The trail "Barranco Juan Lopez" leads to the sea .(It is regarded as being very challenging) . He is somewhere along that trail imho.

I think he was badly hungover or drunk, possibly worse for wear with substances, hadn't really slept for a couple of days and was anxious to get back to where he was staying and go to bed. I would not trust Spanish police to thoroughly question the two men before letting them go , I find it really odd that these two men in their 30s/40s drive a young lad , off his nut on drink and drugs , all that way , for what ???? they sound like predators and he was certainly in a hurry to leave , he could have gone back into the apartment and asked for a lift , to charge his phone , for water , he really didnt want to go back in regardless of how desperate his situation was. Nor did he want to walk on the main road , perhaps to avoid them seeing him . Talking to locals on a visit there a few years ago the police are corrupt / easily bribed to look the other way. They certainly arent working hard to get on top of the drug dealing because of course they rely on party tourism.

@@Mike75575 Good Ockham´s razor. if his life would has been threat by the two men he would said something to the woman. Really mysterious is why he left party with two middle-aged men at 6am, ... but his behaviour in Masca I think it is typical for a 19 yo boy. we've all been that age and thought we were unbeateble. I would like to think he was kidnapped because that means he is alive... but.... unfortunately I think he is dead.
If he walked North and up into the hills from the bus stop, its probably because he maybe forgot that traffic was on the other side of the road from the UK, and walked the direction of which he thought the bus went, and took a short cut abd got into trouble.

A couple years ago , a married couple from California, their baby daughter and their dog never returned from a hike in The Sierra Nevada Mountains.Texts and calls from family & friends went unanswered. The worst was expected. The family was found deceased, alongside them their dog lay lifeless as well. As their bodies were recovered, the nearby stream tested positive for toxic algae bloom. Did they drink the water? That was the speculation at first. Later, the cause of their demise was determined to be extreme heat exposure and dehydration, and possible exposure.

Surely after the two guys were interviewed and were free to go home, the Spanish police have their contact details and will be in touch if and when necessary... this press conference is sounding like he is seeking people who are on the run!
I agree. He's on the mountain somewhere. I believe he got lost, like he himself said in his text, and,unfortunately, succumbed to the elements/dehydration. I just hope they find him so his family can get closure, and get him home.

"law enforcement" would have to accuse her of something before they asked to see her phone , she is not a suspect . If both mobiles were British and thus roaming it would be very difficult to find out if a call took place any other way

@Kevhuman I don't think those 2 guys did anything to him. I think he was badly hungover or drunk, possibly worse for wear with substances, hadn't really slept for a couple of days and was anxious to get back to where he was staying and go to bed. I think he thought he was much closer than he actually was and just made some bad decisions, ending up lost and succumbing to the elements/dehydration. I think it's as simple as that. People love to sensationalize things. He wouldn't be the first person to get lost and perish there.

There is an expression spiked by a cactus and is has different meanings, one of which is tired and exhausted. Google meaning of spiked like a cactus. I don’t think he meant it literally, I think he was using it as the expression of being exhausted. There are multiple meanings for “Spiked like a Cactus”
He may have been alluding to his drink got spiked? (maybe at the party?).
I would not trust Spanish police to thoroughly question the two men before letting them go , I find it really odd that these two men in their 30s/40s drive a young lad , off his nut on drink and drugs , all that way , for what ???? they sound like predators and he was certainly in a hurry to leave , he could have gone back into the apartment and asked for a lift , to charge his phone , for water , he really didnt want to go back in regardless of how desperate his situation was. Nor did he want to walk on the main road , perhaps to avoid them seeing him . Talking to locals on a visit there a few years ago the police are corrupt / easily bribed to look the other way. They certainly arent working hard to get on top of the drug dealing because of course they rely on party tourism.
