    I was fortunate to be there when she recited this. A remarkable woman and poet...it was an excellent poem and a beautiful delivery.

    “History ...need not be lived again... Give birth again to the dream ...Take it into the palms of your hands...mold it .. sculpt it... Do not be wedded forever to fear, yolked eternally to brutishness...The horizon leans forward offering you space to place NEW steps of change ... Have the courage to look up ... into your sister’s eyes and into your brothers face and say , simply , with hope ‘ good morning ‘.
    Maya is a national treasure .
    Know your history
    This was 30 years ago ..
    so now the torch has been handed to all you millennials , gen Xers , and zoomers . It’s time for you all , no matter what different branch of life you come from , to come together .Unite . It’s NOW, or maybe Never.

    I remember it well....my first time voting in a presidential election. It made me cry then and it makes me cry now. Why do we not listen to her words? Why are we still here, begging for people to see reality? Why does skin color, class, religion still matter? RIP Maya.

    This came to mind again this inauguration. Maya Angelou also reminds me of the scripture that speaks of apples of gold in a setting of silver. Perfect for the occasion.

      Have you ever heard of Amanda Gorman???!!!! She spoke at Biden's inauguration the other day... perhaps you missed it? She reminds me very much of a young Dr Maya Angelou. Young, inspirational poets are carrying on her legacy quite well, if you care to look.

      Think it is quite relevant today. Every American is welcome in America. The atrocities of history cannot be changed but we can move forward together if we let go of our hostilities toward each other and stand on the rock together. If we look past our differences and look to the future “good morning”. If you can’t see the relevance of the poem you either didn’t listen or didn’t comprehend.
