This was very helpful. I've seen far worse written instructions than the ones this rack came with, but these are not great. Your video saved me a lot fo time. Thanks.
I had the same question as a previous poster. This video is incredibly detailed up until the point I was looking for which is HOW to reverse the front bracket. On mine it seems to hit the curve in the rail in a weird way and not sit flat. It works but looks weird and doesn't seem like the "feet" inside the rail hit the right way.
So I just went out to my garage and recorded a video of flipping the driver's side rack around. It sounds like you already got it done and working but I'll post it anyway as soon as I have it edited. (will be quick and ugly) But the end result is that the racks do fit but the are not exactly lined up front to back. There is a slight offset but it does fit.
How’s it going, thanks for the video. Question: My tires are pretty fat on my mountain bike, does the surface where the wheels sit seem to be pretty universal (Wide/Large) or does it have a limited spacing? Thanks in advance.
They are fairly wide. I use it for an old school BMX bike and it sits pretty deep in there. I think it is wide enough to cradle the tires. The straps on the wheels and the arm holding the frame are very secure so it should hold well. It is supposed to handle a mountain bike pretty easily.
Thinking about possibly putting a wind deflector on it this summer. I haven't looked around recently but I think Amazon had some. Rhino Rack Wind Fairing, 38-Inch/965mm www.amazon.com/dp/B00E5TI74S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_v45WCbTETR5YM maybe
Thanks for the video! I just ordered the roof rack and 2 bike holders as you have. I was wondering how you reversed the bike holder to accommodate the driver's side? Did you remove the upright tube? Or just slide the entire assembly on reversed? Thanks
Take the ends off and the tire holders slide off. Then you can turn them around the right way. The frame holder and lock mechanism has bolts at the bottom holding it to the rail. Take those off and you can turn it around. I probably should've covered that in the video.
@@MessyGarageBMW .. I received my roof rack today.. Installed in 10 minutes!! Thanks again... However, I do want to mention that the rack I received has a new lockdown mechanism for attaching the ends to the vehicle.. No longer need the tool.. It hand tightens, and has a handle lock. Tool free removal too.
Thanks. The bike carrier is the BMW Touring Cycle and Mountain Bike Holder - part# 82712166924 on the BMW Roof rails - part# 82712361814. For my setup you will need to buy one part# 82712361814 (it comes as a set of roof rails) and 2 part# 82712166924 as the bike holders actually come individually. "A Lot" is relative. It does cause a whistle and I was thinking of trying to find a wind deflector to put on it to cut down on it. I'll put it this way. I just had to go on a business meeting and took the expressway for about 3 hours and removed the rack before I left to cut down on the whistle and have a quiet ride. It isn't bad but is noticeable and I image it would be more so at 90.... um... I mean 70 MPH (gotta stay at the speed limit :) )

Amazing vid! I'm installing mine once the weather warms up
Thanks! I got a 24 Haro and a 26 Fiola Dirt Jumper I need to haul around on my 435i! May do this too!
Thanks so much for all your hard work in putting together this video I just successfully installed one for myself. 👍🏾
I appreciate hearing that. Sometime you wonder if it is helping with me doing these and I'm glad it is.
Your video saved me a lot of time, thank you.
Very informative. Great information and made for a very very easy install without reading the instructions!
Badass BMX bike!
Thanks, That is my OG 1989 Haro Master bashguard. Original Superpros, bars, 401 flights. :)

Hi,I'm joe from japan.
I like your movies👍
Thanks Joe, I appreciate that. I've got more coming :)

Me again.. Lol..
Have you found a way to reduce or eliminate the howling wind noise?

Thanks for the useful video.
Just a question, the tools used to mount the bars were all included in the pack?
Yes, the tool was included with the bars to mount.

@@Anthony8858 That is awesome. I'll have to check out the new rack with that tool less feature. That would be way more convenient.
@@MessyGarageBMW I coudn't figure out how to get out the frame holder bolts - some pics of that process would be highly appreciated...
How about that Rolex!
😁
Will that bike rack fit e90s roof bars?
Looks like it should. I have an e90 too and it looks identical to the f30 roof system

How much does this whole set up cost?
I found mine new on ebay. It is cheaper that way. You can find them online for about $250 USD for the base rack plus $115 USD each for the bike racks.
