Another great song from the legendary Elvis Presley, what a voice he had and he was just a mesmerising performer. All these years later and we are still enjoying his music, that is quite a legacy! 😊😊
1968 was one of the most turbulent years domestically in decades. We lost MLK, RFK & thousands of young men to the Vietnam War. Protests abounded across the nation. According to Steven Binder, Elvis was doing rehearsals when the news came on TV that Robert F. Kennedy had been assassinated, everyone stopped what they were doing shocked by the news. Elvis & several others on set talked about Bobby's death as well as Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death, the War in Vietnam & the protests and riots in the streets. Elvis 'really laid his heart open' according to Binder & afterward Binder asked Elvis if he'd be okay with some of the words he had said be written into a song for the last performance of the Comeback Special. Elvis agreed to it so writers were contacted to write a song that reflected Elvis's thoughts on the situation. The writers came up with "If I Can Dream." It was presented to Elvis & after rehearsing it a few times Elvis said he thought he could do the song justice. Colonel Parker & others including NBC & additional PTB did not want Elvis to perform the song as they felt it was 'too controversial.' Elvis stood his ground & thus "If I Can Dream" became the closing number of the show rather than a Christmas Song which is what the others wanted him to do. Today is the 47th Anniversary of Elvis's tragic & untimely death at his home, Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. Rest In Peace to a generous, humble man who blazed Rock & Roll into the stratosphere for millions of people to enjoy both at the time and in the intervening years since.
…Phenomenal!! … Elvis has everything a singer needs: GOOD LOOKS, GOOD MANNERS, HUMOR, SEXY, a stunning VOICE... and above all an incredible CHARISMA!! ... He is still unsurpassed today and a singer for eternity!! ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
Hi! It's really amazing that even 47 years after he left the building Elvis is still extremely current and popular even among the younger generation! So. I suggest you reacting on Elvis's "Power of my love". The sexiest song you 've ever heard. Moreover, as a fan of MJ you should know that he copied Elvis throughout his career. His famous moonwalk wasn't his at all. It was Elvis he emulated. MJ went even so far as to marry Elvis's daughter and much more... I am not that old myself, but I can say that Elvis was, maybe still is the epitome of talent, looks, style and charisma, which you can not find in any artist all in one.
Such an incredibly moving song and I don't know anyone who could do it better than Elvis. You can feel the pain in his heart while hoping for a kinder world. Thanks so much Anthony for posting another great tune by this lovely artist both inside and out🧡Your comments are spot on.
I’m a massive Elvis fan and this is one of his greats. His voice never failed him. He was a genius at his craft right until the end. He was a gift from God and for us, he gave his all. God love him 💙
Back then, people like Elvis, just got up and sang. They didn't have the way of recording like today. A lot of the singers today wouldn't have made it back then. He was a passionate singer and that is what made him so famous. You felt like he was singing to you! To this 73 year old fan, I still feel that way. I will always love Elvis.
I`m not sure that I agree with you. Nowadays, many singers are very talented and extremely well-trained. There are far more of them than decades ago. The thing is that decades ago the music industry looked different from now. Back then, very few singers were musically educated and most got famous based on their original style. The problem isn`t the skills of today`s artists, it`s the originality. Most are trained in a very similar fashion, which follows the rules of the music academy, making it difficult for them to be different and original. In addition, nowadays, children grow up with TV, the Internet, CDs, etc., and they are constantly bombarded with famous artists and tend to imitate singers they watch and love. On the other hand, Elvis`s generation grew up listening to the music on the radio. Very few had a record player. It wasn`t as easy to study singers as it is today. But that created diversity and originality. In short, talented people have always lived and will always live on this planet. Just because the music industry is obsessed with autotuning doesn`t mean that today`s artists really need autotuning.
I’ve been a big fan of Elvis for almost sixty years now, & I can still get drawn into his performances, because of his passion when he sings. I think you have picked up on this very well. I do hope you will continue with your Elvis Reactions. Thank you.
My first Elvis record was a double LP about 30 songs. I thought there cant be more amazing songs. That's it... 😊 The same happened after every new record i got. There are some songs that are not my style, but his voice make me put my hat off every time. Thank you for your great reaction!
47 years since we lost the incredible person that was Elvis In that time period we were involved in Vietnam, everyone was still recovering from JFK being assassinated, the Civil Rights mivement waa in full swing and then in the space of a few months both MLK and RFK were assassinated. Elvis was supposed to do a Christmas song as the final number but the producer, Elvis and a bunch of people had been discussing everything going on one night. The next day Binder then went to the show's Musical Director Billy Goldenberg and songwriter Earl Brown and told them about the discussion and things Elvis had said. He wanted a powerful, meaningful song that would close out the TV special. After Elvis heard it he decided to do the song despite Col. Parker's arguments for a Christmas song.
Thanks for another great reaction! I am glad that younger generations check out Elvis and other older masters. If only older generations would be willing to do the same with modern music and cinema. But the older we get the less energy we have for new things. Knowing more than just the artists, music, movies, and actors of your own generation enriches your life because it triggers your feelings and your brain cells, and even provides you with new knowledge. People can be extremely flippant and shallow when it comes to creating opinions, judging others, or writing comments. If they took the time to think things over, under, and through, it would become clear to them that younger generations can't possibly know all hits from the past. Just like it is impossible for the older generations to know all the famous singers, bands, and hits the younger generations listen to. I am convinced that people who write those silly comments have no clue about the music and artists that were famous 30 or more years before their birth. It`s ridiculous how uncomprehending and shallow-minded some people are. What is even more ridiculous is the fact that such comments still trigger me after so many years. So much so that I`m prepared to write a far-too-long comment in the comment section on YT. I`ll have to have a serious word with myself...
YES!! One of my first favorite Elvis songs. Although I’m very old, 62, ha ha, I didn’t discover how much I would love Elvis by watching videos about him and I saw this song…American trilogy… and actually went out and bought the 45 record. Yes, I’m showing my age, ha ha! But it was one of my favorites listening to the record, and then seeing the video topped it off. Of course, he couldn’t know he was going to die in just a few years, but some of the lyrics make it seem like he knew. It’s still great performance and beautiful song. Please do it. The live concert from Hawaii. I believe it’s the best one. Thank you. New subscriber because of Elvis. Best of luck to you and your channel. 😃
This also encompassed the assassination of Robert Kennedy, & not a literal tribute to any one person or persons but a wish for peace & harmony. It was after Elvis & Binder spent hrs. talking about the goings on in the world, that Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to create a song to end the show based on what Elvis expressed & which is reminiscent of King's speech for a better world.
My favorite of his performances. He sang his soul out in this plea for equality and peace. The network wanted him to end his special with a Christmas song, but Elvis fought for this one instead. It was a very brave stand by him in the middle of the racial unrest at that time.
This song is not specifically for MLK. 1968 was a very tumultuous time. Vietnam war, protests in the street to oppose it. The body count was announced regularly on the news. The war was in your living room. MLK was assassinated in April. Robert F Kennedy in June. The taping of this show would have been in July. Those events were very much in everyone’s hearts. So, the song encompasses many events.
Sorry, but you are so wrong, it connected the MLK speech "I have a dream" even the song title say "if I can dream" how come you don't see the connection?
@@שלומיכהן-מ8ה You are right! I did a Research paper on his life story and there is no question at all! ELVIS himself has talked about MLK and that "he had so much left to accomplish" (concerning equality for all.)
This is a song for now in 2024, we need what this symbolizes for sure. It's sad but I think thought provoking too. Elvis poured his soul into that performance ❤❤❤
He was so emotive and passionate when he sings. Beautiful voice but it’s how he grabs your soul. It was just Elvis week in which they have a candlelight vigil 47 yrs after his death & then a celebration of his life the entire week at Graceland. To die so young, & to still be front page news 47 yrs after his death is so iconic. To be known around the world by your first name and to still sell billions of records a year is quite remarkable. It seems now days it doesn’t matter when a legend was alive because we have streaming, social media, U Tube etc that gives us the advantage to watch what ever we want. He sang around 800 songs, recorded, live or requested in his concerts. Thank you for this. The Blockbuster movie ELVIS in 2022 had him doing this and others which brought him center stage again. ❤❤
GREAT COMMENT. BUT JUST WASN'T MANAGED FAIRLY IN HIS FINANCIALLY WORK.. THE GREAT BASKETBALL PLAYER SHAQUEL O'NEIL BOUGHT HIS MERCHANDISE ECT. FROM HIS BEGINNING TO 1973.. Imagine he sings that beautifully without auto tune! Elvis only performed this song on the Comeback Special. He hit the floor in tears at the end. The red tie/scarf was in honor of the men and women who served/ died in Vietnam. Elvis performed from his heart and soul!
"If I Can Dream" is a song made famous by Elvis Presley, written by Walter Earl Brown of The Skylarks for the singer and notable for its similarities with Martin Luther King Jr.'s 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech. It was recorded by Presley in June 1968, just two months after King's assassination, and also a short time after Robert Kennedy's assassination. The recording was first released to the public as the finale of Presley's '68 Comeback Special. the producers and Elvis con artist manager form the South, "Colonel"Tom Parker, tried to get Elvis NOT to do it. They were afraid of backlash from the racist white policies and such. Elvis told them all to go jump in the lake.
I wasn’t aware of this song, either, until the 2022 Elvis movie. It wasn’t a song on the radio, and to be honest, I don’t think he recorded it as a single. I read somewhere where he never sang it other than this special, but I’d have to dig deeper to know.
Yes it was a one off for this special. An album was released with all the songs in the special. It went unaired on television for 20 years after it originally aired in 1968.
Good for you! You know that he really had to be a special man to be able to keep getting millions of new fans from different generations 47 years after his death. He was bigger that you could ever imagine when he was alive. People could not get enough of him.
@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Elvis could sing every genre, but what he loved most was gospel, it's what he and his friends, band members, whoever was there would sing most every night into the morning. No one can touch your heart and the very center of your soul, like Elvis can, because he pours his heart and soul into every word and note. He won only 3 Grammy in his lifetime and all were for gospel, 2 were for the same song, 1st for the album in 1965, then again in the 70s for a live performance of 'How Great Thou Art' that's the one you want to hear and I guarantee you'll not only hear it, you will FEEL it!❤❤❤❤
As per Steve Binder, Elvis, Binder & a group of others were together in the studio when they heard noise coming from the TV in the next room; it was the TV news broadcast that Robert Kennedy had just been assassinated. Binder, Elvis, et al sat up until about 4 a.m. talking about the turmoil in the world at that time w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings about our world in turmoil at that time. Elvis was disturbed about many things that were going on in the world; let's not forget Vietnam -- & there had been a couple of other assassinations a few yrs. prior to King & Kennedy. Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions & what Elvis had to say, & it was composed post haste. While many people think it was a "dedication," it was not meant to be a literal dedication to any one person or persons but is notable for its similarities King’s wish for a world of peace and harmony due to what was going on in the world. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.
On average, if you were born in the late 90s, your grandparents or parents should be familiar with the music of Elvis and had you listen to his songs. I was born in 1964 and both my parents were Elvis fans. I could be your father.
The red scarf he wore around his neck, was a tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam war, which was going on at that time! ❤ love your reaction!
This was also due to the assassination of Robert Kennedy, & not a literal tribute to any one person or persons but a wish for peace & harmony. It was after Elvis & Binder spent hrs. talking about the goings on in the world, that Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to create a song to end the show based on what Elvis expressed & which is reminiscent of King's speech for a better world.
Elvis’ only child, Lisa Marie was married to Michael Jackson for a short while. Sadly she passed away on Jan 12, 2023. Just 2 days after attending the Golden Globe Awards ceremony to support everyone involved in the making of “Elvis” movie.
I'm wondering if this is a wild coincidence that you've decided to delve deep into Elvis as it is the Anniversary Week of his passing.. R.I.P. AUGUST 16 1977❤
Elvis is thr King. Sure you can be up to date with the best authentic music. Elvis can sing any genre he started it all. Won't listen to you again because you are very patronising
Also he respected RFK and both their deaths influenced the decision to sing this . I’m a hard roc person but Elvis along with John Farnham have the best male vocals of all time
Walter Earl Brown wrote this song. I don't know anything about him and I'm not familiar with anything else he wrote but I guess he hit the jackpot with this one song. FYI, he died about 10 years ago.
You mentioned the song “Feeling Good.” If not already, you should definitely react to Angelina Jordan’s version of it at age TEN, live on an indoor stage on a Norwegian TV2 show. She’s mind blowing and it is, without question, THE BEST rendition of “Feeling Good” I have EVER heard in my 69 years, including Nina Simone’s! Thank you!
Music 🎵 in the 60's was one way to get message of the sorts, JFK his brother Robert then Martin Luther! Daaaa, "someone was responsible"!!!! It wasn't who they convicted.
“I wasn’t born then” doesn’t work when it comes to knowing artists which, for centuries have been considered common knowledge. Problem is that you haven’t bothered to learn about music. I know popular music and artists going all the back to pop and jazz in the early 1900’s and everything since. Classical going back to the late 1400s. I certainly wasn’t born then.
It does work, it is a valid argument. There are thousands of artists, you can't expect everyone to know all the classics, especially when born decades after their prime.
10:40 Some names last forever. I'll bet you know Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. It's true that most names fall off the radar screen as time goes by. No doubt about that. 11-) a0_0i p
Well, since you love MJ so much; you do know that he married Elvis's daughter. You think growing up that you would want to listen to the person you want to be like Father-in-law's music especially if it was Elvis. Just Saying
A lot of the time you pick up on the past through old movies and TV shows. Or through new movies that harken back to the earlier times. For example, the Guardians of The Galaxy movies were chock-full of 1970s hits. If you are a reader, then you will get a lot of the past. People should learn about the past. It helps you learn who you are and why things are the way they are today. Most of what happened happened in the distant past. The present is a tiny slither of the picture.11-) j_be p
Jackson at best was a dancer ....... He was not a great singer ...... To High a pitch ........ Elvis had that Manly voice ...... And you should not talk about Elvis and Jackson in the same video ..... As Elvis was the Greatest at both ..... And Elvis blows Jackson to Smithereens ...... As he does all others too ..... Elvis was demanded by the public ...... Jackson was force fed to the public ....... And the reason he was is because the ones that control the music world makes money from stars they can produce live ..... And force on to the sleeping public ..... That is unaware they are being brain washed ..... They only make money from live performances not video's ..... UNDERSTAND ...... GOOD ..... No Brag ..... Just Fact .....
Ah Elvis the great white hope for white America. After Elvis sang this song it is alleged he went back stage and cried, maybe he did. What we do know is when Elvis emerged, Elvis himself said, that he would never act in another movie or sing another song he did not believe in. So Elvis being the southern gentleman that he was, kept his word and never sang this song again. So the joke is on you because he did NOT! believe in it.
At the age of 11 I fell in love with this man and his music, I’m now 75 and I still feel the same way.
Another great song from the legendary Elvis Presley, what a voice he had and he was just a mesmerising performer. All these years later and we are still enjoying his music, that is quite a legacy! 😊😊

Elvis left his heart and soul on stage with that song. And yes sadly it's still very relevant today❤❤❤

Imagine he sings that beautifully without auto tune!
Elvis only performed this song on the Comeback Special. He hit the floor in tears at the end.
The red tie/scarf was in honor of the men and women who served/ died in Vietnam.
Elvis performed from his heart and soul!
who sang songs back then with auto tune?
I love Mj too..but Elvis is Elvis..he had it all⚡️ He never toured outside America., only Canada and still is the KING 💪🏼
Listen to Elvis live in concert song is just pretend. Also watch his live rehersals
They are amazing
Elvis in The Ghetto 😊😊❤🇸🇪🎤
Beautiful meaningful song ❤
This men is the best ever ever ❤❤
I wasn’t aware of this song, either, until the 2022 Elvis movie. It wasn’t a song on the radio, and to be honest, I don’t think he recorded it as a single. I read somewhere where he never sang it other than this special, but I’d have to dig deeper to know.
Yes it was a one off for this special. An album was released with all the songs in the special. It went unaired on television for 20 years after it originally aired in 1968.
❤❤❤ Elvis!!! Thank you!
Beautiful
I become a fan after I watched Elvis movie 2022, after that I start to do my research , reading books, watching interviews etc ( I am a girl at 32 😊)
Good for you! You know that he really had to be a special man to be able to keep getting millions of new fans from different generations 47 years after his death. He was bigger that you could ever imagine when he was alive. People could not get enough of him.
In my opinion, this is the greatest live performance of all time.
Elvis, such a beautiful masculine tone, thank you for reacting! ❤
He also has three Grammys for his gospel music. How Great Thou Art (Live) from Aloha from Hawaii is magnificent.
His gospel music?
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425yup
@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Elvis could sing every genre, but what he loved most was gospel, it's what he and his friends, band members, whoever was there would sing most every night into the morning. No one can touch your heart and the very center of your soul, like Elvis can, because he pours his heart and soul into every word and note. He won only 3 Grammy in his lifetime and all were for gospel, 2 were for the same song, 1st for the album in 1965, then again in the 70s for a live performance of 'How Great Thou Art' that's the one you want to hear and I guarantee you'll not only hear it, you will FEEL it!❤❤❤❤
@@martyarnold4159 Let me make you life easier. My comment was "his music" Do you know what "his music" means?
Elvis recorded nearly 800 songs Many of which are Gospel
As a kid that spent time with Sissy Houston. THIS Song is about MLK and the war. ✌️❤️
❤🥺👏👏👏👏⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Always do his live performances, they really showcase him as he was!!!!!!❤
Thank u Jamie!!
He felt every word, sung from his soul, a phenomenal performance from the legend, the King himself. There is no one like him and there never will be
On average, if you were born in the late 90s, your grandparents or parents should be familiar with the music of Elvis and had you listen to his songs.
I was born in 1964 and both my parents were Elvis fans. I could be your father.
❤👑👑👑👑👑❤️
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This was also dedicated to RFK too who had just been assassinated also and they were good friends!
Elvis is ALWAYS!
The red scarf he wore around his neck, was a tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam war, which was going on at that time! ❤ love your reaction!
He wrote this song for MLK and Bobby Kennedy when they both got kill he was friends with both of them😊
Always brings a tear to my eye
He cried as he left the stage and stayed I his dressing room for 3 hrs. afterward.
This song here is a tribute to martin luther king junior
Posted 9/5 ? Today is 8/17!?!
He must have shelved it for almost a year.
NO auto-tune here like the BS of today. The King at his best.
I'm wondering if this is a wild coincidence that you've decided to delve deep into Elvis as it is the Anniversary Week of his passing.. R.I.P. AUGUST 16 1977❤
@aerodoors11, Did you mean Aug. 16. 1977
@@epfanforever yes
Elvis is thr King. Sure you can be up to date with the best authentic music. Elvis can sing any genre he started it all. Won't listen to you again because you are very patronising
My God play the song!
His religious songs are the best ballads ever.
THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN FOR ELVIS.
Watch Elvis and the Back Community.
There is only one king.
Also he respected RFK and both their deaths influenced the decision to sing this . I’m a hard roc person but Elvis along with John Farnham have the best male vocals of all time
After this performance, Elvis went to his dressing room, curled up on a sofa, and cried all night.
THAT IS B.S. HE DID NOT ....... STOP READING GARBAGE THEN PASS IT ON ..... WAKE-UP ......
Thank you!
Holds up today? Is that a joke? NOBODY today can hold a candle to Elvis. Not even slightly
Start reading and learning about Elvis.
That is the year i went into the army.
10:40 Some names last forever. I'll bet you know Bach, Beethoven and Mozart. It's true that most names fall off the radar screen as time goes by. No doubt about that. 11-)

Are you kidding me??? This was 68
The background Elvis is a copy of his album cover.
1968 - he was 33.
Remember Michael Jackson married Elvis's daughter Lisa Marie. So, Elvis could have been Michael's father-in-law if he didn't pass.
The present is a tiny slither of the picture.11-)

Oh man,,, it’s MARTIN LUTHER KING, Jr… not referenced to Nina at all.
I've been listening to Elvis since I was a kid in the mid 80's
