The biggest sin of the Christmas special was to make an episode about Christmas and the earth and again Roxy had no participation and was totally forgotten. Roxy deserves very nice things
FACTS! During the whole episode I was like wait- why is Bloom going home & not also Roxy to see her parents?!
Or they could have had Roxy and her family celebrate another winter holiday(or just Christmas differently than Bloom's family does), and so when the Winx try to throw a party for both Earth-raised fairies, they mix the two together, plus add in elements of their own cultures' holidays and create a confusing mess.
Wait a minute I didn’t even think about that until now you mention it. So where was Roxy this entire time and why wasn’t she included in the Christmas party? Better yet why didn’t she go home with bloom to visit her parents? Did the writers forget her storyline and development heavily focus on planet call earth. At least in season four during her introduction and possible furthermore down the line if they only continue with consistency within their writing and story direction.
Not to mention Lovix is practically perfect for a Christmas episode adding more that it should have been in Season 4. Also love how they forgot to add Flora’s line at 28:43 😂

Hear me out for the Tecna and Aisha conflict: Tecna believes that while Aisha and Nex are growing closer, that she’s forgetting Nabu, but Aisha believes she’s overstepping and not one to talk because Tecna herself has been neglecting Timmy.
Or maybe Aisha thinks she knows the seas of Zenith as well as she knows the seas or Andros and Tecna feels offended because of that because that's Tecna's planet, not Aisha's. So they fight because Tecna doesn't respect Aisha's pov and Aisha doesn't understand that Tecna would have a natural link to Zenith once she's from there.

Idk man the Trix thinking Christmas Magic was an actual, tangible magic power is kind of logical. It was a wasted opportunity for them not to somehow lead that gag into the Trix obtaining Dark Sirenix though. Would've been funny to whiplash us like that.

Okay, now I want a scene in S1-S3 where the Winx are like "Where is Ms. Faragonda?" and it cuts to Faragonda flying a sleigh dressed up as Santa Claus.
"Who's been delivering Christmas presents? It was Faragonda all along!"

It should have been Bloom and Aisha that turned against each other. Bloom worried about pursuing Sirenix due to the curse and Daphne while Aisha is headstrong about getting it in order to save her family.
And then Tecna (the one who struggles the most with her emotions) empathizing with both of them and freeing them from the curse. But no Bloom has to be the hero with generic glitter powers 👎
Edit: just imagine Tecna reminding Aisha how she gave her life to save Andros in season 3 so she more than anyone knows the sacrifice it takes to save a realm. This literally writes itself so much it HURTS!
Techna and Aisha would be SUCH a power teamup (if the writers weren't dogwater). Out of all the winx, they're the ones with hyperfocus on-demand and always stay level-headed under pressure.
Speaking of delving into Tir na nOg's lore and culture, I really wanted to see them ride kelpies. They're an island nation with very little land. So, a predator, water, fairy horse would be very useful.
I'd imagine Nebula going up to Roxy and being like "Oh by the way, as the princess of Tir na nOg, you were supposed to choose your own kelpie on your (X) birthday. Do you want it now?" And then Roxy gets all excited because horse, and Bloom gets all excited because fairy horse, and then when they actually see them, Bloom is freaked out because predator, black, creepy, monster horses, and Roxy just gets more excited because Earth fairies are chaotic tricksters by nature and kelpies are cool. After that, she bonds with one and now has a man eating water horsey that she can summon to her location and ride into water and land battles.
A kelpie would be a good mirror to Bloom's love of unicorns. Y'know, Bloom and Roxy are similar and like sisters but still very different people. I just wanna see Roxy riding a kelpie.
The Christmas episode would be perfect for season 4 because earth and lovix but the whole "let's discover our friend's adoptive planet holidays and fun festivities" because she misses it would be more logical in season 1 when Magix was still new for her, and her world new for them. That would be a bit like Tecna discovering how to use a broom during the detention episode, they would learn from the others. Also Icy not knowing more about earth would also make sense, and being a bit younger the whole "I don't understand Christmas magic" wouldn't be that stupid.
Your commentary about how badly the writers wrote Stella in S5 and on is on point. I've been a Stella stan since Day 1, and I hate how wrong they did my girl in the Nick era
I liked Stella being snarky, a daddy’s princess, yet was still a good person. But by season 5, episode 9… Old Stella please come back.. 😭
Interesting how the only quest Tecna goes on is on her own planet, she bonds with her selkie and gets the gem; supposedly proving its quality.

'We get Bloom alone and then we take her Christmas magic' - this line sounds like it was trying to call back to when the Trix stole her powers in season one with the Crystals, I wonder if they woulda used the Crystals to take her Christmas magic from her, I actually woulda loved to have seen that lol.
It was painful seeing them in that class and even ignore Roxy of all things, so sad. So we're just gonna ignore all the development in the first 3 seasons and pretend they are students again, huh? In Season 4 they are teaching assistants and then get demoted to students, ugh..
Alfea, that place is literally its own world, with soo many new things every season. I just saw Season 7 and just learned about the reserve/garden thing with the animals and it is soo crazy, just a lazy excuse to come up with new places. Honestly, Alfea is the equivalent to the enigma of The Simpson house, we'll see things during certain seasons/times, then disappear after a while and have new rooms and things pop up, it's crazy.

You know what is the worst part about these episodes? This marks the beginning of how Stella gets treated from now on. No longer a badass, no longer an icon, just an airhead that only cares about fashion. Way to go Rainbow, you ruined her
Stella gets one episode later on this season where she actually resembles her former self to some degree, but that's basically her last hurrah. And that sadly doesn't make up for how awful she is for the rest of season 5 onwards.
Even worse, she's so fashion-focused, but unlike previous seasons, her sense of style all but disappeared. Mostly for gags and the like, but even a good chunk of outfits the Winx gave a pass to were godawful. Can't wait until we get to the stupid carrot dress.
Really does feel that the Winx regressed in more ways than just their age and general maturity. Timmy and Tecna allegedly never go out on real dates (SEASON 4 WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A WORD), Bloom's literally crying when she doesn't get exactly what she wants, and Stella's objectively a worse fashion designer than she was when she was *actually* 16/17.
You should 100% do a Christmas episode rewrite! Even if it doesn't happen this year, it's a great idea!

I personally find it kind of funny that Stella lists random color palettes before just giving up and going "yellow...?"
I think it would be an interesting idea if Mike and Vanessa started fostering those kids. They adopted Bloom, after all, and maybe they wanted to keep helping the community on Earth. I guess kinda like the Believix mission. And they talk about Bloom, and how she has saved Earth and the magical universe several times. I think that would make a good dynamic.
Just like in "Secret of the Ruby Reef" the next episode "The Gem of Empathy" the quest of finding the Gem of Empathy still never made sense in the first place at all, I mean what does playing the harp in the Musa's homeworld of Melody have to do with Tecna's homeworld of Zenith beside listening to the beautiful music from the harp.

Great as always! Here are my thoughts for the episodes
General:
The jokes in this episode were ON POINT! I kept laughing the whole way through. You got a few new clips and they are serving you to PERFECTION.
The gym of empathy:
1 I've said this before and I'll say it again. Brandon's voice actor in the nick dub is so good at capturing in some moments where he has to show Stella some tough love.
2 I can't believe just how much they do not understand these characters. Case in point, when Techna was trying to point and shoot at the gem of empathy. If it wasn't for the fact that this was a TV show and things had to be done for the sake of the plot, she would have immediately changed her tactics upon realizing that that wouldn't work. Additionally, she would have NEVER got into a fight with Aisha over it spell or no spell. If anything, I think it would have been better if this spell protecting the gem made them hurl more personal insults at each other so that them getting mad and succumbing to the effects of the spell would make more sense.
The Christmas episode:
1 Hot take but this is actually still one of my favorite episodes
2 this is basically the quote. Bloom is fantastic and important!" episode as one reminded of her quote on quote mission every few minutes as it cuts back to those random kids in Gardenia.
3 I know Thomas already covered this but how have the Trix become so dumb fifth I think Christmas magic is a real type of magic. More importantly however, (I know this was already covered too) how is it that the Trix are constantly defeated by the Winx All the time yet are able to create a dome strong enough to trap all of them. It also makes me think of the scene in season 6? Where the teachers put up there" most powerful defensive spells" and they are shattered moments later.
4 once again doing Techna dirty. We've seen that magical technology is way more advanced than Earth, so I don't he why several of the misconceptions that take place do several of these Don't even make sense as I will discuss below.
5 why did they think the gingerbread house needed to be the size of a literal house they know about the lack of magic on Earth and common sense says that the amount of time and ingredients it would take for the humans to make them would make it not worth it . They would need a preservation spell if they actually intended to use it and or eat it before it went bad .
6 why on earth did they strip the" Christmas tree " of all it's branches. Firstly Christmas is one of the most prolific earth holidays. Even if it's not common, knowledge in the magic dimension I'm sure there would still be a book or if you articles on it somewhere. As such, I'm pretty sure there would be a picture of a Christmas tree. Secondly, trees look pretty with their leaves on by default. And lastly, I'm surprised that Flora even let them do it
7 this would be very difficult to hide. In fact, I think the girls might have wanted to tell Miss Farragonda. With that said, why wouldn't Miss Farragonda help them whatsoever when we clearly see she has accurate knowledge of Christmas at the end of the episode.
8 If Miss Farragonda could open a portal to Earth that easily (and pinpointed to Bloom's house no less) why has she never invited Mike or Vanessa for a tour/ parent teacher conference ? As far as I know, unlike other series such as Harry Potter where the magic has to be a secret, they actually want people of Earth to know of magic as of season 4 at least. On top of this, even if they didn't want to introduce them fully to it, it's again, not like Harry Potter where a magic being being born to non magical parents is a common occurrence. In fact, there are only three examples of this in the whole series in Bloom, Roxy and Selena. Bloom and Roxy were actually fairies All along and the only reason Selena knows magic is because she was taught by a fairy godmother.

I feel like the Christmas episode would be a better time to explore tecna's whole "I struggle with emotions" plot they were trying, it would also be a really good time to learn more about how musa deals with her mom's death
Where musa is trying to give bloom a decent Christmas, finding a way to get bloom to earth, while she reminisces about the holidays she spent with her mother as a child. On the other hand tecna thinks it's an absolute waste of time, because they should be focused on getting rid of the dragons, or finding the next gem

I really don't get how the winx didn't hear about christmas from bloom until season 5.
A decent setup for a Christmas episode would be the Winx + Roxy (Fight me!) are planning a Christmas Party and they each split up to get different things ready for the party and the antics that ensue. Heck, even a Secret Santa angle could have been fun with each Winx having to figure out what the person whose name they would want without resorting to stereotypes.
Honestly I love Christmas so much that this filler episode is so fun I love it it’s always been one of my favs
I don't get how those kids, Mike and Vanessa were able to enter Alfea, like... wasn't there a barrier prohibiting anyone without magic from entering in season 1? 😂Did something in the plot change that I just don't remember? XD

The reason the show quality dropped is because The Winx needs the money to pay off their Student Loan Debt and all the collateral damage they caused with their battles

Seasons 1-4 don't matter: Mike, Vanessa, and presumably non-magical Earth children are allowed on Alfea grounds. Despite the literal second episode of season 1 explicitly showed that non-magical beings are not permitted anywhere near Alfea (and presumably Magix) due to the barrier that filters out all non-magical beings.
I know some barriers were broken in the earlier seasons but I don't recall that particular barrier being one of them. Plus, they should have long since been reestablished.
Was it Bullshit Christmas Magic that allowed this?
I have seen nothing of this season except this video but the empathy plot really should have gone to Stella in that episode. Tecna had her "how to feelings" arc ages ago and Stella is the one giving no regards to other people.
The episode could have been way better if they had switched the A and B plots. Let Stella go for the Gem of Empathy with more organic conflicts and maybe some character development when she realises what a bitch she became, and show us how Tecna was like when she was three years old for some interesting character depth/introspection.

Instead of the Winx trying to show Bloom a good Christmas time, they should have had Bloom trying to make all of these things to show the Winx the magic of Christmas. Instead of everyone catering to Bloom, let her cater to her friends, but all of her art craftings fail because of the Trix, and the Winx come together to fight them off and put things right with Bloom. Bloom and the audience realized that they don't need all those fancy trappings for a good Christmas, just each other.
Either this slightly better version, or we could go the Hallowinx version where the Winx travels to Earth to visit her family, Roxy gets to see her mom, they revisit the Earth fairies, but then Bloom and Roxy forget that it's Christmas. They spent their time showing their friends what this special holiday is about. Why not throw in an old man that they'l encounter who will later turned out to be Santa...or is he?
i wish they had added a christmas episode in season 2 ( considering that season was very character driven and they already had a halloween episode) and/or season 4 ( considering they were on earth and since the other winx haven"t heard of it im assuming they do nt have x-mas on magix,so it would have made sence then)
side note,i also think it''s cool that icy can make an ice dragon, like the oppisite to blooms dragon fire thing.

she's definitely more generally mature that season, but the reason i didn't put season 4 is because of the whole brandon saving mitzi thing where she gets jealous and doesn't even let brandon explain anything after mitzi kisses him on the cheek [ i'm not saying it's unfair for her to be mad, but she didn't even let him explain the situation ]
and then calls him jealous the episode right after that one where the winx "hang out" with guys.
also, brandon kept trying to have a conversation about what happened and she kept refusing for some reason? and then she just forgave him out of nowhere? like, no conversation = no character growth imo [ although, im going off of memory, i just don't remember them ever bringing it up after that, it was basically just useless drama that dragged on for like 3-4 episodes ]
it just doesn't really.. make sense? i mean, these two literally made a competition out of flirting with other people. this wasn't that big of an issue, but considering how much stella's character went downhill from season 5 onwards, that part was really the beginning of the end, for me at least

Also, in the comics there was an underground room with lots of magical dresses, Bloom uses one of those in the comics to go to the season 1 ball instead of making the dress herself.

I had a few classes in high school and college where students from multiple different grades attended together. So being in a class with Freshman is pretty normal.

Like Bloom is a lil art nerd, Flora is obviously plant mama but she cooks, Aisha is sporty and dances, Musa is obviously a musician and Tecna is obviously tech and gaming. Like couldn’t Stella have had a REAL hobby, a “plan b” career if you will. Like photography, or ballet, or acting SOMETHING! But a fashion designer reeeeally?! It started the digression for her character

ok but hear me out, I was thinking about rewriting this episode, what if instead of the Winx having no clue what Christmas is because that makes no sense, Bloom 1000% would have explained Christmas to her friends. So like, what if the episode was about Bloom trying to teach her bio parents what Christmas was and just trying to enjoy Christmas with her whole family. Also like, make those kids her cousins? because, these random ass kids that just know who Bloom is and being excited for her to show up makes no sense, but like, if Bloom was the oldest in her adoptive family and those kids were her cousins it would just make more sense.
also hear me out, instead of it being an episode in the season, imagine if this was a 45 minute special! not only would that give more time for the actual Christmas stuff, and then a fight wouldn't kill the vibe, plus if it's 45 minutes it could be a disconnected episode not truly part of any season (which would work even better if the Winx could use past transformations)
another idea is, keeping the concept of Bloom can't go home for the holidays so the Winx and Specialist try their best to recreate Christmas for her, but like, they know what Christmas is because she's told them, so it's not a disaster and it's more, wholesome and heartwarming, maybe the reason Bloom can't leave isn't a specific threat but just, because there's so much going on Bloom's worried about what might happen if she leaves and her friends are trying to calm her nerves and convince her to just go to Earth for the holidays only deciding afterwards to host a little group Christmas. like imagine a 45 minute special taking place kinda separate from the rest of the series, Bloom is stressed out and mentions that Christmas is coming up but she doesn't think she can go and her friends can't convince her to go home because, maybe she's worried she'll try to run again, like she's self aware of how often she does that and doesn't want to. so her friends wanting to help her chill decide if Bloom won't go home for Christmas they'll bring it to her using what they all remember her saying about it or what they've experienced because she dragged them along to Christmas in the past, you know all the Winx celebrated Christmas with her once. throughout the episode the Winx and Specialist are trying to be subtle about their plan, but while Bloom isn't book smart she's not stupid and starts to suspect something. meanwhile everyone realizes one MAJOR missing part of their Christmas plan, family. they know that family is a big part of that because it's something Bloom again would 100% would have talked about, so they're all trying to figure out how to include Bloom's family in this, she's mentioned how she always plays with her younger cousins (because I still think those random ass kids should have been her cousins it makes more sense) and how that was always a highlight, and just, being with her whole family. this conundrum solution is revealed at the end. maybe we keep the Trix attacking but it's not for Christmas magic because that's stupid, idk maybe they're just fucking with everyone to be assholes, or maybe there's a completely different threat, how to work that in? idk. but the end of the special has the Winx showing their whole Christmas set up for Bloom which is like actually well put together and also has part of their own homes and cultures included, maybe some of the other worlds have similar holidays around the same time of year, I mean even here Christmas isn't the only winter holiday, maybe some worlds celebrate the solstice, and other stuff, so those traditions are added and do get talked about while setting everything up, and so Bloom's family can be involved, video feed! because I mean face time is kinda the best solution here. and then maybe a Christmas song plays and everyone has holiday fun.
ALSO Roxy helps out setting everything up pointing out some things Bloom might have not mentioned before, but like, she does go home for the holiday afterwards but is also on call with everyone because LET HER BE INVOLVED.
