I’ve recently developed anxiety and it gets pretty bad sometimes, especially at night. I’ve had several nights where I found it impossible to sleep due to anxiety and I sat and thought about bob ross. Thanks to this channel keeping his memories alive, I can actually rest at night as they keep me calm enough to fall asleep without issue. I thank you so much for this. It truly is therapeutic.

I also suffered from anxiety for a while, and watching these videos helped me too. There's something inexplicable about the sound of his voice and the compassion of his manner that is just so calming.

Thumbs up for Bob Ross - World's First ASMR-Tist --- I saw that Bob knew a majority of his fans watched for relaxation rather than to learn painting... and he was just fine with that!
Most of his fans back in the day actually watched to learn painting.
+Nick Kapa I don't think that's true. In the documentary, and on the show, people associated with the show were aware that most viewers watched him *not* painting (or learning to paint) at all.
@Nick Kapa - Not true. Most people watched just to relax, enjoy his soothing voice, and watch a master painter.
Actually it was Bill Alexander who taught Bob . Even the brush beater and phrases were copied from Bill. Check out Alexander Art videos.

This is the ultimate stress reliever. This is the only way I'm going to make it through this situation (Covid-19). What did we do to deserve this kind of man? Rest in peace Bob Ross. You will live on forever within the hearts of the millions who have been affected by you.
15 years ago, I was battling a terrible addiction. I was at the very beginning of what would be a month long withdrawal from prescription medications. I was at an all time low physically and mentally, and NOTHING would allow me to sleep. Restless legs, body aches, anxiety and depression kept me in a constant zombie-like state every night. One night at around 4am, I turned on the tv to find Bob and The Joy of Painting on, and with his soft and gentle voice and positive affirmations, I drifted off. His voice, the sounds of true brushes against the canvas, it all was wonderful and so very relaxing. I can honestly say that Bob Ross was a key element in helping me climb out of one of the deepest, darkest times in my life. I've often wished I could thank him personally. I still listen to him every night as I power off for sleep. If any of you out there haven't tried this, and are dealing with insomnia, I highly recommend it. You'll be drooling on your pillow case before he's even done putting the clouds in 🤣.
With Bob, it was the whole package together that made him so special. The wonderful paintings, the soft and gentle timber of his voice, his true to the core positive attitude towards his viewers and life in general. A very special man that indirectly pulled
my life out of complete nose dive!

I feel depressed on multiple occasions and sometimes I just see Bob Ross at night not to paint but to calm myself enough so I can peacefully fall asleep.
I have watched him for many years. He was quite amazing as a person and as an artist he was excellent, he easily teaches his techniques to the inexperienced inquiring minds. He is missed by many. Rest peacefully Mr. Ross.

How the hell does he do this in like 30 minutes? Amazing
Veloniq wet on wet technique allows you to blend colours on the canvas and paint over spots completely with a different colour. It allows for paintings to be done quickly. It takes about 2 days to dry.
Oil painting is fun and with some practice you can paint like this too!
He painted each painting 3 times. One before the episode, one during filming, and one about a week after the episode off memory. Source - the documentary his family was involved in
...and it's usually like 25 mins...absurdly amazing... 😳🤔🥴
He can do em even faster, but there was a point where he was going too fast, and had to pad out the last few minutes with sticks and twigs and small details with the scrip liner. Although even then, those small details can really go a long way to further sell your painting.

I started to watch Bob when he first came on TV. I took up painting and got pretty good at it!! Been away from it for awhile but getting ready to start again. I was thrilled to find his shows on You tube!! Sure miss him!!!

or a top notch wilderness guide, or hunter or surveyor. When you spend a lot of time in wild lands you learn to see the natural world clearly...you see how often nature fools the eye. That's what Bob *does* with his painting technique- he fools your eyes with "indications" of natural things...it's genius!

I was lucky enough to have a few wilderness teachers/mentors that were similar. They taught me to see the natural world clearly.
Nobody does better with painting than Bob Ross, he's the best painter of all time.
