George you prayed for me when I was sick. Now that I have become cancer free, I guess it is my time to return the favor. I commit to pray for you. Now all you have to do is to get well.
    God bless you my brother.

Thank you both for your voice of sanity in this mad, bad world. I will be praying for both your families at this trying time. Ireland certainly has taken a walk on the dark side; with the imprisonment of an honest, hardworking teacher and now the recognition of the Palestinian state, as a reward for the evil efforts of murderous terrorists. May God’s love surround you, From Sheffield, England's.

Jill Duff situation is tragic, she (being a woman) has no Anglican lifeboats for her as none of the conservative Anglican groups outside CofE recognise women Bishops. It was rather convenient for the CofE liberals to have her being sent into temptation to commit such foolishness. Pray for her as she could be feeling very isolated, I’m surprised nobody warned her…are conservatives in the CofE not fellowshipping and supporting each another?

    Dear Brothers.
Again thanks for your work - much appreciated
I've never commented on Anglican Unscripted for years and here I do it twice in a couple of weeks
Just a little more info on Jill Duff our Suffragan.
1 She is an honanary Bishop in Wales as she lives there with her husband and children - which makes it harder to say no
2 She and Bishop Philip North (Diocesan) are targets for the blob becasue of their views
3 If you remember a few years ago Bishop Julian Henderson (the previous Bishop of Blackburn) was, what felt like, being "stitched up" to do liturgy for transgender afirmation of faith - there seems to be a history of our diocese being stitched up

Since we are mentioning bishops, I thought I might quote Bishop Ryle saying, referring to the 1830s, that two C of E ministers "were much more Evangelical then, than they afterwards were when they became bishops". I just thought I'd throw in that bit of irrelevance.

  • @davidmorrison2739

It's interesting that Sydney Diocese has been ordaining women as deacons since 1989- 35 years ago- but the chance of women being ordained as priests seems as far off as ever. It indeed seems less likely than it was 25 years ago. The wedge with the thin edge is thus far longer than some would have predicted.

It is so sad to see Jill Duff behave in this way. It must be horrible for all the conservatives in the diocese of Blackburn, very painful.

Todd Atkinson visited the UMD a couple/few times, and gave a sermon and a teaching talk, but that was the extent of his involvement at the lay level. To describe him as assisting bishop is not in line with what that title usually means. Then later, the interim bishop while Stewart Ruch was on leave was John Miller (for much longer than he had expected, and kudos to him for all he did that was above & beyond what he was initially told). Then Martyn Minns was the "supervisory" bishop for the first six months after +Ruch returned to his duties. Wonderful, pastoral man of God. Edit to clarify that my last phrase is in regards to +Minns.

@anetzband1383 I think the idea was more that Atkinson and Via Apostolica would learn from UMD/Ruch. It was thought a good fit for that because of the common outlooks of Catholic faith and order, as well as the appreciation for the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church. Needless to say, Atkinson was not forthcoming about his past and ongoing "spiritual fathering" of younger women in his parish/diocese, to +Ruch or anyone else in the UMD.

Back in the 1990s there was a priest in the Anglican Church of Canada who was firm dissenter about what was going on in that church body and in Anglicanism generally. He would expose bad behavior and doctrinal squishiness under the pseudonym of "Anglican Web Elf", probably because of a lack of a First Amendment in Canada, but I thought at that time that he just wanted to be cute about his identity.

Fr. Conger, I'm not sure on what basis you describe the Atkinson case as the worst scandal the ACNA has had. At some point comparisons are of no practical relevance, but I'd suggest the Ronald Jackson case was a worse scandal, i.e., more harmful in real, spiritual terms.

It's important to be precise about the reasons for Enoch Burke's continued imprisonment. It is not as simple as him refusing to use the child's preferred pronouns.
Mr Burke refused to go along with the policy of Wilson's Hospital School, that pupils who believe themselves to be transgender should be addressed by their preferred pronouns. His disagreement was loudly expressed and very public. He did not recognise the disciplinary procedures that the school implemented because of his refusal. Crucially, he continued to attend the school as if he was there for work, even though the school had not allocated work for him and, using the discipinary procedures, he was under suspension pending the outcome of those procedures. The result of those procedures was his dismissal from the school..
He is in prison because he has continually refused to abide by a high court injunction not to attend the school and to purge his contempt of court.
Anyone who is interested in this case, would do well to read the Wikipedia article on "Burke family (Castlebar)". I know people who have encountered the family; and from what I can tell, that article is pretty accurate.

Thanks for that reminder of the issues involved in a convoluted and embarrassing case.
Enoch and his family are fundamentalist believers in Protestant doctrine [and in Biology] and this position was admired and supported by thinking people such as Voltaire until recently.
Then the Irish lawyers and school teachers got involved and there was money to be made and careers to be advanced.
I am RC but have always been amazed and humbled at the 'Broad Church' concept of Anglicanism and the tolerance that this requires.
      * I noticed that Mr Burke's Bishop in Westmeath-Diocese of Meath & Kildare-rushed to put on her anorak and exit the Synod,
I am not sure what lessons will be learned at this ancient Protestant school [1761].

wikipedia censors all opinions that don’t conform to the left wing, which is obvious to any well informed person that lived through an event and then goes to check its wikipedia page. check out the “talk” tab on any controversial topic to see the deleted facts that don’t fit the far-left narrative, and note that pages are locked so that wikipedia betrays its own principles and keeps one side on top.

Do faithful Anglicans believe that apostolic succession is passed on objectively, regardless of faith or other concerns? I’m not sure from an EO position that this woman (a victim here of liberal religious abuse, I believe - I don’t condemn her honest desire to serve) is actually a deacon. One could lay hands on a faithful pet; that does not a clergyman make. (I’m not comparing a faithful handmaiden of God to an animal, of course. But one must be eligible for ordination. In the EOC, women are eligible to be many & great things, including the bearer of the Divine Word, but not clergy.)

With regard to 'bishop' Jill Duff of Lancaster; are you gentlemen aware of the inconsistencies in the way you read, and treat, those ancient documents designated "scripture"? In the Pauline and Pastoral Epistles (contrary to the way Jesus of Nazareth treated women, in the Gospels) women have little place in the structure of the Church: certainly not as 'bishop'. Yet your only objection to Jill Duff does not stem from rigid and literal adherence to scripture; but because she dared to consecrate a homosexual man, as bishop. What happened to your view of the position of women in the church, 'career-cleric' hierarchy 'per se'?
