#1 would be arguable for me. I couldn't get into the writing style. But #2 and #3 I absolutely agree with. Just finished the Faithful and the Fallen series after hearing it recommended here. And I just loved it. I also really love Hobb and find both series similar so it's understandable why I enjoyed it so much. Definitely going to recommend FatF to everyone now.
Thank you
Yayyy. Malazan is by far my favourite series. Love to see it.
First Law, Stormlight, and Dresden Files are also great!
Thanks for having me on brotha! So much fun.
Of course, thank you for joining in!
Awesome as a reader and a viewer of most of these channels to hear favorites. It is a solidifying set of voices that lets me know my favorites are also valued. I also get to add to my TBR, which will forever be an endless stream of books, but nonetheless I am excited to hear your thoughts on favorites.

Thank you so much for the compilation!
Good god, thank you! 😁 I plan to start with The Faithful and the Fallen because it’s the smallest of the top choices that I haven’t read yet 😂
Cheers for doings thus ❤
So happy I got to be a part of this Matt! Thank you for inviting me!
Thanks so much for participating!
Holy moly, Matt. That's a LOT of booktubers! It's an honor to participate in this collaboration. Thank you! :)
Thank you Petrik!
Make a decision man! Mentioning six series, but only those that are completed, and only those 'as of 2022' is a very conditional and pretty uninteresting, low risk answer. Everyone has multiple favorite series they find it hard to rank, but most others in the video were able to give an interesting reason as to why one stands out. Anyway no hard feelings, It's just your response stood out here. I'd never heard of your channel and may check it out.
So, If I didn't screw up, it goes like this (and I'm counting all the votes casted by Petrik):
Malazan - 6 votes
First Law - 5 votes
Realm od the Elderings - 5 votes
Lord of the Rings - 4 votes
Stormlight Archive - 4 votes
Faithful and the Fallen / Banished Land - 4 votes
Discworld - 3 votes
And then there were a lot of series with 2 or 1 votes. I'm really surprised that none voted for the Kingkiller Chronicle.
Thanks for compiling that!
wow!!!
I was wondering about this - thanks for keeping track!
noooo, wheel of time isn't up there. That just isn't right.
@@Bt-cq6te It's a BIG series though! I think that scares a LOT of people away from it!
And unlike some other series that get big, it's not broken down in smaller trilogies or quartets, at least from what I know about it, I haven't started reading The Wheel of Time, though I DID buy a bunch of the books a few years ago!
Thanks so much for having us on! Awesome seeing all of these brilliant booktubers gushing about their favourite books!
Thank you both for joining in!
Thanks for having me, Matt! I loved the variety of channels and series represented. Fantasy is such an inspiring genre, and there's a series for every reader!
Thanks for joining, and yeah I love the variety that was able to come together for this!
There is someting very inspiring about watching people talk about books they love with passion. I will never get tired of this :)
Agreed, I loved watching the clips as they were being sent to me!
Thank you for inviting me to participate in this massive project, Matt, and congratulations on putting it together -- excellent job!
Thanks so much Philip!
Can't wait to see phillip have zero shame, and say the way of edan is his favorite!
@@seanhalpin87 Ha ha ha!
@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy had to say it. I knew that malazan was your favorite, but had to make the joke. One week til release daaaaayyyy

Me: taking notes
Also me: *shouldn’t start new series until I finish the ones I’m currently reading*
Yeah you just described my entire existence.
Same here
Thank you for inviting me on!!This is an incredibly impressive collaboration! I don't know how you managed to organise something this large!
A big spreadsheet and a lot of pestering people!
Sorry Ben. Beat ya to Discworld
I love these types of videos, they really show just how beautifully diverse this genre is, there's something to love for any kind of reader!! And it's just wonderful to see so many of my favourite people in the community all together in one video. Thanks so much for assembling this, I loved it!
Thanks for the kind words!
What an amazing video! Thank you so so much for inviting me! I guess I'll need to finally pick up Malazan...
Yes, definitely check it out!
Thanks so much for the invite Matt!!! Such an amazing cast in this short film that it needs to be submitted to Sundance. Lol. Thanks again man.
LOL, thanks!
I like how when you get to mine the audio immediately jumps out as amateurish and the video is hella out of focus. I would have it no other way. In fact I will create it no other way.
We wouldn't want you to Brian!
I am BAFFLED that no one definitively chose Mistborn! I also figured Kingkiller would get a mention too. So many great series mentioned here, and I'm excited to read those mentioned that I've yet to get to!
Loved this so much - loved all the different perspectives! So wonderful
Thanks for inviting me to be part of this! So great to see the favorite series from so many awesome booktubers!
Of course, it was a lot of fun to put together!
This is amazing Matt! Thank you so much for including me and thank you for putting all the work into this epic collaboration!
Thank you for joining in the video!
Glad to see you all here in one place, I hope all of you and your loved ones are in good health
Interesting to hear everyone's thoughts. I'm a fan of almost every series listed. Shout out to those who said R Scott Bakker's The Second Apocalypse. I grew up reading The Wheel of Time starting in the early 90s to 2013s A Memory of Light. It has too much sentimental value for me to ever be dislodged as the best but The Second Apocalypse is sure close
I'm looking forward to reading Bakker's books later this year!
Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this! 50 booktubers must have been a lot to organise! 😍
lol yes it was!
Thank you for inviting me to this collaboration, Matt! As others have said, this is such an impressive list of amazing booktubers!
Thanks for participating Grace!
Bookborn,
We are halfway through The Way of Kings. I'm hooked for sure!
About a year and a half ago, we stopped watching tv at night before bed and started reading books together outloud, oftentimes, in our hot tub.
It's a great way to chill and connect 😊
Thanks for having me, Matt. Loved to see the variety of series featured here.
Of course, thanks for helping out with the video!
Awesome video, thanks so much for doing the hard work of compiling this, and thank you to all of the creators to take time to share their favorite series! Such a great idea👍
Thank you Colin!
Thank you Matt for doing this epic rec list collab...and as someone who is relatively behind in the genre I am happy to add so many many books to my TBR!
Glad it could help!
Thank you for inviting me to take part in this incredible video! So many awesome recommendations for me to add to my TBR!
Thanks for helping out the video!
I think this might possibly be the biggest fantasy collab in booktube till date ! Thanks for this Matt.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm glad to see all these recommendations. I'm always on the look out for another great fantasy series. I guess I am in the minority when it comes to "The First Law" trilogy. I finished them, but I really didn't enjoy much at all about them. I don't understand all the praise, but different strokes for different folks. I will definitely be giving some of these others a try! My favorite series has to be R. A. Salvatore's Drizzt series in the forgotten realms. I think the characters are very well written and the fight choreography is some of the best I have read.
What a brilliant video. As I've just gotten into reading in general, and fantasy being my favourite genre. It helps me to try some different types of fantasy books! Thank you Matt and book tubers 😄
Awesome, I hope you found some good ones here!
You know what's cool? It's fun to listen to people talk passionately about their favourite books even if they aren't series i am not particularly fond of.
Yeah it's my favorite part of these videos!
Wow what an undertaking and awesome final result! Thanks for inviting me to contribute, and it was great fun seeing everyone’s picks!
Thanks for participating!
Wow. Over 50 booktubers! Well done on putting this together (and thank you to all the participants). It felt like I was watching all the latest videos from my favourite booktubers all in one go lol.
Thanks so much!
Thanks so much for this! It's so great to be able to hear so many opinions because at the end of the day we cannot read everything so we need to help each other out
Hi Matt,
I loved how you were able to band together so many fantasy lovers for this so-called collaboration.
One person mentioned name of Greg Keyes in his comment (also comes from that country where I live), but I think Keyes is very rarely mentioned in these best fantasy series videos, but it is worth it. Especially his "Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone" series. Not say it is my favorite of favoritest, but it has some good elements.
Why do I think this series is special?
I think the series has a very strong concepcition in depecting what kind of scams lie behind our myths and beliefs.
He also turns the elf-like tropes out, here the other race does not yearn for wandering to "Happy Island", but recreate, moreover revideal and redefine themselves.
His nature is also fresh in fantasy: here, behind the humanoid races and the various groupings, creatures which come from the magic of the world and the forces behind the visible world, there is also an another ancient elemental force, power, which is not essentially mythical, but almost like a natural cycle, that resurfaces from time to time, like the various great extinctions of Earth - this is no longer the final march of Treebeard and the Ents, but a far more vengeful, ruthless, truly subhuman reality.
And I think this is a fresh, new approach to nature in fantasy. Here, it is not a companion, not an interplay of elemental forces, a system where mage can draw from, not a servant and a slave, but in some ways an enemy.
I think purpose of Keyes was not grimdark, and his characters are not burned-out, dramatical, suffering heroes from their dark, tragic past, but they are also not two-dimensionals, black and white hero types. Keyes approached the chevalier novels from a different angle compared to Martin. He seeks, that those kind of persons who believes in classical values how react when their world, which based on false foundation is shaken, and how their beliefes will be changed, because this faith is based on that foundation.
Most of times says that Martin's saga is like Druon's "The Cursed Kings" series, but from my point of view, Keyes's novels are more similar.
So, I think this is a very good series.
Greetins,
Daniel from Hungary
Thanks Daniel - I'll have to check that one out!
Great collaboration!! Awesome picks!
I plan to make a fantasy comic book if i can, and i really needed a few inspirations because holy moly its so hard to make a fantasy world from scratch. Especially by myself. I will try to find all of the top rated recommendations in my native language :) thank you for the video!
This was such a great video, Matt! Thanks for inviting me to participate in this awesome collaboration!
Of course! Thanks for helping out!
This was such a great compilation. Thanks for putting this together!

Keep doing these Matt! They bring book tube together and we get to see so many different great books! :)
Thank you!
Been binging your videos over the last couple weeks and had finally started to run out so this came at the perfect time! Keep up the high-effort content and keep being authentic to your own tastes, we all appreciate it.
Thank so much, that's super kind of you!
Very cool video idea I’ve read a lot of fantasy and I got introduced to some new series!
Thank Tyler!
Thanks for doing this, it was very interesting! I will say, I was kind of surprised at how often the big series were said, but it’s good that some were telling about some lesser known ones as well haha.
Yeah - and in the end, those big series are usually big for a reason!
Thanks for putting this together Matt. I pretty much subscribed to every person who collaborated with you, if only to ogle at their bookshelves. My biggest take home was definitely to move Malazan up higher on my TBR but I also loved hearing about a few series I've never seen mentioned before. Appreciate everyone's time and effort.
Yeah definitely move up Malazan!
Thanks Matt, for including me in this stellar line-up with lots of great recommendations!
Of course, thank you for joining in!
This was fantastic - thanks for including me! Honored to be in a video with so many of these great people.
Plus I can now say I was in a video with Daniel Greene haha
Thanks for joining in!
Great video. Wouldve love to see Mike from Mikes book reviews on here but loved the entries.
Thanks so much for including me
Of course, thanks for joining!
What an incredible video Matt! My TBR just got ridiculously large...
You're welcome. And I'm sorry.
Matt you are maybe my fave booktuber! Every your video is joy to watch! Bright future is ahead of you!
Thank you so much - you are too kind!
This was really great Matt! Thanks for putting it together, and including me in it.
Of course, thanks for helping out!
Surprised I wasn’t the only giving Discworld the thumbs up and also how many people chose Faithful and the Fallen. Glad to be among so many Booktube luminaries. Thank you Matt!
Thanks for joining!
Wow what a giant line up of incredible booktubers ❤ thanks again for having me and I'm glad it seems I'm not the only person who pick there favourite "today" series 😂😂

This was amazing, Matt! And everyone! Thanks y’all!
I really love a lot of fantasy series and my favorite changes all the time… but at times I can be completely honest with myself… my answer is always “The Wandering Inn”
It's so, so, so good!
Epic mash up!! Thanks for making this video :)
Jacqueline Carey series of books around Kushiel is one I think people should read. It’s not your typical fantasy series but it’s got a very interesting premise from the start.
The first Kushiel trilogy is in my top 5 series of all time
@@danielleholmberg270 I only read the first (picked it up at my local library) many years ago but the fact I still remember it and recommend it shows how deep an impact it made. It is criminal that the female writers are not acknowledge as they should be. I would place the first Kushiel book up against authors like Feist, Gemmell and Hobb. I didn’t read any more because I was reliant upon my library having them there when I went in and I hate reading books out of order.
Absolutely brilliant video, appreciate the effort in putting this together
Thanks Dave!
I literally only just heard of you a few days ago, and it’s from seeing the last huge collaboration.
How the fricc did I miss you all this time??
No sure, lol!
I was happy to see "His Dark Materials" mentioned at least once here, I read it when I was quite young, maybe 13 or 14, and it may be for younger audiences, but never has a book made me feel so hollow as I did back then when I ran out of pages.
You really went all out reaching to every fantasy booktuber imaginable! And, considering how hard it is to choose just one series, everybody did great. Many great choices. Just grateful I don’t have to choose myself.
Thank you!
So many people said Malazan and Storm Light Archive... I need to do some shopping!
Jay didn’t pick the Kingkiller Chronicle? Shocker
Yeah that was the big surprise for me as well!
He has a top ten list and I dont think either First Law or Kingkiller is at the top. Very close top spot clearly.
Maybe because it’s not a complete series.
I don't think you got nearly enough booktubers, Matt, there are so many more! (I'm sorry I'm a contrarian at heart and saw all these great comments I totally agree with, thanks!)
LOL
Bryce, your clip was EPIC. :)
Dope list..here’s mine
#1. Wheel of time (far in the lead for me)
#2.Stormlight Archive
#3. The first law
A great undiscovered sci-fi fantasy writer is Saje Williams who has written over ten plus books and my favorite book he wrote is Tales from the Magitech Lounge.
Great here that there is so much variety in what was chosen- not everyone choosing the same series
Yeah I love the variety!
I'm impressed by the depth here. If you are too, a book on a similar note comes recommended. "Moonlit Shadows" by Olivia Whitestone
I think I'm going to have to put this video in a playlist on it's own so I can find it! There's a LOT of books, as well as channels, for me to dive into in the future.
Enjoy!
I love these videos Matt! Thank you!
You are most welcome!
This is awesome! thank you so much for letting me be in this video! it feels great to be in a video filled with amazing booktubers!
Thanks so much for participating!
Matt, great video as always. I do have one gripe though. I have three favorite booktubers…it’s you, Durfee and the only one that was missing from this video Alex from ‘Tall Guy Reads’. I am hoping that he was invited but for some reason was unavailable. The three of you almost perfectly match my reading tastes and I count on you for new recommendations.
It would be great if someday you guys could get together and talk about your favorites. Thanks again Matt.
I wanted him but he said he didn't have enough time to get me a video.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews I was hoping it would be something like that. Hopefully some day you guys will be able to collaborate. He’s turned me on to some great stuff and because of you I tore through Malazan and am now working my way through the Wandering Inn. I really appreciate you and your channel.
@@thomashajek7544 he actually participated in my previous version of this video that was about favorite book of all time. Check my profile for that video!
This has been beautiful! So many eloquent, passionate people with awesome taste!
My personal choice then would be The Fantasy Series, by All Fantasy Authors :)
LOL - I love it!
I just found this corner of youtube looking for people talking about the wandering inn, since I paused reading and following as the story was written when pirateaba was halfway through the 7th volume online. Now the story has ran away from me and is milions of words longer lol. I'm looking into rereading the whole thing from the start because I can't even remember where I stopped. The story with the most breadth I’ve ever read, and easily my favourite series of all time. To me, it's special because it depicts what feels like very human and microcosmic stories together in a fantastical epic. Sad it’s not here.
It’s fascinating watching people talking about so many different books. I mainly read webnovels because I can’t afford to buy books. Glad there are people who share their love of stories in the written word online.
Wow great video! I found so many new to me fantasy booktubers!
Wonderful!
I'm LOVING these crossovers!!!
Thanks Jeanette!

The ultimate recommendation video! Thank you for asking me to be a part of this :)
Of course, thanks for joining!
Not only does this video feature so many diverse, awesome people talking about diverse, awesome books - but one persons favourite series might be another readers least, but that’s what’s great about the community - everyone’s opinion matters:)
Yeah fully agreed!
Thank you for inviting me. This is an awesome video!
Thanks for joining!
So happy that the Malazan series seems to finally get the recognition it deserves.
Hear hear!
My favorite is one your probably haven't heard of, but should definitely check out: the Ryiria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan. I especially recommend the audiobooks narrated by the extremely talented Tim Gerard Reynolds. The series was fully written before the first book was published, allowing for a very well told story with some of my favorite characters ever written. It skillfully balances darkness and light to tell a fun but believable story. Worth checking out!
I actually listened to all of these on audiobook from Tim Gerard Reynolds. I really liked Revelations, but my interest in the series waned with future series.
Thanks for your hard work, Matt. You produce some of the best Booktube content yet.
Thanks so much Eric!
Great video!
And new recommendations for me :)
Thank you!
My favorite Fantasy Series are: Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, and The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind.
Cool you had all of them on and that they dropped in to add comments. Seems like a great corner of RUclips.
Thanks for including me, this video is epic!
Thanks so much!
What a great video, thanks Matt. Hats off to @bookswithzara and @blacknbluecollarreader for picking R. Scott Bakker's amazing Second Apocalypse series, so amazing and criminally unknown. I am almost done with it and wonder of you have read it Matt? I only recently discovered your channel (which rules) but I couldn’t find any videos of yours on Bakker despite the fact you seem to have read everything.
I'm reading next month!
Amazing video, Matt! Thanks
Thank you!
I'm so happy to see how much you've grown and the fact that you are now a big part of the BookTube community.
Keep up the great work Matt!!
Thank so much, that's super kind of you!
28:52 I can't help but think "This guy likes Star Wars and Star Trek". Not sure what gives me that thought, it's just a feeling I get! ;)
I'm sitting at my computer feeling slightly envious of that collection of Trek and Wars books!
LOL
You guys need to check out Jack Vance….Lyonesse trilogy and Dying Earth series. I know they are old but they are true classics. Also Michael Moorcock Dancers at the end of time trilogy…only book I have laughed out loud to….genius.
Moorcock is weird but his books are fantastic in general. Elric of Melniboné is the best tragic character I have read.
