During World War 2 the former Soviet Union lost 100,000 aircraft, 83,000 tanks, 1,000 ships and 27 million people. They considered that a fair price to pay for defeating Hitler. This situation really is a wake-up call for Western allies that are dependent on the US military industrial complex. If the US government can be influenced by Russian assets, it clearly demonstrates a need to decouple from US specific weapons systems. Collaboration between “other” nations in the development of weapons systems and manufacturing would seem to be the direction now. We can’t allow ourselves to be controlled by hostile US politicians…especially those that are not even elected.

The economies that make it up have all been steadily getting worse. None of those same things are true for Russia. Its economy has grown significantly, it's industrial capacity has skyrocketed. It is replacing weapons with ease and at a faster pase than all of NATO combined. And it is strengthening it's alliances with some of the most powerful nations on earth. It also has 100 million more people than Ukraine, all while taking significantly smaller losses on the battlefield.

I am convinced by assertions of retired American military and intelligence officers like Douglas McGregor and Scott Ritter, who state this war was entirely unnecessary and could have been avoided by more prudent U.S. foreign policy for the past ten years. I also question the assertion that Putin plans to invade all of Eastern Europe, which the same retired officers assert is wildly unrealistic fear-mongering to justify more U.S. tax money being invested in a losing war effort.

If Russia attacks a NATO nation to fulfill historic land acquisition, the USA is bound by NATO treaty to treat it as a direct attack on the USA. If that happens, I think the US will be giving up human American lives, not just money. And we will be dearly wishing we gave more weapons to Ukraine to ket them do the dirty work. I think we are paying less than 1% of taxes while nearly every Ukrainian knows another Ukrainian who died.
