Damn Irvin are you training to be a mechanic? Just realized this vids 2 years old but been watching your vids and progress and this was one of the most legit easy to follow straight to the point while adding your sense of humor in there.
Late to the party but I wanted to say Thank you sooo much for this informative video. I saved tremendous time and agony by following this video alongside the factory service manual. Cheers and keep it up!

If know how or know a friend that knows how to change the timing belt then it would’ve been a lot cheaper but it’s cheaper to let the shop do it than for me to buy all the tools to get the job done or to make mistakes along the way and mess up the engine then it would cost me more to replace the whole engine
I put the car in 4th gear and tightened the e brake pretty hard. Works if you have a manual but automatics need a special tool for holding it. amzn.to/2LpXqEy
Thanks man I appreciate it! All the gaskets I used are toyota gaskets from the dealer except the water pump which is an aisin pump(also purchased from toyota) and gaskets for the pump came with it.
Great video man, really appreciate it! Question, what gap do you use on your plugs and what would happen if I used the "dot" instead of the "line" to time my car?
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it! If you got factory plugs they should be pre gapped to spec for a stock engine (about 1.1mm or .043in) Make sure you have the right timing marks, not having it timed right could make the car not run and you run the risk of bending valves.
@@tonymolina2523 if it's just set to the wrong marks like 3 or 4 teeth away I wouldn't think so but it's possible. I mean you'll know once you set the timing right!
@@mateuszkrol3784 mine is a manual so I was able to get away with putting it in gear with the parking brake on. For autos you're going to need a tool to hold the crank pulley while you tighten it. The link for it is in the descrtiption
Just had the timing belt serviced. Purchased a timing belt kit which included the tensioners, water pump, serpentine drive belt, gates racing timing belt, etc. The mechanic completed the job and the car now makes a tapping sound. Mechanic says that maybe something is rubbing with the timing belt cover but it doesn’t make sense. I’ve seen a few videos out there that have experienced the same issue but there is no answer. By any chance would you happen to have an idea of what the issue could be? Much appreciated. The mechanic will be taking the cover apart and see if it noise goes away. I’ll post an update once that happens.

If you're going that far in (including the valve cover gaskets) you may as well get some cams (and a cam gear) and lash your valves too. Seriously, there is no better time to do this. OH yeah, and your front main seal. literally just do these together, you'll thank me later
how did you keep it in timing when you were getting the crank bolt loose? You were moving the cam gears and all that shit while loosening the bolt. Did you have to turn it back or something before taking the bolt out?

Need me one of those clear coolant flush funnels. So much more satisfying than the yellow one I have lol.
I've had the yellow one for years when all the new guys at my shop started getting the clear ones. I got a bit jealous 😂😂
Amazing work brotha!!
Thanks man! 🤘🏼
Thanks for the step by step, but this might take me two to three days to do.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
What size/part number were the small o rings you used that wasn't included in the water pump kit? 8:59 for reference
They aren't part of the kit, part number is in the description they're the water outlet o rings
@@RotaryDaddy thank you so much
Great video keep up the good work and the keep the vids cooming!
Thanks bro 🤘
Thank you for this nice video. Just wondering what your various torque specs were, especially for crankshaft bolt and cam bolts?
I just paid $700 for the shop to do this timing belt job. I bought the GATES timing belt kit for $380
Not a bad price! I just have this mental inability to let anyone else work on my cars lol

Im fairly certain that little trick to remove the belt is how my water pump started leaking after I took it to wheel works for my valve gaskets

But did it leak?!
