clearing the surrounding cabin area of dead trees and branches so it's easier to shovel when it snows. Bring another "window" tarp to cover the inside of the ladder/door but leave the outside uncovered so you can still use it as a ladder. Besides that you could always stock up on firewood, bring some good food and maybe some whisky!

      at lot of it is experience. for one, wood all have unique smells. If you ever get the chance to smoke your own bbq youll start to identify that by smell alone, not just from burning wood, but even the dry or wet wood have a smell. Color is another factor in this, but to a lesser degree

    Wrap the tarp around the log the other way, then the snow will have nowhere to accumulate. Just an idea.

    • @mstrdiver
      @mstrdiver 3 года назад +15

      Great observation. If the snow blows as bad as I expect, snow weight accumulation against the tarp could just rip it down looking at the way it is currently configured at 36:05.
      - Wrapping the tarp around the log by going toward the outside will help shed more snow away from the fort and cause it to fill in the gap temporarily under the threshold log to help seal out some drafts.
      You can still drop the tarp from the top when you need more light for filming later on down the road. This is bringing out the kid in all of us when we used to go into "full scrounge mode" when building our own hidden places when growing up. -- Thanks Joe!
