  • EndlessOS is targeted toward education in countries lacking computer technologies. They have a lot of compelling features to their system, but there are also a lot of huge concerns. Here we will look at the installation, setup, and use.

    Honesty it is not a bad Linux distro. But it takes more hard drive space than you think and it seems that they are trying to add more to the updates. I wonder why?

      How many Ram memory do you have? Try Lubuntu or any Linux distribution with XFCE desktop environment, such as MX LInux, Xubuntu, Linux Mint XFCE, Linux Lite, Peppermint OS

    • @someonesomewhere9321
      @someonesomewhere9321 4 года назад +2

      Depends mostly on the amount of RAM you have.
      * For 1GB or less, I'd go for for AntiX or Bodhi Linux.
      * From 1 - 2 GB, I'd use Sparky LXQT, Linux Lite or Lubuntu. Maybe even Peppermint OS if you're into web apps.
      * From 2 - 4 GB, go with MX Linux or Manjaro XFCE.
      Honestly, with 4GB you can use pretty much anything if your processor is up to speed, but the web is so bloated nowadays that you'd be quickly bottlenecked while browsing on a more resource heavy Desktop Environment like Gnome or KDE.

    • @OldieBugger
      @OldieBugger 4 года назад +2

      Well, you can write down most anything (as long as it is legal and not outright crazy) and call it a contract. If someone 'signs' that contract, it binds him legally.

    • @CommodoreFan64
      @CommodoreFan64 4 года назад +1

      @@OldieBugger That is indeed true there, and most people will never take time to read a EULA before they hit the agree button because they are usually way too long, and written in legal speak they can't understand, or want to take the time to understand.

    Thank you for this review. It was a real eye opener for me as I installed this thing a couple of months back and didn't bother to read the agreement which, now that you have exposed it for what it is, I find it very disturbing. I want to run, not walk, away from Endless OS but it seems I am thwarted in trying to replace it with POP OS. I downloaded the ISO for POP OS but then when I tried to use Rufus to burn it to a USB drive I got a message saying "Rufus is not acceptable on Endless OS". I then read of similar problems with other Endless OS users online and heard that an app called "Disk" in the Endless App Center would do the trick. But every time I try to use Disk it crashes. It seems the endless powers at be have made an otherswise simple proceedure very complicated. . Before I resort to DBan burn of the HD and sending cleansing my thinkpad of this menacing os and then purchasing a preinstalled Linux Mint USB Drive or other distro would you have any suggestions to avoid that?

    • @David-iq1kd
      @David-iq1kd 3 года назад

      If you are able to switch Paul, I've really been liking Pop OS on my laptop. Has some nifty multitasking features I really like - automatic window tiling and tabbed programs (like in a browser, but you can group some applications with tabs)

      use command "dd" in terminal to burn an ISO:

      i think that should work

    • @theodiscusgaming3909
      @theodiscusgaming3909 2 года назад +2

      @@correorodi Be VERY careful with this! If /dev/sdb isn't a USB drive but rather a hard drive in the system, then this will overwrite the hard drive. The dd command gives no warnings, double check that you're writing to the right drive before using the command.

    Linuxreviews.org found some typical corporate EULA.
    linuxreviews.org/Endless_OS#The_License
    2017:
    "4.1 Default. Certain information is reported to Endless periodically by the Service. This information includes the version of the OS which was installed and is currently being used, the device that is being used to run the OS and its approximate location, how the OS was installed, and how long the OS has been installed on that device."
    2017:
    "Termination of Use; Discontinuation and Modification of the Service. If you violate any provision of these Terms, your permission to use the Service will terminate automatically. Additionally, Endless, in its sole discretion may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice. We also reserve the right to modify or discontinue the Service at any time (including, without limitation, by limiting or discontinuing certain features of the Service) without notice to you."

    This is more guys concerned with a fairly Generic User agreement, And the political affiliation of a slightly leaning left cnn and a Slightly leaning right BBC, rather than the actual operating system itself. Bro just a little tip. user agreements are usually written by a lawyer, who has no technical knowledge of the thing he is writing, And who are just a one time contractor, it's also not uncommon for them to just be purchased off the Internet put in some very basic info and bam there's your user agreement. Don't get freaked out over user agreements. they very rarely actually hold water in court.😥😥😥

    good review.
    The talk about "politics" and "balance" is laughable.
    BBC, CNN and FORBES aren't leaning any political direction except CORPORATE, which is to say mainstream, popular, daily news information that always comes with some implicit bias, as does everything.
    What do you want, Drudge and American Conservative blogs as options on an education centered distro? Get real.

    I'm Brazilian, so I don't follow BBC nor CNN much. I don't know their political views, but saying that people have to know both sides of a story is wrong. A story has only one side when it's concerned to the news which is THE TRUTH! If both do this, then Endless OS is on a good path. If not, I just have to say sorry. A story never has two sides.

It looks to me that if this is for Countries without technologies they are betting on any educational intuition not reading the terms of use carefully and or not understanding it. And the fact that its will auto install updates and the bios changes. They can stuck this where the sun does not shine.
