I love your videos. The innocence and honesty are refreshing.
Agreed wholeheartedly. He's so humble he still considers himself an amateur. Can't get more modest than that.
In addition, Uri is a god level tier old-school craftsman with a stellar sense of humor!
What a grand and intoxicating innocence!
- Dagoth Uri
Hello my good friends! I'm really happy to see that you enjoy this video. I just want to mention that I've ended up sharpening the face of the Chisel closer to 45 degrees and the heel at around 17 degrees. That produced the best results for me.
If I remember rightly I ordered them from Hong Kong (on ebay). Yes, they did take a while to get here. I can't say with certainty that they are indeed hss , since I don't have the expertise to confirm, but they definitely have the feel and the hardness of a hss, especially when I tried, in previous attempts, to heat treat them I realize that its not your ordinary High carbon steel. if you can get your hands on some O1 tool steel that would work just as well.

You search silversteel (Silberstahl), Material No. 1.2210 Short name: 115 CrV 3 a CromVanadium steel, this is right for engraving tools
Thanks.
Good job
You're absolutely inspiring man, thanks for the advice
A bello
The best tuto about metal carving/engraving making tool there is on utube...simply informative, gets it straight to ur head, easy, fast homemade diy...great job.. keep it up
This is one of my favorite videos by you simply because your other videos really piqued my interest and I want to try engraving myself. So I'm very thankful for every explanation regarding the basics!(:
This channel is growing rapidly. Good : it's a gem.
"Just get it to cherry red... which is... the color of cherries..." :D
Well, he's not wrong! :)
noctrnalAndroid LOL😂
me too rolling on the floor
Actually, the cherries should be ripe.
Which are anything from black-red, to pink-red! And, you can have the steel TOO hot as well. I think that using a magnet is a much better method.
1:10 Haha bang, smash, pots and pans fall, camera shakes ! “Oops, sorry” haha I love these videos!
A new Uri video... Today is a good day!
If you enjoyed it, that is a good day for me too!
I did! Those scrolls are just beautiful. It's very interesting to see the process. Look forward to more videos!
Thank you Yuri, such deep humility from such an extraordinarily gifted craftsman, such a nice thing to see and hear. Thank you for sharing your seriously beautiful work with us all yet again, if I end being even half as good a craftsman as you are Yuri I would be pleased and would be in the top level of workers, you, you are at the top, thank you
Too much fun watching these. The guy is an original. Don't ever change, Uri!
It's a great pleasure to sit and watch you in your element, enjoying that what you're doing in any of your programs, at whenever you release them, are almost always feel free, are educational, often make,'s me laugh, Uri you are telented humourous and appear to be a good person all the good for the future from the Heart ❤️
I will try tomorrow!!! Thankyou so much!!! Clear and simply your video...
This is a complete HOW TO video from making your tools to the final outcome....very nice thank you
Really enjoyed your tutorial - Thank you Uri!
Nothing you make is ever plain! Making gravers... with beautiful, fancy handles! I love your videos! Amateur? I think not!!! Your work is fantastic!
Uri - I love your videos and always look forward to seeing you working in your shop!
I am new to engraving and have been following your instructions and having fun with my first try at it.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Big Thumbs Up!
My Dad discovered you the other day online and is delighted with you and your work! He also is a Craftsman and we are of Germanic descent as well. God bless mein Freund!
Your gesture is enhancing over time, your engraving skills have made a step forward.
Thank you for the insperation and advice Herr Uri. I ordered the hhs online and made my first graver this weekend, wish me luck! Thanks again for sharing.
You are no amateur Uri, you are better than most professionals. Good work.
Very good tutorial; thank you. In the past I have made some crude gravers, and my attempts at engraving always resulted in the metal looking like beavers have chewed it. You have given me some good ideas, and inspiration to go back and try again.
You sir are a true craftsman. Call yourself an amateur? You’re much too modest. As I RUclipsr myself I understand the amount of effort involved in running a channel, so I want to thank you for the humour, the educational content and above all entertaining video. Keep it up : )
Great video....I enjoyed watching and learning from your experience...
This video is the answer to my prayers man. I've been trying to find instructions on how to get started in engraving and this just made my day.
Beautiful workmanship. Both the tools and the engraving.
You are so skilled my friend, I am really tempted to try this, fantastic video
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing.
Watching your videos has real gotten me back into making stuff. Decided to make myself a whittling toolbox and included various bits of brass so when I build some engraving tools I can have a go. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great, Uri. Really instructional and very encouraging. Thank you.
"Ah... I have stabbed myself" This is worthy of Chief Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies!
Exactly. And the accent was top notch as well.
Another great video Uri, always a pleasure to watch a master at work 😀👍
so much fun to be educated in making things pretty. great video.
Uri, if your an amateur then they haven’t created a name (handle) for me. Non-existent comes to mind. Thank you for your videos I don’t watch them to learn new skills, I watch them because of your humor, expertise, many abilities, exciting builds, beautiful tools/inventions and all around great personality. This I can do, copying you is out of the question for me, but enjoying your channel never ceases to amaze and humor me. Thank you Sir.
Love the way you present your videos.
Very entertaining
You are a very skilled man with a chisel and have such a creative mind. I also love your sense of humor and aspire to be a person like you someday.
Very nice tutorial. Patience and a steady hand. Enjoy your videos very much.
Thank you! I’ve just discovered your videos and they are so inspiring. I am a self taught jeweller and i’m wanting to venture into engraving. This video is very helpful!
Artisan, Craftsman, Virtuoso, Savant.
I had to rewatch this. My weekend didn't seem complete until I've watched Uri! Beautiful work as always.
Greetings from Missouri!Thank you for making your videos. Your style of working, and teaching really works well for me, and it’s amazing what you are able to create.
Thank you so much man! I was ready to give up before i started and then this video came! You are AWESOME!
same that below, i really enjoyed your demonstration, thanks for your time, so nice to discover your design, engraving process. It illuminates my morning :-)
What I learned is, my printer ink is acetone proof. Hands down man, your videos may not be tutorials, but they teach you more than any other or real tutorial videos on YT!!
I am gold & silversmith, engraving is one of my passion. Thanks For your technic.
Good job, nice worked. Really looking good !
Great Channel! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
"I am a novice when it comes to engraving"
Makes a gorgeous engraving set and goes on to make a perfect engraving
Beautiful mate!!!
Great stuff Uri, sometimes these things can be made to seem more complicated than they are. Cool to see just how little you really need to get started.
"That's all there is to it." lol
Dude... you're a seriously impressive artist. You make it look so effortless!
Uri You are amazing. I am going to try making a engraver and probably fail but i will keep trying. Thank you for the lesson.
Manishma Uri! I love your work, I’ve seen all your videos, very impressive. You’ve actually inspired me to try engraving for the first time, thank you for that.
Also, when you speak of getting the scrollwork “symmetrical” and “curvier”, the concept (I believe) you’re speaking of is known as “fairing a curve”. A proper, aesthetically pleasing curve is said to be a “fair curve”. The easiest way I know to fair a curve is to look at your work from eye level. At that vantage point it is much easier to see where the curve is going “off”.
Thanks again and keep up the great work, friend.
Thank you. It was really nice to see how you set out your scrollwork.
You're a legend, always learn something from your videos.
Great video, this is exactly what I was looking for, as a DIY guy looking to get into engraving! Also you have the perfect amount of detail without giving too much info. Again, great video, this has earned my subscription!
I dont know what im watching or how I got here, but you seem good at it.
You deserve a like.
Again this was another great informative video and beautiful workmanship
Yet another skill i will struggle to find time to master_ I need to stop watching RUclips because I keep getting inspired to try new things-only 24 hours in a day...
Thanks Uri-these problems are to be savoured!
I don't know how I've missed your video's for so long, but I think you under state your abilities. An amateur wouldn't understand the cutting finish to the angle of the face of the tool, as you do. By watching you, and I certainly don't understand it yet, I am closer. I have tried this before with great frustration for not understanding said relationship and I quit. now I think I may try again.
Good work Bud! You teach well and learn fast. Trial and error on the proper angle for the engraver but you didn't give up and succeeded in making your own tools. I salute you from Canada.
Wow, you always do a really good job with your scroll designs.
You should do a video about your technical background- you seem to know a lot of crafts.
Very inspiring! Thank you!
Excellent Video. Thank you!!!!!!
Fantastic video! I've always been a bit apprehensive about making my own tools, but I think I'll give it a try now!
Your work is so inspiring. I love your style and your honesty. Keep up the great work. I really enjoy watching.
Trust me both of my parents were artist my grandparents were artist and you are no amateur sir you are a highly qualified to do the job and most steady at your job keep up the good work were all back in thank you
Very enjoyable Uri, I'd like to see how you tweek your tools to get them up to par. I believe that Fine Tuning video would be very helpful to lots of craftsmen. Great videos keep up the good work!
I love your weird machines and builds! Nice to see your channel growing as well!
I think I'll make one or two. I've always wanted to try engraving. Thanks for the video.
Great video. Learned a lot. Thank you very much.
Hello my friends, have you ever tried a pneumatic router? Very easy to use! The vibrating sound is simply wonderful for carving! feel like an artist
I imagine if you were to make a custom honing guide it would work fabulously well and look beautiful too.
IMHO you do impressive work both in your graver making & your engravings. I too am an amateur, been engraving now off & on for 12 years. I should probably just get serious about it but engraving always was just a hobby, something to have fun with. I don't think we ever stop refining our craft & certainly there's always more to learn, you do beautiful work Uri. Cheers my friend from Calgary, Alberta 🇨🇦
You are an incredible artist
I really admire your work
Thank you!!
You make it look so simple. Thank you
Very nice video, I watched the hammer engraving video first. I've always wanted to try this...as a graphic designer I appreciate design and form with these scrolls. Reminds me of gun engraving and leather engraving...very nice work..thanks for sharing
Fantastic work and a great video to learn from. I'm going to make a few gravers today for myself!
Thanks 🙏informative and well presented. Nice workmanship sir
Yet again another fantastic tutorial Uri, keep up the great work
Thank you so much for a starter video. I actually made 2 chisels after I saw your video where you made some for your friend. But I haven't tried them, yet. But I tried and watched some scrollwork. These scrolls are still so hard for me. But I managed to imitate some scrollwork of Israhel van Meckenmen. Now, my next step is buying some acetone to transfer the pictures.
This is, what you made me doing. :)
Español porfa
this is fantastic, making tools and using them. thanks for teaching us
All those interested in this skill development should watch and study from this video which is clearly illustrated the techniques and methodologies used.
Liquids and chemicals should be explained, specially for beginners.
Overall, very good.
Love your work and the accent think it suits your work as jeweller
I'm a new subscriber and this channel is the best! I learn something every video. I now want to learn engraving.
I always thought an engraver is something you have to buy because its some complicated geometry and special steel that had to be done by a professional....man you make things look so simple! Amazing
Great vid, very useful information.. thanks man.
EXCELLENT VIDEO - I'm just starting and you have given me a lot of direction.
I enjoyed it very much and learned a lot
That’s really good. I can use that! Thanks
Your videos are sooooo useful!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Thank you. Very informative and e entertaining too. You are certainly an artist.
Hello my friends, have you ever tried a pneumatic router? Very easy to use! The vibrating sound is simply wonderful for carving! feel like an artist
Thank you for your talents & for sharing!
Thank you very much,
Great artist
WOW, I'm inspired to make an engraver and give it a go. Thanks for the upload.
You are so very entertaining .... Varied content, making lots of different things too.
Superb , enjoyable viewing.
Such a great and humble teacher. Your teaching style assumes that we're amateurs but never makes us feel like stupid amateurs.
The shirt? The shirt needs to go. Throw it in the garbage and buy another one. You've had that thing since at least 1981.
Thanks for that man! Really nice video
"... and that's all there is too it." It is a practiced hand that makes it look so.
"Ok, that's hot" Just keep going like a boss. Loving the videos!
Great master. Thanks a lot.
