    Great info! thanks!! One question - do you have to also pay "Honorarios Fiduciarios"? We paid it when we bought our Mexico property last year but now I'm not sure how to pay it for subsequent years.

    Good info thanks. Do you know how the gov calculates property taxes? Im curious as to total yearly costs of owning a single family house in Mexico. I am on a fixed income , so I am cost focused. I was in La Paz two years ago fir about a month and really liked it. Thanks

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  2 года назад +1

      I'm not sure how they calculate it, but it seems like everyone I've met is paying around $500 / year. And it's discounted if you pay in November / December.

      I believe so. And my property taxes down here are about 10% of what I pay in the US.

    Here in BC, Canada we pay approximately $5,000.00 and it keeps going up, but services keep dropping.

      Yeah - that's about what we pay in Portland. And I know what you're saying about services...

    One question can I avoid paying property taxes legally in mexico yes or no

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  Год назад

      I think if you own property, you must pay property tax. However, the property taxes in Mexico are 10% or less of what they are in the US.

      Did you choose the correct Rural vs Urban? I think that may change the number length. That's the only thing that comes to mind.

    Great! After waiting to pay in person at the Municipal building on Tuesday I was thinking; "Hey, Brighton needs to do a video on this process". Voila! I was able to pay in person with my US credit card. Do I need to have a credit/debit card with a Mexican bank to pay online?

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  3 года назад +2

      Hah! Almost perfect timing. That should be my theme "almost..." Almost retired. Almost perfect day. Almost the best margarita ever...
      As to the credit card, I should have tried a US card, but I just assumed I'd need a Mexican bank card so I went directly to that. Maybe next year ;-)

      @@AlmostRetiredinMexico Hello I just paid my La Paz property taxes for the very first time just now and I used a US credit card with no issues. They only allowed me to pay the first six months of 2024, is that normal or do you have the ability to pay the entire year at one time? Gracias!

    • @mindmachinemedia
      @mindmachinemedia Год назад +1

      I’ve read threads on Facebook that say the 6 number we see is a reference to six two month periods equaling 12 months. So you paid for the entire year (2024).

      I'm sorry, I don't know. I heard from someone that they could use a foreign card when they went into the office to pay their bill. But I used a Mexican card to pay online. I'm working on a video with Blanca Corral. I think of her as a "fixer." She helps foreigners navigate things like banking, healthcare, insurance... She may be able to help find a solution. blancacorral@hotmail.com.

    That’s easy enough. I was hoping for hours of standing in 3 different lines at a government office!

    • @AlmostRetiredinMexico
      @AlmostRetiredinMexico  3 года назад +1

      If you really want the lines, you can probably still pay downtown on the final day the taxes are due! ;-)
      I've heard of other people waiting in line, getting their tax bill, going to a bank to pay the bill (it's common to not be able to pay directly to government offices - you pay into the government account at a local bank) then taking the bank receipt back to the government office, waiting in line and then getting a tax receipt. Crazy!

      I know! The good news is that taxes online are pretty easy. Dealing with people in person is much harder - but there are folks here that will help with everything for those of us who are "language challenged." Hasta luego
