I’m a history teacher in rural WV. I showed the inauguration in my classes, as I would have regardless of party.
WV is a 2+/1 Trump state. Many of my students’ beliefs and words on political issues come from what they hear at home.
However, this young lady captivated most of them regardless of beliefs. As I stood at the back of my room, I saw students who had earlier been upset that we were watching Biden’s inauguration, start to smile and have a look of awe on their faces. Most, I don’t think truly listened to the words but were in shock by someone so young, having such poise and presence on stage. Others, who I know were happy about the inauguration were listening to every word she said and they took it to heart.
The next day, I showed this to all of my classes that didn’t get a chance to see it the day before. I have a few black female students and I made a point to watch their reactions. I saw a change in all of them as Amanda spoke. You could see a change in posture, you could see their back straighten, their chins rise, and huge smiles on their faces, as they took it all in. I honestly had to step out in the hallway and wipe the tears from my face after witnessing this. I think they realized in that moment, they can do anything they want and shouldn’t feel held back by the people around them.
I couldn’t imagine being a young black female in rural America. I feel an obligation to show those students how much bigger the world is. I feel that showing them Amanda’s poem has been the biggest success yet.
Thank you for giving your Words and Wisdom to us, Amanda! You truly are changing the world one word at a time! You’ve made this 35yo, white male history teacher in rural America cry tears of happiness many times over the last few days. You’ve opened hearts of many and the eyes of young girls who are beginning to find their way!
    So much love to you!❤️

God gave His Son so we can live through Him and have everlasting life. God loves you! Believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and be saved!
This is the Gospel of your salvation
      1 Corinthians 15: 1-4
      Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
      3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
You can give your life to God right now. Repent for your sins, trust Jesus, and God will give you eternal life. Have faith and say this prayer.
"Jesus Lord I know you shed your blood and died for my sins. I know you were buried, and you rose again on the third day. Please forgive me for my sins. I give my life to you Lord. Thank you Jesus for saving me. Amen."

When day comes we ask ourselves,
where can we find light in this never-ending shade?
    The loss we carry,
    a sea we must wade
We've braved the belly of the beast
We've learned that quiet isn't always peace
    And the norms and notions
    of what just is
    Isn’t always just-ice
And yet the dawn is ours
    before we knew it
    Somehow we do it
    Somehow we've weathered and witnessed
    a nation that isn’t broken
    but simply unfinished
We the successors of a country and a time
    Where a skinny Black girl
descended from slaves and raised by a single mother
    can dream of becoming president
only to find herself reciting for one
And yes we are far from polished
    far from pristine
but that doesn’t mean we are
striving to form a union that is perfect
We are striving to forge a union with purpose
To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and
    conditions of man
And so we lift our gazes not to what stands between us
    but what stands before us
We close the divide because we know, to put our future first,
we must first put our differences aside
    We lay down our arms
so we can reach out our arms
    to one another
We seek harm to none and harmony for all
Let the globe, if nothing else, say this is true:
That even as we grieved, we grew
That even as we hurt, we hoped
That even as we tired, we tried
That we’ll forever be tied together, victorious
Not because we will never again know defeat
but because we will never again sow division
    Scripture tells us to envision
that everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree
And no one shall make them afraid
If we’re to live up to our own time
Then victory won’t lie in the blade
But in all the bridges we’ve made
That is the promise to glade
    The hill we climb
    If only we dare
It's because being American is more than a pride we inherit,
it’s the past we step into
    and how we repair it
We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation
    rather than share it
Would destroy our country if it meant delaying democracy
And this effort very nearly succeeded
But while democracy can be periodically delayed
it can never be permanently defeated
    In this truth
    in this faith we trust
For while we have our eyes on the future
history has its eyes on us
This is the era of just redemption
    We feared at its inception
We did not feel prepared to be the heirs
    of such a terrifying hour
but within it we found the power
    to author a new chapter
To offer hope and laughter to ourselves
    So while once we asked,
how could we possibly prevail over catastrophe?
    Now we assert
How could catastrophe possibly prevail over us?
We will not march back to what was
but move to what shall be
A country that is bruised but whole,
    benevolent but bold,
    fierce and free
We will not be turned around
    or interrupted by intimidation
because we know our inaction and inertia
will be the inheritance of the next generation
    Our blunders become their burdens
    But one thing is certain:
If we merge mercy with might,
    and might with right,
    then love becomes our legacy
    and change our children’s birthright
So let us leave behind a country
better than the one we were left with
Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest,
we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one
We will rise from the gold-limbed hills of the west,
we will rise from the windswept northeast
where our forefathers first realized revolution
We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the midwestern states,
we will rise from the sunbaked south
We will rebuild, reconcile and recover
and every known nook of our nation and
    every corner called our country,
our people diverse and beautiful will emerge,
    battered and beautiful
When day comes we step out of the shade,
    aflame and unafraid
The new dawn blooms as we free it
    For there is always light,

@@itsano808 Hi friend, it seems you have also been mislead by the media. Biden was actually in support of integration in schools, and his specific comment was referring to the act of forced busing as a means of integration at schools. He never said schools would “turn into jungles”, he said that the environment created by forced busing would lead to a racial jungle. And, for full transparency, the use of “jungle” is not referring to any people or any races. He believed that tensions between white and black students would lead to fights and arguments, thus a jungle-like atmosphere.
He wasn’t against integration. In fact, he suggested MANY alternatives for integration. He was against forced busing, NOT integration. In fact, right before he made the jungle comment, he advocated for “orderly integration of society”.
I appreciate you feeling concerned about the comment, as it is easy to misinterpret, especially if you haven’t read the entire transcript of the hearing in which it was made. But just remember that these things are extremely easy to research and find online. The media is not hiding anything, they just have no reason to talk about the quote because there’s nothing wrong with it.

@@itsano808 isn’t it strange how not once did I deny that he said that? I too have seen the video, and I was shocked. But I took the time to read about where the quote was from and learn the full context. I’ve read the ENTIRE transcript of that hearing, one where he says he’s in support on integration, and suggest many methods of integration. He was against forced busing, and SAYS that he is against forced busing, because he believes it will turn schools into a negative environment where tensions between black and white students would lead to outbursts of violence (thus, a racial jungle). He was worried that by forcing busing, it would put black students in jeopardy of violence from white students.
Now, don’t get it twisted, I don’t like Biden. But, I’ve done enough research to understand that despite his many flaws, he is the lesser of two evils. MUCH lesser of two evils. I can’t help but wonder if you even bothered to read my full comment, seeing as you accused me of denying it when I fully admitted to him saying that quote. I want to hear you explain what you think he meant by the quote. Because I explained what he meant since he explains it in the transcript, but you must be under some other impression if you are this upset over his phrasing. So what do you think he was trying to say? I’m happy to hear you out.
Nevertheless, I can see that you, Mx. Robby Mae, are clearly too embedded in your bitterness to do the proper due diligence of research. Don’t just watch a 10 second clip over and over again, read the entire transcript. Watch extended footage of the hearing. I explained everything in my comment, and I’d be glad to share with you the sources I used.

      @grahamcracker272chocolate7 3 года назад

@RUclipswill Deletemyaccount I'm just saying, you're not fixing anything by blaming parties. This is a major reason that this country is divided. Because people always play the blame game and don't want to admit their mistakes to get to the bottom of things. Yes it's embarrassing to admit when you're wrong, but it's better to address those faults than pretend that we've never been an antagonist. It's exhausting. And you're right, it will take a while for people to wake up, because it will take a while for people to be humble for once. I've had practice with admitting my wrongs. It's a bit embarrassing, but I feel better after doing so. No one is perfect, but things won't get better until we admit what we're doing wrong, and work to fix those issues.

I consider the first female VP, and the first African American / Asian female VP a huge step forward, so we will see how far this administration can go. Re-listen to her speech, and she says the same thing: "We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside... we shall not look back to what was, but move to what shall be... and if we merge Mercy with Might, and Might with Right, then Love becomes our legacy..."

@@daxpresuto3077 I write poems. I give her props for her brilliance. But I disagree completely with much of what she says. We cannot come together with people to whom the truth is meaningless. We cannot come together by acting as if it is okay to ignorantly destroy Democracy and deny science and refuse to engage in honest conversations. In short I personally cannot sit still and listen to people say stupid things. I am not able to continue to go back decades and demonstrate the misinformation and lies they are still perpetrating. And while I could not think more highly of President Biden or Vice president Harris we don't have another one hundred and sixty years to make the steps we need. The average IQ fell below 100 several years ago. It has been in decline for over a decade. In short the half of the adult population that voted for trumpet are cult members by virtually every definition. I am done trying to resist nature.

@Glenda Stevens So Black Lives Matters is meaningless? Thats what you took from my praise? Guess you can't please all the PEOPLE all the time. I guess I was caught up in HER MESSAGE OF UNITY! I can't wait for the day when we either pick ONE way to honor and acknowledge people of.....CHARACTER! There needs to be an updated mailing list of what is currently the correct term, I am trying to stay current, but again....I guess there is still no consensus. I guess I should have just been colorblind, but wanted to acknowledge the END OF WHITE AMERICA under TRUMP. Sorry, honestly no offense was at all meant.

    • @scottljunggren

Also, in her own words.... she considers herself a "black writer". twitter.com/bartbonikowski/status/1351669720802615296?s=20 So, clearly we all are struggling with these labels, but not the message.

    • @scottljunggren

@Glenda Stevens Again, I guess we can't force our will on others, only hope we are doing our BEST to respectfully honor those that do want to identify themselves and or are proud of their color, heritage, lineage etc. Which was MY intent and clearly how she would like to be identified. I think we can respect others wishes as well as our own, as long as the heart of the intent is recognized, not our own interpretation of it. Again, just said that the heart of my message was twisted to another person's view/agenda and not even a real apology or acknowledgement of my intent or more importantly HER desire to be knows as a PROUD BLACK WRITER. Sorry, but I'm on her side, for her work. I think you really REALLY just lost the whole meaning of her speech, sadly. So again, AWESOME AMAZING JOB TO AN AMAZING WRITER AND SPEAKER!

For an older white man, who is not in general a fan of contemporary poetry, I am really taken in by her poems. I love her delivery, particularly the way she uses her hands! Hand movements are tricky for speakers, and can be distracting or even irritating, but in Miss Gorman's case are integral to the poems themselves. I also hear a subdued and very sophisticated hint of rap influence.

    by Steven F Gooden
My whole soul is in it. Not a piece or a part but with all my heart. My whole soul is in it. Not for fame, fortune, vengeance or guilt, but for passion, charity, vision and will. My whole soul is in it, whether I live or whether I die, win or lose, do or try, my whole soul is in it. For what less could I give, when given so much, all those who came before me, their sacrifice my crutch, their legacy their touch upon not part of me but all of me, for my whole soul is in it.
