  • "Space needs to be made for us homeless people. A place that we know we can go to and know that we won't have to worry about waking up and our stuff being taken when we're not there."
"To the Aboriginal community, you've let me down. You've done nothing for me."
"All I want is for people to acknowledge me and to sit down and fucking listen to me, man."
"My mother gave me the love that I needed. But my father, he just didn't know how to control his alcohol."

Somebody posted a lovely comment to this video yesterday (Boxing Day) and I barely had time to scan through it before it mysteriously disappeared. If you can send it through again, please do.
Meantime, here's a reply based on what I remember!
Thank you for your comment on the interview. I was truly taken aback when I learned the full story of who it was I'd happened upon. This artist has won awards for creating truly beautiful art. His story (like many) is heart-breaking.
Your observation about homeless people not wanting to be "a burden" is spot on. It's a common theme in these interviews when people are asked whether they have friends and/or family who can help them. They need help and support but are often reluctant to impose. (Where the frig is our government?!)
Thank you again for your comment. I've no idea why it vanished! Please feel free to send it through again.

I've been around a lot of people from broady and this bloke is 100% from broady. It's a shame that a lot of people from broady ended up on drugs and in jail from back in the day. I wish Ray the best and if I see him around the city, I'll have a chat to him and help him out.

This Ray fella used to go out with this woman I know. It’s sad to see him on the streets now.

Not everyone. Many homeless people have drug problems but it is important to recognize that many people are on the streets for other reasons, domestic violence being one of them.

Hi Dave. Thanks for your comment. I do, indeed, reply to questions and issues, sometimes at length. I’m in the process of surveying the comment sections so that all is covered. Thank you again. - Jim S

I would have thought that electing a labor government would have ended this homeless problem.

Throwing money at it and giving jobs to political mates doesn't work with complex social issues

All of those so called pretend gangsters I’m calling you all out punks in Melbourne, if you are willing to rob banks and steal money, can you at least give it to those in the street that need it and want it, keep some from yourself but instead of the cops and corrupt politicians keeping the leftovers for themselves can you give it away to those that will use it in a better light. Give back to those that you feel in your hearts that are worthy of having some of your criminal money for the lifestyle you guys risk everyday trying to brag about. Just help those in need don’t take care of the corrupt governments and those higher ups, they have plenty and are selfish but true cowards that can’t get a real job but want to police everybody.
