  • In this video I'll show you how to create a stunning abstract acrylic painting that can be small enough to fit into any home. Using acrylic inks and a few tools, you can mace a gorgeous piece of unique artwork.
    The inks I used were Daler Rowney Indigo and Liquitex Burnt Sienna, Iridescent Bright Gold, Carbon Black and Titanium White.

    The lovely acrylic inks I used here are Liquitex Titanium White, Carbon Black, Transparent Burnt Sienna and Iridescent Bright Gold.
    In addition, I used some ordinary titanium white acrylic paint, a black chisel tip Sharpie waterproof pen, old plastic gift cards and a Catalyst mini silicon spatula size 04.

    So happy I stumbled upon your channel! There haven’t been enough videos of abstract painting with acrylic inks, in my opinion. This has definitely inspired me to give your technique a try.
    …Also, I couldn’t agree more that Liquitex transparent burnt sienna is such a beautiful color! I use it more than any other.

    I never use paint brushes. They just don’t work for me. This is wonderful and I love using an 8X8. Thank you so much

      Thank you for your kind feedback, Beth, it's very much appreciated ☺️. I do like brushes but find they can 'tighten' up my work, whereas knives and liquids are much looser.

    I loved that you used a small canvas. It isn't so intimidating when it is smaller. Flow enhancer? Where's my dictionary? I love the text at the beginning adding necessary information. Is the water in the bottle still or gas, distilled or tap? Thank you for another wonderful video!

    • @helenworthington1826
      @helenworthington1826  11 месяцев назад

      I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😁. Yes, I think starting small is good to build your confidence, until you feel comfortable with something larger.
      I use still tap water in my water bottle, but if I need to dilute an ink - especially a metallic colour - I use distilled water.
      Flow enhancer is a fluid that you can use neat, or mixed with water, to keep acrylics moving better.
      Have fun if you decide to try a small one 😉!

      Hello 👋. I actually used both for this painting. The white acrylic ink runs beautifully, whereas the paint stays in place better. Hope that helps, but if not just let me know 😊

    Liquitex transparent burnt sienna is, hands-down, my favorite acrylic ink. I don’t know what it is, exactly, but it is a beautiful vibrant yet neutral color with the perfect transparency, strong tinting strength and yet not overwhelming. I never let myself run out!

    I would like to know which matte varnish has been successful for you on abstract painting. Also on textured abstract paintings.

    • @helenworthington1826
      @helenworthington1826  Год назад

      Hi Deborah. My preferred matt varnish is Pebeo Matt Picture Varnish for Acrylic Colours. It's a 200ml spray and it goes well on any surface. They do it in Satin and Gloss too, I think. Hope that helps 😃

    Hi Helen. First time here. LOVE this abstract canvas. Did I understand correctly, is it possible to make one's own acrylic inks? Any chance of knowing how? Thanks, Helen. Feeling nostalgic hearing your voice...I worked in Preston and Lancaster for a spell.

    • @helenworthington1826
      @helenworthington1826  Год назад

      Hi there 👋! Thanks so much for watching and listening to my Lancashire accent, lol! 😅 Hope the nostalgia is a good thing for you?!
      I'm not sure we can make our own acrylic ink as such, but you can certainly add water - and also a fluid called 'Flow Enhancer', which I'll cover in a vid soon - to make tube paints flow much more loosely.
      If you use a lot of water, there's a risk that the paint will crack on a canvas, but because we're using layers of paints, I haven't encountered any problem like that. Sealing a painting with a spray of acrylic varnish also helps stabilise the paints.
      I hope that's helpful - please shout if you think of anything else.
      Many thanks again for your support 😀

    I am new to alcohol inks & thought you always needed alcohol! Good to know I can use water.

    • @helenworthington1826
      @helenworthington1826  Год назад +1

      Hi Linda, thank you for watching and for your question. I do sometimes use alcohol inks for glasswork, but these inks are actually acrylic rather than alcohol.
      You definitely need alcohol to work with alcohol inks, not water. But acrylic ink is like a very runny type of acrylic paint, so some water is ok
      I hope this clears it up for you? Please don't hesitate if you need to ask anything else. Many thanks, Helen 😊

    What a lovely painting, I must dig out my inks and have a go. You're so right about the weather - I'm in Scotland and I'm wondering what the winter is going to be like, it's been so cold and dark here lately! Did you gesso that board before starting, it looks a nice smooth surface? Thanks for sharing this, I enjoyed watching your process. All the best from (not so) bonnie Scotland 😊
