Nicely designed tram, appreciating such quite a bit. Smooth, quiet with quick acceleration, much like the Athens, Greece tram. However, hate that the tram design is marred by business ads, detracts loads from the design. Nevertheless, thanks for the video, much appreciated.

Nottingham has UK's most elegantly designed trams. I think the ads are amusing.

I've visited Nottingham several times, not been the last few years, it's a great place with the trams. it's feels like a European City.

+magnetique12 Yep, Adtranz Incentro AT5/6. Incentros are no longer manufactured, ADTRANZ is gone, now is Bombardier, their brainchild is the Bombardier Flexity.

Can you see out of the windows with the ads?

    • @pearlyhumbucker9065

+Wilson Flood Yes, you can. The ads are made from films with many little holes in it. These holes appear to your eyes as black, because the inside of the tram is darker than the outside. Looking from the inside is like looking through a sieve - if you set light on the sieve, you will see the grid of the sieve, if you set the light on an object behind the grid, you wil see this through the holes of the grid.
This effect can be seen at night the other way around, when the light inside the tram shines bright and outside is darkness.

have they sped them up recently?.. im sure they used to go much slower than that

***** I haven't sped up the video, but some do appear faster than I remember. I agree with your comments on advertising revenue, if it helps keep the fares down it all helps. I had thought about doing some lineside filming between Wilkinson Street and David Lane to get some high speed running from the footpath but didn't do it in the end. Thanks for watching!

video47 I just discovered that they have sped them up,. its something to do with the two new lines coming into operation,. the drivers have been given less time between stops as they are trying to work out how to incorporate the traffic from the two new lines as all trams will run through routs via the city centre

Money wasted for stuff that clogs up roads. The only place for trams is in museums.

+John Benton I'd disagree, considering every passenger on a tram is one less in a car, furthermore, tram wheels encounter less rolling resistance than tyres - ie, cleaner and more energy efficient. Sure the disadvantage is you have to lay rail and sometimes overhead cables, but the same is true of a train.

If only it were true. I live close by the main road from Wolverhampton to Birmingham. The introduction of the tram has reduce train and bus use but car use remains unaltered. Then we come to cost. Every tram costs in excess of £1.2million. Track costs £1million/mile (including overhead.) Disruption to all other road-bound traffic is immense in the short term and significant in the long term. Trams never recover their capital costs, so never even approach their running costs. Then we come to the environment. Trams are an environmental disaster; they take up too much space, and when one breaks down the entire route is affected/stopped. Need I go on? Trams are merely toys for big boys who like to spend other people's money.

Selfish drivers are the problem, not trams.

If you want to waste a fortune, buy a tram network. Tram networks are money-pits. It's been proved time and time again. Proper public transport can be a legal way to make loadsa money!
