Salamander/Lifeforce on PC Engine was my number 2 favorite PC Engine Shooter HuCard game ever that I had enjoy and playing a lot on my Turbografx-16 Mini after I play the Famicom Port.
thx to nintendos shady business practices we missed out on lots of great games for TG16 here in the states. Now I had Lifeforce for NES and it was awesome but thats beside the point
Great run on a PC Engine version of Salamander. As stated before, because of Nintendo's deathgrip on software developers, especially Konami, the Turbo-Grafx 16 were denied great games that were accessible in Japan.
It is, by far. People who say it isn't never played the arcade version. Actual recovery checkpoints, stage 4 rank glitch fixed, attract mode, arguably better music, score extends and fluid animation.
Actually it's about the same difficulty. NES Life force made the level design cheaper, while salamander Turbografx/PC engine retains the fair arcade level design with alterations to make bosses easier. As you don't respawn in the same place upon death the difficulty is about equal.
Wow I have not seen this since the arcade days me and a friend had back in 1986. I loved it but when the local arcade got rid of it I never saw it again. Great memories brought back. I remember a review on a game very similar in a C64 magazine and they described the Boss at the end of the level as - The end of level gaurdian is said to be quite nasty! always laughed at that description as games were meant to be very hard as thats how they got there money from you. Ex-more credit to continue.lol
HIDDEN FEATURE: to shoot Bullets, Ripple, or Laser (whatever) with Missiles at the same time, First, start the game, when the game begins, press SELECT, now you can fire your main weapon & missiles with a single button ^_^
?? I'm using real hardware and this doesn't seem to work. Select button just switches between one and two player mode. Not that its a big deal to just hold both fire buttons down though :)
also, is like one of those Gradius-style go back to your last checkpoint (for 1 player), except when you use 2 players, it gives the feature to spawn on the place where you left off

This should have been released over here. The best space shooter ever made and my favorite game.
better than Life Force ( NES Version )
Can I be honest this is better than the arcade version.
Really, how come?
@@DanielAyy all recoverable checkpoints, extra lives by score, fixed hitboxes and balanced difficulty of bosses
Its not

Agree, except for the music.
sensational the songs of this game !!! those who made the songs deserve all the honors !!! The game is very good !!
I love the music in this one. If only they had a 30-life code, since it's harder than the NES version.

Cool shooter!!!
I need to get a pc engine this year!!!!
This Music is great!
I wonder if the PC Engine synth chips sound a bit like Konami SCC sounds?
It is a bit more primitive, because the waveform is just 32 byte long instead of 128 bytes like SCC, but the exact same wavetable principle.
Cause they're both WSGs, except PC Engine sound chip also has stereo panning and PCM playback capabilities.
@Bastiest I know , but this for 2012 that is one of my goals.
Getting a pc engine & a neo geo . Only goals for 2012 ,lol.
Cool videos!!!

15:18 the super advanced base's security system throws floor tiles at you
It's clearly a TAS...
Like most videos in this channel, but that's specified in the channel's "About Us" tab.
Well Done!!

Such a fun game but I’ve never been able to beat it!
Edit: I still hate the seizure robot in Level 2 though.
I love this game. Expert mode is rough
Expert mode is tons of fun though!
Great! No miss clear.
I really want to play Salamander so badly
Gradius? I remember this as Life Force.
Salamandar is japanese title.
@@ambient8872 *Salamander is the _original_ title. Fixed.
"Life Force" is nothing more than a stupid localization.
the power up system is different from NES version
the nes version is a port of the arcade version of lifeforce, which uses the power up system from gradius, but salamander have instant power up
It´s not that hard. It´s just memorizing the sequences. Rayxamber II was a hell lot harder, I.E.
x68とかより全然いいw
pcエンジン…恐ろしい子!((((;゜Д゜)))
이건 많이 했던 게임이지
I hate this version of salamander.
y?
